Energising offensively

1455

I’ve spoken to many Celtic fans over the last couple of days but I’ve not met one who would have preferred Roy Keane to be our manager instead of Ronny Deila.  Despite some impeccable references, Ronny is a largely unknown character, but there is an appreciation among the support that we need to come up with a plan to enable the club to over-achieve in Europe.

The man’s performance at the media conference was faultless.  It’s not important to quick-witted but his use of words like “energise” and “offensive” is promising.  Football is in the entertainment business and Ronny appears to appreciate the link between the way his team perform, not just their results, and the ultimate satisfaction supporters’ leave the ground with.

Our thanks to the Greenock Celtic Supporters Club for hosting last night’s CQN Lions fundraiser for the Celtic FC Foundation.  We were fortunate to be entertained by Willie Wallace, John Hughes and Bertie Auld, it was a fantastic night, full of laughs.

Special thanks to those who attended and helped raise over £2000 for the Foundation, and to those who promised to get involved with the Foundation.  The club is in good hands with supporters like those in Greenock last night.  Big shout to Joe and Mick for bringing a familiar old friend along.

Can remember being in the Newmarket bar Bannockburn after Raith Rovers beat us in 1995 . A guy that ran the PMS bus from St Ninians a proper diehard said to me I don ‘t know where we go from here. The both of us were near to tears . The point being if somebody had said to me then we would be were we are today I would have laughed in there face . The board don’t get everything right in fact are wrong in a lot of things but these are good times and we should never forget just how bad things were before .

Great post. What you have given us is perspective. I was there too with my 12 year old daighter and 8 year old son. My mates were all there with me with their kids in tow as well. All we could tell our kids at that time were history stories of how great Celtic once were and we hoped rather than expected that those great times would return. They have. No one should complain about our situation nowadays.

    Forza Ronny Deila!

    Hail! Hail!

In my experience, the British are not blessed with great looks generally. Davie Dodds’ DNA continues to multiply. One of the many blessings of immigration is an increase in beauty.

    Well said.

Won’t go into details as to my exact wherabouts

on the day we lost to RR but there was a wee establishment in

Orkney St that used to make welcome Celtic supporters.

As i walked home to Ruglen that night i felt things could not get any worse.

But they did. They won 9 in a row.

My belief in my club never faltered,

And on that glorious day in May 1998 the darkness lifted.

If my 90yr auld da was in a care home in Brighton and disappeared tae France without anybody knowing,I would be asking serious questions of the staff.

Totally agree. Out for meal with wife tonight & asked her if she thought the Care Commission would get brought in due to auld yin goin walkies. Won’t repeat answer…i’m with you.

They are tempting me with a decent cash out, swithering, as I have not seen any of the game.

I like it, making it a statement of fact, letting everyone in Scotland support Celtic in that environment i.e. support your local team (e.g. Raith Rovers) in their local cups and leagues.

Raith ‘Rovers supporters, and everyone else, Your Champions League team is Celtic. Making sure everyone knows that is just how it is.

Scotland’s Champions League team is CELTIC.

Several years ago I turned to BBC at end of a defeated England game.

Lineker asked Ian Wright what he made of that match.

Wright said that he was not going to talk about it and turned away.

Lineker never pulled him up for not doing what he was being paid to do.

And the BBC continues to employ him !

He certainly did. Two fouls, one yellow card. I don’t want him to miss games in WC through similar behaviour. I’m looking forward to Izzy having a brilliant WC. I love the ghuy!

  18. Emilio McIzaguirre tackle was indeed a yellow, but the ball was there to be played/kicked (whether an Englander was lying in front of the ball or not)

Take your point. As per most things on cqn, the majority of people do not know the facts, only speculation. No idea if the auld yin pays £700 a week for home, but if he does, what were staff doing?

By the way, not getting at him. Total respect for him & rest of vets. My dad, 90, landed on Arromanches on D Day & rid this world of Naziz. Thanks dad xx

Final point. Stan Collymore would be an asset on the TV. Articulate, knowledgeable and always willing to mention Lisbon. He appreciates football tradition as opposed to those who only drone on about the EPL.

Considering the great tv that the BBC can make, I have never been impressed with their football commentators. Barry Davies was truly awful. David Coleman only ever said ” one – nil”. John Motson was very knowledgeable but stuttered through every sentence.

Lineker, Hansen and Shearer combination could not have been dreamed up by Harold Pinter.

Martin Tyler at ITV and then Sky has been the best over the last 30 years.
