ENGELS IN DEMAND

ITALIAN giants AC Milan have joined the list of clubs showing an interest in Celtic playmaker Arne Engels.

The Belgian international midfielder, who just missed out on his country’s World Cup Finals squad, looks to be on his way from the champions this summer, according to a report in the Scottish Daily Mail.

Engels, who is the Hoops’ all-time record purchase at the £11million he cost when he joined from Bundesliga club Augsburg on August deadline day 2024, has already been linked with two other Serie A clubs.

Lazio and Roma are both reported to be monitoring the 22-year-old smooth operator’s situation.

THAT WINNING FEELING – AT THE DOUBLE…Arne Engels races away after sinking his crucial penalty-kick to make it 1-1 against Hearts before Celtic went on to a title-clinching 3-1 win and (below) the Belgian midfielder celebrates his strike in the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final success over Dunfermline.

Nottingham Forest launched a late £25million bid in the January window, but the Hoops hierarchy resisted the offer to hold onto the player who still has two years to run on his contract.

The Parkhead powerbrokers saw Engels as being a key operator and, after missing seven games in a row through injury, the classy middle-of-the-park performer came back in fine style to finish the season in strong form.

Engels helped to pull down the curtain on a double-winning season with a whizzbang goal in the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final triumph over Dunfermline.

The previous week, he had swept in a penalty-kick in the 3-1 victory over Hearts that sealed the club’s fifth successive title.

Those crucial efforts could turn out to be Engels’ last two strikes for the club.
