If you cast your mind back 50 weeks to the visit of Barcelona to Celtic Park you may remember we took to the field with a so-called skeleton squad. Captain, Scott Brown, was missing, as was Hooper, Stokes and Izaguirre. Of those outfield players on the bench, only Paddy McCourt had made a dozen appearances for the club.
We lost Lustig and Samaras to knocks during the game, replaced by Watt and Kayal, respectively (yes, an 18-year-old striker replaced the right back).
The script was written. We have another enormous challenge ahead tonight but I would rather tackle Ajax than Barcelona.
There will be an abundance of energy from the crowd, and from the Celtic players, but discipline is all important. Don’t make unforced errors, don’t take unnecessary risks, don’t pull jerseys, and most importantly of all, don’t concede free kicks in dangerous areas.
The team who makes the fewest mistakes will win the game; we don’t need to be desperately creative, just stick to task.
This is our Cup Final, let me at them…

Any CQN men in the tavern?
Oglach,
the fact you posted that on here I bet your better half will know about it before the night is out.
I can however offer you the Father Ted strategy, and give you details on my account if you would like it kept safe for you.
cheers.
ps, Dutch Tax Exiles, sounds awfully EBT to me.
keep it lit.
Good evening bhoys & ghirls,
Del Jnr (14), and his cousin (15), attending tonight for the first time on their own. I’m getting a bit concerned about the reports of trouble in city centre and Gallowgate.
Appreciate any updates from troops in the area.
Me and the Mrs had the unfortunate experience of sharing a platform at Central Stn in Amsterdam with some hard core Ajax fans a number of years ago, so I know what they can be like.
I have happy memories of the first time my dad let me go to a game myself, so would hate for him to get caught up in anything.
seems we play ajax every 10 years
heres my experience
i was 9 me da said dont take your eyes off

In the city centre loads of Ajax fans around no trouble here, easy to spot the Dutch – anyone over 5 foot 7!
Well done the wee hoops.
Same win for the big team tonight would suit me. ( easy pleased I know).
Stomach decided to start the old churning , must be that time again,
Champions League time.
Dont care who plays as long as they play well.
Away to get ready,
Mon the Hoops.

I’m in the USA myself, but texts from family in around the Gallowgate report there is no sign of trouble and signs of good spirits (ahem) everywhere.
As always have them stick to groups of older Tims moving to and from the game and they will be fine.
Hi Ghuys, Salve salve;-
As ever, I hope the bhoys are brave on the ball and work hard off it. Hope there is no trouble and that the AJax fans enjoy the unique experience of Celtic Park on a champions league night. Hope all Celtic and AJax fans return to their loved ones safe.
Greenwells.

Hi Paul67,
Very good point – we weren’t over confident this time before Barca last Season.
As we get close to kick-off my confidence grows – no it’s not Dutch Courage, well not yet.
Think Stokes Will play a part this evening ~ well done to the young bhoys 4 – 1 v Ajax – no too shabby!
Hail Hail
I didn’t believe we could turn Karagandy but we did and I am just happy to be at the big table and taking the money.
We are playing for a Europa slot not IMO which is more money for us. However we are failing to progress because we can’t score the goals at this level. No point droning on about Hooper because he never cut it among the big boys.
Next season there can be no more projects brought in…….we have enough of them. We need to spend the money and bring the finished article to score the goals (if he will come to scotland that is).
Theres never a good time to be a Tim…..its always good :)
May all your Gods go with you……….Celtic 2-1 Ajax

I am sure she will have known about it before I did. Like most women she has an uncanny ability to suss out a mans, alleged, fool proof cunning ploys. It compliments her doctorate in suspicion.
On way to game and Five Polish Celtic fans up the back of the bus drinking Cider and Buckie.

Cheers mate, that’s exactly the advice they’ve been given. That, and stay away from groups of tall guys who are not wearing colours!
COYBIG!
The last time I saw Celtic play Ajax in a European tie was 1971
We won 1-0 but went out 1-3
Johan Cruyff played that night,
Any other dinosaurs remember that game?
Ones called Ronald! Ones called Frank! It sounds funny in any language.
Mon The Sons of Dan!
so true ……………
how many times have you heard this question ……..
“whit you so happy aboot ?”
On the way to Paradise!

Being American and oblivious to ambiguity, my missus tells everyone I’m handy in and around tight situations.
All bars round gallowgate full of Ajax fans most are having good banter however been passing groups of them on gallowgate with no colours looking a bit threatening. Police keeping eye on them.
Bhoys I live in the Drenthe region of the Netherlands where the tallest people in the Netherlands come from. They are all basket ball player huge the average height must be well over 6ft for men and the women aren’t too much shorter. I feel like a hobbit amongst the Elves at the office
Actually I am convinced that the Nazi’s dumped their stocks of heavy water into the local canals thus irradiating the aquifers and drinking water hence the locals are in fact mutated, something which I point out to them on a regular basis. Normal people are just not that tall
Evening CQN….needing a bit of that special Celtic magic….wee Miss NB fluffed her Driving theory today …so the hoose is a bit down …but Celtic will cheer us always Win ,Lose or Draw….COYBIG …..Braw!

No punch line but a wee Glasgow joke. ‘ what animal has a c**t half way up its back’? ‘A police horse’ – haha snarff giggle
Just ran like feck from couple of hundred charging Ajax fans at bottom of gallowgate. Carnage. Be really careful Bhoys.
rrc
I do remember that match in 71 – was terrified of the noise made by the horns. Well I was 43 at the time!
I also mind we played really well up to when Jinky scored about 25 mins in and then they took over. Cruyff was well marked by Jim Brogan but the winger, Piet Kiezer, was brilliant .
I also mind as we trooped away from Hampden some guy who probably was in his forties with tears streaming down his face. His mate consoled him with the reassuring words
‘Whit are you greetin’ at? You’ve only f***ing been three times this season’
Good luck to the Bhoys tonight. I’m now about to head to Paradise

@celticfc: Celtic subs: Zaluska, Ledley, Biton, Balde, Rogic, Atajic, Fisher. (PC)
Dutch teams well known for the old 4 3 3
We could match them on that team. Big worry is will kayal keep his position?
That’s a pretty attacking line up. Good.
Last chance saloon for Kayal for me.
