ENGELS AND CO IN CRISIS

BELGIUM newcomer Arne Engels has found himself pitched into the middle of a full-blown international crisis.

Celtic’s £11million record signing from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg on deadline day made his first appearance for his country as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 UEFA Nations Cup win over Isreal in September.

However, a 1-0 loss to the same nation in Budapest last night has seen Belgian boss Domenico Tedesco and his players come under fire with the team failing to win any of their last five outings while losing four.

ON THE MOVE…Arne Engels has hit the ground running at Celtic.

France have beaten them twice, Italy once and now Israel have joined the list of conquerors. Their stalemate came in a 2-2 result against the Italians.

Engels and his team-mates suffered again when Yarden Shua struck with the game’s only goal four minutes from time.

Belgium just avoided relegation from Group A2 after finishing with four points, level with Israel, but with a better head-to-head record following the win two months ago.

It could have been even worse for Tedesco – his team escaped twice when their opponents struck the woodwork.

Engels, who was taken off three minutes into stoppage time, will aim to shake off his international woes when he lines up for the champions in Saturday night’s Premiership encounter against Hearts at Tynecastle.
