Emilio back on form ahead of Camp Nou

693

Over the summer I could frequently be heard muttering, “We need a left back”.  Despite returning from injury at the turn of the year, Emilio Izaguirre was unable to command a regular starting place in the team.  His occasions starts provided evidence why.  With Charlie Mulgrew the most authoritative central defender in the squad the left back slot looked like our most vulnerable position.

Emilio’s early form this season was no better, especially in the Champions League qualifiers, but recent weeks has seen the player return to his very best.  His confidence seems to have returned as he is taking opponents on with purpose which had been missing for over a year.

On this form, we can look forward to seeing him test himself at the Camp Nou.

I believe greenjedi post above goes someway to debunking this story, however, this lot have form at tapping young players.

    Liam Miller comes to mind.

I am sure if there is any chance of this happening with Vic

then the Celtic board will be on guard this time around.

The question is, in the modern game, what if anything can be done to stop it ?

I watched the Sevco highlights and agree with Paul Mitchell ( who is he?). Stirling could easily have had two red cards and the ball from a Sevco effort MIGHT have been over the line. Also, Stirling MIGHT have scored another but for an incorrect off-side decision. Obviously, I have no time for a Sevco compliant media but they were wronged in this occasion.

  4. I see the unknown trumpet player got a favourable mention on the blog for his musicianship at the match yesterday. Agreed, let’s hope we hear more of the same. Reminds me of the type of thing you get at American college football on ESPN. More of the same please.

Watching el classico last night no doubt we are in for a busy time without the ball when we face mighty Barcelona in a couple of weeks time but we are no different to every other team that has faced them. We can do a Chelsea against and circle the wagons. They have a lot of small players and we now have a fair lot of tall guys in the team. The set-piece will be our best chance to score. Terrific spectacle at the Nou Camp last night – almost as good as Celtic Park on Champions League nights.

  6. Incidentally, the trumpeter and two of his mates were playing outside the ground AFTER the game as well (behind area 111, GB territory). Seemed to be really enjoying themselves. I hope they become a regular feature but not in 106 (where I sit)!

  10. Leftclick – if rfc players were improperly registered for rfc then were they ok to play for scotland, holland, germany, n ireland (sic) etc? anyone know?

  11. we are blessed to have so many good young players and a couple of good older heads. IMHO we have 2 players i would never question when it comes to ability, izzy and kayal, both are top class players and we are lucky to have them. the soon kayal is in the centre of the park the better

  12. Dear santa, please can i have the following fir christmas… A ftt verdict, an improperly registered player verdict with appropriate sanctions, a set of sevco accounts prior to share issue and the new celtic jersey.

Great to see the sparkle back in Emilio’s game. My wife who is a medic tells me that a broken ankle is an extremely complicated injury and hence the long recovery time. Like you let’s hope Scott Browne is not using medication to mask a serious hip problem which could effect his future football career.

  17. were is the missing celtic supporters ,sunday game not a couple of hundred ,more like 8 or 9 thousand not there, why is that, maybe its time for some new faces in the celtic boardroom, and other places, not coaches or playing staff,i think there is to many old faces in positions at celtic, who are not up to it anymore,

  18. I suggest anyone interested in the Rangers Tax Case and issues surrounding the FTT and dual contracts has a look at this.

    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/97/29/01/circularno.1171-professionalfootballplayercontractminimumrequirements.pdf

It will also end any arguments being put forward by the MSM on Image Rights.

This is an official FIFA mandate and therefore sits above national or continental rules, which in any case normally mirror this

I would urge all interested parties to read in particular sections 4 and 6.

A brief summary would be RFC are in serious breach, and Celtic have done nothing to fall foul of the regulations

In light of the news on Sudan and Zambia, Fifa are going to have to deal with a scandal greater than any they have faced before

David Murray and Rangers should be shortly facing a FIFA punishment beyond anything they have ever handed down previously

  19. if celtic are offered 10 million for waynama ,take it ,he is a good player, but at times he gives the ball away to easy. and what about the crowd on sunday, were are those missing thousands.i think its time for some new men or women to run celtic football club, terrible atmosphere as well. maybe its some of the music that gets played ,awful songs at times
