Energy in abundance but discipline key

If you cast your mind back 50 weeks to the visit of Barcelona to Celtic Park you may remember we took to the field with a so-called skeleton squad.  Captain, Scott Brown, was missing, as was Hooper, Stokes and Izaguirre.  Of those outfield players on the bench, only Paddy McCourt had made a dozen appearances for the club.

We lost Lustig and Samaras to knocks during the game, replaced by Watt and Kayal, respectively (yes, an 18-year-old striker replaced the right back).

The script was written.  We have another enormous challenge ahead tonight but I would rather tackle Ajax than Barcelona.

There will be an abundance of energy from the crowd, and from the Celtic players, but discipline is all important.  Don’t make unforced errors, don’t take unnecessary risks, don’t pull jerseys, and most importantly of all, don’t concede free kicks in dangerous areas.

The team who makes the fewest mistakes will win the game; we don’t need to be desperately creative, just stick to task.

This is our Cup Final, let me at them…
