England, or Israel, or Sweden, or Iceland, striker search goes on

743

It’s probably rash to suggest Neil Lennon dismisses the inflated English market when trying to sign a striker in preference for the Continent.  Europe has plenty of quality leagues, and gifted players, but it also has plenty of scouts.

The tops leagues enjoy blanket analysis, which has consequences.  Our experience of Lassad and Miku suggests that if we can tempt a striker to move from the likes of Spain to Scotland there’s maybe a reason why.  Even the secondary leagues, such as Slovakia and Poland, are scouted extensively by German clubs, who are the most desired destination for most East European players.  The success rate in bringing targeted strikers to the club from Europe has been low, which had real consequences for this season.

So where does that leave us?  Second tier teams in second tier (but still good) leagues, like Vitoria Guimaraes, who we bought Amido Balde from (strikers at top Portuguese clubs are aiming for the sky), go back to the English Championship, or maybe a peripheral league, like Sweden or Israel, again, or Iceland.

Celtic proposition is not without merit, we will now be touting Champions League football under the noses of every prospect, but finding a player capable of delivering the talent for that stage is the central challenge to the club.

  1. Morning,

Off hand, does anyone know if my house insurance might cover it?

Has the weather made any impact to the game ramorra night? I don’t want murder well to get off on a technicality…

  6. Slabhoy - Duntocher is Green and White on

Went to the Stoke vs. Cardiff game last night. A goalless draw as dull as ditchwater. We would more than hold our own down here from season one and go on to become contenders. Bring it on PL ASAP

Just checked my policy, no mention of external damage other than my house.

After perusing, a claim would be a waste of time after excess and the policy cost would most likely rise in line with what I would have received… If anything.

Cheers anyway… Suppose that’s my Christmas sorted…a new hut :((

  9. So I have to work till I am 68 now!

I am off this week and was dreading going back on Monday FFS.

  10. Just listened to Spirtsound’s podcast from last night.

Stuart Dougal was given 20 minutes airtime to discuss the Cifti incident.

What he was clear about was the injustice to the poor refs.

There us NO CHANCE of a strike a la 2010.

When discussing instances other than the only other incident incident mentioned was, you wii have guessed, Neil Lennon coming on the pitch to give him a verbal blast.

None of Dougal,MacIntyre, Dodds, Ferguson or Spence who were contributing even thought to mention the last time a ref was manhandled to draw comparisons. Yes, that wee lamb Bougherra.

    Disgraceful.

Wonder why Dougal is so convinced there is No chance of another strike.

  13. Back home after unsuccessful attempt at getting to work. Honest….i tried:-D

Sipsini- just doing my insurance policy the noo and it stipulates – “tick here if you want to add outbuildings, such as sheds, greenhouses to your cover”

As you say not worth it.

However, word of warning to those renewing their policy. Got a letter 2 weeks ago stating policy was due for renewal. You don’t need to do anything other than sign and return the forms. Checked the price…wee bit dearer than last year.

Went online, put in roughly same cover and it was 50% cheaper. Phoned company and let rip. End result…..paying half what I was last year.

Sorry for overlong post, blame Sipsini, :-) But moral of story is not to take things at face value…phew.

  14. Rangers ace Bilel Mohsni: We can match Arsenal’s Invincibles by finishing this season’s campaign unbeaten

    5 Dec 2013 08:17

Are these clowns for real, with the resources they have compared to the part time teams there playing that’s the minimum requirement I would imagine. Comparing what arsenal done to what there trying to do is embarrassing.

  15. Jack Irvine , sure as he’ll working for his money this month, the excremental stuff that is coming out of that sheet hole, would bung up the drainage system in Bombay, honestly.

  16. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    art of war,

With the property price crash over here in Ireland, most homes were considerably lowered.

As a result, if we renewed our Insurance at what was the value before the crash, it was effectively over insuring the value of our houses.

I revalued mine to the prevailing prices, considering also the guidlines for our new Local Property Tax ( Rates ).

I saved €125 on the adjustment.

  17. Why on earth do we have a link to the “Light Hearted Dig at the Holy Goalie” on a Celtic blog?

Light Hearted my arse……..they still hate Artur for his days as a Celtic player, should be removed.

  18. NatKnow - Supporting Wee Oscar on

Trains off due to trampolices and haystacks on the line according to Herald website. Now normally I’d be chortling at that, but since my trampoline is a broken wreck at my back door I’m taking the issue extremely seriously.

  19. Thomthetim- well done!

I only changed my excess from £100 to £250 and removed ‘lawyer cover’.

    £150 notes saved p.a.

Why would I need lawyer cover…..unless I was travelling to Amsterdam! :-(
