Employment tax and football

91

A thread to keep an eye on is the work of tax lawyer and journalist Dan Neidle.  In the linked article he posits that a criminal investigation may follow into the tax affairs of Roberto Mancini when he was Manchester City manager.

As well as his City contract, a company Mancini owned was paid for work in Abu Dhabi. This second contract was not subject to UK employment tax but was part of the Premier League investigation into the club.

When Oldco Rangers tax affairs were being analysed, I was firmly assured by a solicitor representing the SPL that no laws were broken, and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) took no interest in the case.

It will be fascinating to see how the matters differ.

I did at first then noticed another poster whom I ignore, just read it and justifies my stance!

  2. Just happened to have 2 pilots up the back who after the fight and the restraining of the aggressor controlled the aircrafts descent all within what time frame and the aircraft is barely damaged from the forces it would have been subjected to, James Bond couldn’t have done it better.

Glad all the innocents are safe. They must have all been strapped in when it happened.

TBB – very interesting quotes from Alex Ferguson. Especially – ‘Once you change the financial strength of one club, you don’t only change that club. You change where players go. You change what everybody else has to pay. You change which manager gets which footballer. You change title races before the first ball is kicked.’

That is what we and every other team in Scotland was up against, and why several nearly went to the wall. It wasn’t just about cheating, it destabilised everything, including the prospects of young Scottish kids who no one could afford to play, with clubs stretching their finances to bring in foreign players to compete with the internationals turning up in Govan. Arguably the food chain involving our home grown players has never recovered.

*and that’s the reason I point fingers at the rag and bone man as he caused it all in his attempt to win the Big Cup as well as TIAR, thankfully Henke and Harrald stopped the latter.

It was also him that pulled his club out of the reserve league stating it was a cost too far for too little and nothing to do with us heading for a reserve NIAR, aye alright you Ayrshire Pinocchio.

Who’s going to find the answers from them, do a couple of them D And Ph still have a case against the Police various reasons?

    ====

    To me both commited fraud.

There is proof they knew all about the DOS ebts yer never provided any documents relating to them in response to Harper Macleod letter.

There is an extract from that letter that is pretty clear.

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/0B6uWzxhblAt9M0RNNU00TDVETDQ/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=107947982974245186134&resourcekey=0-nNuOgJrIeg7VthaxppmZtw&rtpof=true&sd=true

Harper McLeod’s request did not confine itself to payments under the big tax case trust yet the DOS side letters of Aug and Nov 2000 and related HMRC corresondence were not provided to Harper MacLeod.

Had they been provided LNS could not have treated the DOS ebts as continous because by then an FTT on Aberdeen Assett Managemnt had found DOS ebts were unlawful.

    A big difference.

Readers do not have to anything other than come to terms with the poison SDM brought to Scottish football in 1999 when he opted to remunerate players using ebts.

    It will be very interesting.

It would seem the COPFS was very selective in who they chose to go after in relation to the downfall of the huns.

Hopefully they weren’t so obsessed with ‘malicious prosecutions’ that they let the real baddies get away scot-free.

40 quid IS a ridiculous price for those games.

cant see what the abuse is getting dished out for.

you can give reasons why there may not be much scope to make them cheaper (season tickets, what other clubs charge etc)

but it doesnt change the fact that paying 40 quid to watch a celtic v dundee united league game is ridiculous.

the scottish league is grossly over-priced and has been for a few decades.

  12. Bit disappointing that, as far as I can see, there are no Celtic players in the Scotland U21 squad, and none on the pitch against Azerbaijan in Kilmarnock last night. Though Danny Kelly formerly of this parish did come on as a second half sub. Tony Docherty’s side played some very good football it has to be said in the 5-2 victory.

Colby Donovan is still eligible, but has since made the full Scotland squad, not started as yet but two more games before he comes back to Celtic, so bit of game time wouldn’t go amiss.

never been a big fan of these speaker night gigs.

i get why folk go, just not my thing.

and i cant help think the acsom BR gig is going to be months of over-hyped pish, that delivers nothing out of the ordinary, so i wont be joining in the hype for it.

but will read CQN the next morning to find out how it went, and if there were any sensational revelations i will admit my wrong-ness!

  17. Glad I am not the only one who finds the ‘hijack’ all a bit iffy. A passenger who just happens to be trained in close combat, has a knife on him and can overpower a determined hijacker, and then some reserve pilots too. Also didn’t seem to be much panic on board. But then as a good Tim I am paranoid of course…

but he surely must have 1 headline lined up?

if not, and its just a night of mundane chit-chat, then it would have been a pointless exercise, unless thats what the paying audience wanted of course.

Now there’s the interesting point ……

Combining ‘Ticketing’ and ‘Stadium Operations’ revenue over the past 4 seasons reveals Celtic consistently generated between £2m and £2.1m per home game. Last season the latter was 44% of total revenue, up from roughly a third in the previous three when we had CL football.

Those who think they are being fleeced (whether tickets or merch) could always exercise their free-will and simply not buy and let the law of supply and demand work its magic.

The fact most general sale tickets quickly sell out for SPFL home games suggests many are willing to pay the going rate.

nobody is suggesting anyone is getting fleeced or conned or whatever else you want to call it (apart from the many faces of Kev J).

we get that the price of the ticket is known at time of purchase – and the ludicrous booking fee.

and that no one is forced to buy them.

but none of that negates that the ticket prices in scotland are ridiculous.

    they are.

this isnt buying your shopping from waitrose, deciding its too dear, so going elsewhere.

    this is your football team.

if the only strategy is seeing how high they can charge for tickets and still sell out is your marker for success then im not in that PLC bubble.

no oxygen masks isnt a thing in that situation i dont think.

they get deployed when the cabin pressure goes down, which it wouldnt have.

but the rest of the official story sounds nonsense, as we should expect from those criminals.
