Arne Engels reached an interesting milestone on Saturday. He started his 35th competitive game for Celtic, which is exactly the same number of competitive starts he had made in his senior career before joining Celtic.
Augsburg signed him from the Brugge youth setup in January 2023, then threw him into their midfield for the remainer of the season. The following term he was used more sparingly, as the German side navigated the player’s development.
He arrived in Glasgow last summer, a few days short of his 21st birthday, and has played with very little rest since. He is not only the youngest player in the team, he’s the youngest player in the squad. Nicolas Kuhn, the next youngest who plays regularly, is four years older than him.
Given where Arne is, he has had a remarkable season, way more successful than we were entitled to expect a year ago. There will be dips in form to come, we saw the same with Matt O’Riley in his second season, but Arne’s growth potential is higher than anyone else at the club today. We all have a role to play in helping him get there.

Trump posting on FF says the slump in the American economy,is Joe Bidens fault.
Wins the most intelligent post of the year a award.
What an unbelievablle game.Don’t have the words.
Burnley,
Watching our B team last night,I honestly don’t see anyone of them making the step up.Many poor at the basics.I dont think the coaching is good enough.
The same goes for their B team.Very poor standard all over the park.Again, looking t both coaches, not hard to see why.

Gone are the days of the Quality St Kids….
Listening to the usual suspects tonight,Sally and Co,they all missed the astonishing piece of skill from Lamal near the end when he,well,I dont know what he actually did, when he hit the bar near the end.A shot, come flick, with spin and swerve on it,like a Wedge shot out a bunker.
Astonishing.
31003,
Sadly yes.More like The Bash St Kids now.
Clunks: delighted for your mother and yourself. Hope everything works out well.

BARCA v INTER last night…it ended in a 3 – 3 Draw.
I had Barca to win 3 – 2 and I also had a Score of 2 – 2 with the Bookies.
There are some days when you do NOT mind losing a couple of Quid when you watch a Fitba game with just about everything happening.
GREAT Game very entertaining.
McCoist doing his best to ruin the game for viewers….Rio Ferdinard not much better.
I REFUSE to allow the FAT GARDENER spoil my enjoyment…Whit a HUN CHUMP he is.
I’ve asked this before, DOES McCoist REPEAT Himself at every opportunity in a Pub for instance ?
He’s a Feckin nightmare…End of.

What the existing Sevco shareholders get for their shares is irrelevant.
The new buyers have much deeper pockets that the share vendors .
——
TT – I’d suggest it is totally relevant.
Quantifiable evidence they’ll invest emotionally and financially in anything.
Con artists have a phrase for this.
An easy mark.
PS – “deeper pockets”?
All part of the con.
Aberdeen were always going to get as many tickets as they asked for. Had the other lot made the final against them there would be some ‘segregation’ issues too limit them to 14-16k – seen it all before.
The young Aussie kid is defo worth a look especially with a strong Celtic connection – nothing to lose bringing him over for extended trial period. Be amazed if we didn’t have a decent scouting team in Aus – they produce great sports people although ‘soccer’ is quite far down the food chain for kids.
Which takes me to our B team and the lack of progression. For me the bottom line is that kids just don’t play enough anymore. I don’t mean coached or games just play with ball and learn and develop skills. I’m 58 – as a kid a played constantly with kids of all ages and so did everyone else. I know it sounds like all our yesterdays but we literally played all day – 3 and in, 5/11 ers, 10/21 ers, crossy, x per side depending how many boys were kicking around and even on my own one timers again a wall or garage door. Then came the matches for the school and boys clubs on a Saturday morning then afternoon and some boys had a Sunday team too. We used to go to Overtoun Park and there was huge games on and you just turned up and waited til some went home and you got on to play mainly with strangers from all over. The point is that for years that just hasn’t been the case and the kids just don’t develop the same way both in terms of skills and the intelligence you learn just messing around or playing lots of games. I heard a coach talking to a parent at recent kids game near me and told home there were hoping to up training to twice a week after summer?
I don’t have many answers but in my view we will never get back close to what we produced years gone by until we can facilitate environments where young kids can just go play and learn and it’s unlimited access like we had. The natural talents will flourish, the decent ones will get better, the average ones will improve, get fit and make pals and shit ones will become goalies – lol. After that the systems and academies will pick them up and with strong coaching who knows but you got to play and you got to play young and often IMHO

Incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell has told Rangers board members that Sean Dyche would be a “brilliant” next manager at Ibrox. (Football Insider)
Above from BBC Sports Scotland gossip page. As someone who lives in Ireland I am so happy I don’t have to pay a licence fee for that level of nonsense. What’s the point of that statement? I know it is to primarily reassure all the Huns thta they are a great club and managers and players all over the world are desperate to be part of Ra Raaangers Revolution Part XXXIII this summer! But dear oh dear what drivel

I thought Ally McCoist’s observation last night that all the CL semi finalists have players in their team than can commit opponents and get forward was extraordinary insight…

Arsenal v PSG on Tuesday…
Just before the game started the Commentator on TNT Sports informed the viewers that there would be a Minutes Silence for POPE FRANCIS before Kick Off.
He added, that ALL CL games and Europa League and Conference Leagues this week would do likewise this week in a mark of respect for Pope Francis.
My IMMEDIATE thought however was for the HUN STAFF and Players and HUN FANS who on hearing this News, must have thought …..
” THANK FECK we were knocked OOT of Europe a couple of weeks ago ” !
The Nasty Hun Scum would NOT have been happy IF they were to be part of a Minutes Silence for any POPE, with the whole of Europe WATCHING !
