Erik ends difficult year with loan move

412

I know we all liked big Erik. He brought instant calm to Ronny Delia’s team when he arrived two years ago today. But, while 2016 started authoritatively for the central defender, it ended with him looking pensive and out of his depth at Ibrox, albeit in a Celtic win.

2017 has been largely forgettable for the player. This season has effectively been a write-off for him, after an injury in the Champions League qualifiers. It would have been better for all if he got a permanent deal elsewhere but at least a loan return to Midtjylland will afford him time to regain his confidence, hopefully leading to a new deal elsewhere in the summer.

I am sure we are still looking at the central defensive space for this month.  There could be more in and out.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

Seeing you are around, for the record nobody has grassed you to me and I have historically deleted a couple of your posts. As I have deleted posts that personally attack you.

To those of you who have posted personal insults or name called Kevj I will continue to delete those posts.

Kevj is repetitive but is entitled to his view, please debate with him civilly or simply ignore his posts.

Got the odd half crown in a police line up there on the way to a game.

Getting out of Scotland is not in Celtic’s power.

Making sure they are not cheated again is not only in their power it is in their interest as long as they are stuck in Scotland.

However if ever they had the leverage to show to UEFA why they could not object to allowing Celtic to play elsewhere if that opportunity ever arose, then they are sitting on it.

Celtic have made their position quite clear, which is disappointment at SFA refusal to investigate how RFC use of ebts was handled combined with surprise SFA using other information that came out in court (but SFA knew all about) to investigate the UEFA licence.

They are waiting for that outcome which, if what appears to have happened, did happen will serve to make revisiting LNS impossible to deny. A revist that is what Celtic asked for.

As Celtic have stated to shareholder reps. This is not going to go away. Self respect alone should ensure that.

On a bookies boycott the idea is bookies tell the SFA to get their act together since the SFA have ignored Celtic and the SPFL.

I know but your post provided an opportunity to refocus the debate on bookies for others coming in late and thinking it was old ground stuff.

    Police IDs.

I worked near Patrick Marine, about 1981. CID stopped me and asked would i participate in police line up. £3 quid they offered me. My weekly wage then would only have been about £25, they told me it would only take a few minutes.

Liars!!!. They still had to find others who would agree, anyway when it started, ages later, the witness picked me out!!! I was 17 years old and for a few moments panicking. What if they believed her? Thankfully the Police put me at ease and said not to worry that it happens. I still recall that cold sweat though!! Thankfully I hadn’t read then about all the miscarriages of justice, that I have now or I would really have been panicking. Suffice to say, I never done it again.

  12. Wboucotting the bookies ?

I’ve been doing it all my life. Only once ever set foot in a bookie shop, and that was for work reasons, and never been tempted to open an online account.

That said, I don’t have any problem with the idea of betting or people who like a flutter on the nags, fitba, or whatever else they fancy. It’s their money and not my place to tell them what they should do with it.

As for the OBAF act, I said at the time, and my view hasn’t changed. The old “Breach of the Peace” law is and always has been sufficiently broad in scope to deal with any offensive behaviour football related or otherwise. No new legislation was required specifically for Football Fans, pure politics, nothing more.

  13. Bournesouprecipe. Thanks for that. I was born in a beautiful part of the country. Just one thing did you mean Clachan of Campsie or even Campsie Glen that is where Schoenstat is, a place of peace and calm. My mum loved going there and everytime I go out to her grave at Lennoxtown (or Campsie as the natives say) I also go to the Glen and say a wee prayer for her and my dad there.

  14. STARRY PLOUGH, that brings back memories my aunt was a shop steward at ravenscraig she only died 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 90.hh.

  15. AULDHEID.

Yep, that’s me. On the other side though and just over Stevenson Street, at 145.

I understand the idea of the bookies boycott, and I’m for it. I think it’s a good idea.

I hope that LNS is revisited. And that Celtic are treated fairly. But I also want them working on getting into a bigger pond whether it’s in their power or otherwise.

I understand MIT’s sacrifice theory but I can’t imagine living in Scotland and not going to every game I could.

Please keep up the great work you are doing. It’s appreciated.

Can I echo HT’s response. The SNP have made much of Nil By Mouth’s survey of fan opinion (and yes I know that is not the one mentioned by Wiki specifically). I wrote to NBM asking them to supply me with the name of the organisation that had constructed their poll, as I considered it ‘loaded” and unscientific, and I do have some training and experience in what is required in attitudinal research. I received 4 replies, each one side stepping the questions I posed and refusing to reveal details, with the only defence being mounted being an appeal to expertise- “We know what we are doing- we have experience in this area- trust us!”. I gave up after my 4th attempt to breach their unwillingness to be open.

The SNP also cited the Stirling researchers (the official academic group with the contract for evaluating this Act and its application and effect. The SNP had hinted that early signs from research were positive, so again I wrote directly to the researchers and, this time, got a completely professional response, telling me that they had made no positive pronouncements, that any data was in the early stages of being collected and that no viewpoint- positive or negative- had emerged from their university. I have to say that I was impressed with their commitment to appropriate academic rigour as opposed to the Nil By Mouth approach.

However, the main effect of their refusal to be “bought” by the SNP and to massage the data to suit the spin they wanted to emerge was that their work has been downgraded and sidelined. Now the SNP response emphasises Lord Bracadale’s review and makes no mention of Stirling Uni’s work.

I am not saying that there was not a large expression of support for questions asked in the form of “Do you favour mesures to tack;e bigotry and sectarianism?”- who is going to say No to that- it is an appeal to Mom’s Apple Pie and The Flag. And it is framed in the same way as “When did you stop beating your wife?” type questions

The one thing that has never been asked by anyone other than the FAC group is “Are you in favour of arresting young men, criminalising them and jeopardising their career and qualifications prospects for such things as shouting “Well, Well, F*** your Well!” or singing “The Broad Black Brimmer” or even singing “The Billy Boys” or “The Famine Song”.

I believe you work in the computing field and will be familiar with the GIGO principle. That is what we have here- people were fed garbage questions in and we got Garbage viewpoint out which I genuinely do not believe will prove to be representative of the wider support.

You do not have to be in favour of bigotry or sectarianism, as alleged by the SNP troll who appeared asking questions in recent threads only to disappear pronto when sussed, to be against this Act.

You just need to be informed. Sadly, too few are, and Wings over Bath is a risible commentator.

  19. My post at 8.11pm should obviously read “Boycotting the bookies”

Just as well typo’s haven’t yet been the subject of a “breach” charge, although in the right circumstances, it could be argued that a “breach” had been committed, such is the scope of the charge ;-)

  20. Big Cup Winners,

Very likely to be a radar station. Not familiar with the geography of the area you mention, but if it’s anywhere near an airport, or an approach route to an airport, that’s the most likely explanation.

St. Mirren’s crowds were markedly up at that time from what I remember and with them pushing for promotion this season that could happen again.
