Error in positions. Racism in spate

463

Just as a year ago, we lost the first game of the season against Newco, but the similarities end with the result.  Celtic bossed the first half and created the better chances in an even second period.  Goals change games and when Kyogo Furuhashi centred a cross for Odsonne Edouard, the game should have changed.  Instead, Odsonne took his eye off the ball, which bounced off his heel and ran to safety.

One week ago today, despite scoring six against St Mirren, I urged Ange Postecoglou to play Kyogo through the middle, if necessary moving Odsonne to the left.  He started Kyogo on the left yesterday and although Celtic enjoyed the bulk of possession, they were blunt in front of goal; Odsonne’s miss starkly demonstrating the point.  It was a foreseeable error from Ange, which he later accepted.

Although Newco were unable to keep possession throughout the first half, at home, exclusively in front of their own fans, news of their demise was exaggerated.  They survived the torrent when required and adjusted their game plan at halftime.  From that point, Celtic were no more than equal in the contest until Kyogo moved into the middle on 70 minutes.

After Kygo shot from a tight angle, Ryan Christie reacted animatedly towards his teammate, presumably complaining that the Japanese striker did not square the ball for him to finish in front of goal.

I’m never keen on Celtic players shouting at each other and suspect this show of agitation contributed to Kyogo passing instead of shooting moments later, when the clear shot at goal was on.  Our Imperious Icon could be forgiven for wondering why bother laying chances on a plate for others after Edouard’s earlier miss.

Just like the first goal we lost to Newco last season, yesterday’s goal was lost from a set piece but I’m not pressing the panic button on this one.  Last year we were unable to form a straight defensive line, it was largely the central defenders who were causing the problems.  The defenders were correctly marshalled yesterday, the goal was lost because none of the others picked up a late runner.

The transformation in Celtic in such a short period has been beyond any of our expectations.  We will continue to improve and I expect will top the table after Newco’s visit on 2 January.  In losing twice so early, however, we have put ourselves under unwelcome pressure.  Playing the beautiful stuff is not always rewarded.

Last week they came after the Japanese, yesterday, they came after the Irish.  Racism in Scotland is in spate, it was even given a police escort post-match in Glasgow yesterday.  It is not the responsibility of Celtic to win so often that the mob have no opportunity to wreak havoc on the city.

Our political leaders and police cannot ignore this problem away.  Scotland is home to many cultures, creeds and ethnicities.  All will suffer unless the laws of the land are enforced.

  1. SQUIRE DANAHER @ 9:04 AM,

Thanks for the heads up, went back and read – interesting debate; those trying to excuse over a decade of mismanagement, incompetence and neglect, as our custodians worshipped at the altar of rational egoism, are either deluding themselves or continuing to delude us.

    Neither a good look.

    Hail Hail

  2. Watched Carter- Vickers playing for Spurs in Europa 2 weeks ago.

    Looked an absolute dumpling.

  3. Ryan & Odsonne, farewell. Some of the goals they scored will live long in the memory, far outweighing their displays of the last 18months. Odsonne’s goal against Sevco at Ibrox when down to 10 men was just supreme and you could feel the dejection of their fans and the players through the tv! Ryan’s goals in cup finals, semis & 1/4s against Aberdeen and Hearts, were his highlights along with his energy, and if Bournemouth gets some of that then the publicity down there will have some EPL clubs after him next season. Haven’t heard yet, but hopefully, we also have a sell-on clause for Ryan as well, but, being down to his final 6 months I doubt it. Thanks, lads is been a joy at times, por cierto.

  4. TURKEYBHOY @ 9:02 AM,

Celtic are a football club.Just what power do you think they have?

Celtic are more than a Club, dontcha know.!?

And as a Football Club they have a duty to the governance of the sport which they failed spectacularly to partake in from 2011 onwards.

And as a football club they had a responsibility to put out the best team they possibly could and failed spectacularly to achieve from 2006 onwards.

Celtic have not only the power but the resources and opportunity to make it happen.

The fact that our custodians were in their ivory tower counting all their money when they should have been ensuring sporting governance and sporting excellence means Celtic as a football club were negligent.

Celtic as more than a Club were a complete disgrace.

    Hail Hail

  5. Don’t have much confidence that we will make enough signings today to give us a strong enough squad to be top of the league come Jan 2nd.

    But I live in hope.

  6. Today’s massive in the context of our development and massive rebuilding that became necessary due to our incredible lack of planning in the last 18 months.

@jimtim 12am last nights post – bang on as far as needing to strengthen physically.

When you look at corners against v Sevco you are fearing the worst.

Moving forward is it too much to ask for the following..

    Out please

    Barkas

    Boli

    LG

    Replaced by

A competent back up goalkeeper who would replace Bain as No 2.

Quality LB to replace Boli and be ahead of Taylor ( wouldnt be difficult),

A no nonsense CB who can defend the penalty box with grit and determination.

That would leave us Welsh / Chris / Carl and potentially new arrival.

An experienced midfielder who has bags of energy as at least Christie had that in abundance, but also

One who is technically gifted with some physical presence.

Lastly a striker to replace LG as Ajeti looks like staying but judging by what we’ve all seen from him he unfortunately doesn’t look good enough to really contribute.

    So that’s 5 players in today ….

Not going to happen is it?

Fingers crossed for a good day

    Hail Hail.

  7. If reported moves to Crystal Palace and Bournemouth work out today for Eddie and Ryan then they can both Ange for giving them back a bit of the focus that made them the effective players they were not so long ago. Eddie in particular will no doubt further benefit from working with Patrick Viera, and Ryan should do well at Bournemouth even if they are no longer a top level club. Given that both have played alongside Kyogo and Abada, neither can be classed as replacements, though that may change today. Best wishes to both, and a reminder that we still provide a route to both the EPL and the South Coast of England.

    —————————-

    yip I am deluded.

mismanagement, incompetence and neglect leading to world record unbeaten run (69 games), an invincible treble, quadruple trebles, nine in a row, highest ever transfer in and out, academy graduates starring for celtic for many years or attracting serious transfer fees, hampden moments to match any of our most famous cup wins, changing of managers giving continued success, rare european wins, …………

but but bookended by a deliberate capitulation in 2011 to old rangers and handing the new rangers the title in 2020

Eddie and Christie have my best wishes. We’ve lost two key squad members and unfortunately look set to have a weaker squad when the window closes.

Eh!!!!!!!!.Both were an absolute disgrace last year.A couple of half decent games against smaller teams this season, does not cut it.If we had signed a couple of Chelsea Pensioners we would be stronger. At least we will have some real effort from the new signings. Some right dewy eyed guff getting spouted on here.

  15. Last week,Ange was on about more Japanese signings, but did not have enough time this window.Says he knows who he wants.Maybe waiting until January to sign more.

Let’s see what the day brings. No use in signing players Ange does not want.We will have our hands full bedding in the new signings.

  16. Eddy sold to a lowly EPL club on deadline who could have predicted that?

After he settled on a permanent deal the first observations on here, included Celtic supporters that were adamant Eddy wasn’t a centre forward? as such, and as he leaves Lennoxtown for the last time he still should have been where Kyogo was on Sunday.

Eddy wants to play with the ball before he caresses into the net, strikers can’t get rid of it quickly enough where had they done so at Poundland the other day, the only sound we’d have heard on SKY was the ball hitting nylon netting.

A glorious sound, and farewell to the last of the musketeers

  25. While disappointed I didn’t feel depressed by Sunday’s result at Ibrox. Had Eddie converted his chance I think it would have been a Celtic win. We created some great chances and cut their defence open on several occasions. Juranovic had a great debut for us also.

I felt Ange should have switched Eddie and Kyogo after 25 minutes when it was clear it wasn’t working. I was, however, pleased that Ange ‘fessed up to his error. It shows that he’s not likely to repeat it in future. We now need to buckle down and get points in the bag. We’ve now been to Tynecastle and Ibrox. They’ve yet to go to Tynecastle and Celtic Park. Let’s be patient and get behind Ange and the team.

  26. OE and RC going is hopefully the end of an era – coming to Celtic can get you places. Hopefully, Ange can say to the player – come to Celtic, I want you to do a job for us. We hit an amazing run of recruitment – but there’s something inherently wrong with it. I can’t offer any alternatives – I wouldn’t know the first thing about coping beside the epl. How can you explain OE’s transformation int our morelos? RC turned BR’s time at CP around and has vanished. If we buy players, they’ve got to be coming to celtic fullstop.

  27. Just watched the goals montage from Edouard below the item Bada Bing posted above. Stone Roses playing over the top. So sad he is gone and even sadder the last season and a bit were poor from the team and himself. He was always going to move on; that’s the Moussa template we sold him but I wish it had been after netting on Sunday. Another player to make MotD worth watching to see how they do and also how they avoid mentioning they used to play for Celtic!

  28. Unbelievable on here sometimes. For years all I have heard every window was,”Get Mc Carthy signed”.Now he is a sick note.No matter who we sign,”Not happy”.We sign players, and give them no chance to settle, bed in,get used to their teammates, new tactics.Nope, instant verdict.I remember Big Elliott who had a really rough patch when he first signed saying he could not believe what was happening. All he could see were opponents running towards him, because we were so attack minded.Went on to be a cracker for us.

Today, one guy on here having watched Carter Vickers, for ONE game, has called him”An absolute dumpling”
