Delighted to hear Ronny Deila is planning to rest players ahead of Tuesday’s Cup Final. There is plenty to be gained from playing the next wave of Callum McGregors at Inverness tomorrow, and little to be lost in the league race.
Our unique position in world football, a club who are so massively bigger than all others they are not involved in a proper competition to win the league, has more drawbacks than advantages, but we need to exploit this position by developing emerging talent when the stars align.
The morning after the day before the Slovakian media were very respectful of Celtic. There was an acceptance that their assessment of Celtic was based on two unrepresentative performances against Legia.
Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of Slovenian coverage was the appreciation of the “modern football” Celtic played. Assessments of Maribor’s chances in the return leg were pragmatic. Expectations are low, but with the tie level, they know they still have a chance. Hopes are, that Maribor’s misplaced optimism is viral, and that Celtic will be infected by the same disease.
Celtic’s job on Tuesday is to make sure they treat Maribor as though they were Bayern Munich.
Oh Malky. You and I both know that football is remarkably indifferent to moral uncertainty, the actions over the last 24 hours of the thoroughly reprehensible League Managers’ Assocation testify to that. Practically anything is forgiven or overlooked, but only up to a point. Malky MacKay has been implicated in attacks against Chinese, Koreans, black people, gays and Jews, quite a unique full house.
Cardiff City have already leveraged this to obtain a grovelling apology and have now cost him a seven figure contract, offered by his friend at Crystal Palace. Question is, after the controversy dies down and the obligatory contrition is served, will another club offer him a contract? I don’t think so.
As far as the football industry is concerned, Malky’s unforgivable sin is not racism, homophobia or anti-Semitism, these matters are often overlooked as ‘banter’, after all. He’ll not get another job because he blew millions on players who were useless to Cardiff.
That’s the only kind of offence football really tales notice of.

If UEFA want to insist that politics should be kept out of football they should practice what they preach :-)
100%

Tgbs,
I think you are confused about sleekit and duries request.
The Belarus game went ahead.
I’m pretty sure it was a game v us they asked for the postponement for.
Never mind the vacuum cleaners, I want a clean sweep of the trophies this year.
!!Bada Bing!!
I believe it’s the week before the election. Might be just the boost to the Yes vote that Salmond was hoping for!

Justafan,
UEFA have taken a political decision to give succour to a country that is in breach of numerous UN resolutions, yet have not invited the victims of those breaches into competitions, that for me is a major political statement and showing support for one side against the other.

Leftclicktic,
If it wasn’t for nonconformists pushing the boundaries, you wouldn’t have a vote
True but in the footballing world Celtics participation in and long term wellbeing comes before my right to deny them that going by set down rules.
If you love something enough (IMHO)you will find a compromise somewhere somehow.

See what you mean.
What happened before Israel got into UEFA?
Did they play african African or Asian auspices?
UEFA have constructed an empire of client states . Take their money and you conform to their dictates or else ..
As the owner of Napoli put it —–
” We have all become UEFA whores “.

Wasn’t the Scotland game switched to a Sunday so as not to clash with her funeral? I remember Farry getting pilloried in the press for not immediately postponing it. Funny that he never got such grief for obstructing cadete’s transfer.
You’re right about the Celtic- rangers game being postponed. That was rescheduled to November and big Stubbs equalised in injury time – a crucial goal in stopping the ten.
every tricolour flag flown in the stadium is a political statement. The same goes for the butcher’s apron. Anyone who suggests that it is simply an expression of our history and culture has been reading the OO media guide
Justafan,
Don’t think they even had a team
Justafan
Israel played under whatever federation was prepared to accept them. For instance they bizarrely competed against Australia and New Zealand in the Oceania federation for the 1990 World Cup qualification
Neil C…
Its OK, I’ve stopped being lazy and just looked it up lol.
I see they were expelled from the AFC under pressure from countries who refused to play against them, primarily Arab and Muslim nations and Israel were unaffiliated for a decade or so. Guess that was the result of politics too.
I’m assuming Lebenon weren’t invited into UEFA as they haven’t been expelled from their governing body?
tgbs…
Thanks for that!
anyway, we can agree to disagree on the politics side. The more significant issue for the support is that without the GB, the stadium atmosphere is akin to something in the Premiership eg Arsenal. All quiet, with the exception of a few collective chants of ‘Arsenaaaal’. Why is everyone so unexcitable nowadays?

Possibly mate. I’m not 100%
Ffs. Last post for Tgbs.
The Green Brigade do bring noise and colour to the park but unfortunately they have also brought fines and official warnings from U.E.F.A. which have brought disgrace to the club. I f they cannot give assurances to behave within the rules, then the Board are right to take action.
Twists n Turns
Good shout for Glen Moss.
Take an each way 16’s every day of the week.
Thanks
TnT,
Cheers mate – Glen Moss placed (3rd) at York !!!
not too shabby an e/w bet at 25/1 :-)

You’re welcome. I had 22/1 so not too shabby….
BJM
25/1? Not too bad chief!!
***No winners today***
On 13 August 2003, Henrik Larsson scored his 31st European goal for Celtic against MTK Hungaria in a Champions League final qualifier. This set a new record of European goals for by one player for the same team, a record previously held by Ian Rush (Liverpool) and Peter Lorimer (Leeds).
Better luck next time on the quiz that makes you say “I was always better at hitting penalties than quizzes anyway”
TnT,
Yeah – got 25/1 with Bet365 just after you posted, very happy :-)
Put two of my mates onto it too.
p.s. did you see the whisper I posted about dark ruler earlier?
Cheers,

GMS was nothing special against us last week. He is an extremely talented player but, in the modern game, that is not as useful as it once was. From a personal point of view, I always enjoy watching talent. I was, for instance, always a fan of Aiden McGeady and didn`t care if `there was no end product`. If James Forrest were to leave Celtic, I would not be disappointed if we bought GMS and allied his talent to our system.
JJ
I find myself heavily conflicted over the GB,love what the
bring to the match day experience, but any political stuff
on Tuesday and Uefa will hammer us.
Back in the day when I stood in the jungle,we in truth sung
some horrible sh#t,the GB would and should never go near.
In truth, I’m sitting on the fence over the boards treatment
of some of our fans, going have to get of it soon, my erse
is sore…….I’m I still a rebel or just a old compliant fart.
Got it at 20/1, thanks for the tip!
