We all have our prejudices and mine kicks in when Celtic sign a player with a high profile in England. They usually come with zero development opportunity and they have all been scouted every time a ball bounced within five meters of them. We do very well when monitoring the development squad at Fulham and almost as well with the same cohort at Manchester City, but for the most part, Celtic need to cast the net wider than their English counterparts.
Azerbaijan is just about as far from the regular haunts of English scouts as you can get. If a Columbian striker can settle there, he can settle in Scotland. There are no guarantees any new signing will work, we know for sure some will not. Football is a numbers game, get the right profile in, in the correct volume and at the right price, and you have a chance of succeeding.

Well of course the ones with a HIGH profile would be out of our reach in any case, but there are plenty of others within our reach with lots of development opportunity. Matt O’Riley worked out pretty well for us. Michael Olise could have been picked up for £8m – now valued at £150m!. How much have we wasted on cheap punts from “untapped markets”?
We don’t need a lot of new players like spoiled Rodgers used to get.
We need a new system that dizny include playing tippy tappy out from the back.
We need to be a Celtic team again playing with 2 strikers and zero easily double marked wingers.
We need to shoot on site of goals creating havoc in opposition box if GK pams the ball out etc.
We need to get rid of 40,000 seats and all of the bores that the unneeded seats have undoubtedly created.
W need to get rid of the 2 big screens and all of the bawheid poseurs that they have created.
We need to be more Paraguay and less trying to copy the emasculated Joneseys!

MoR was sold for £25m because he stood out in his final season.
If Engles gets sold for £25m is that because he has contibuted to Celtic to same degree as MoR or clubs with more money than football sense are happy to pay more for less?
If so then Celtic only need to sign players good enough to be first team players without dazzling us with their ability, to sell at a good profit.
The problem with that is Celtic’s core business becomes player trading and improving player football quality is not essential for making money.

We clearly use the platforms we have to identify specific types of players within a cost bracket the club is happy to live within. We appear to have a very strict self imposed fiscal approach that hinders activity in the transfer market.
Our 1st team should be no larger than 22 players with academy kids behind that core group.

A quick bit of Youtube scouting suggests that the new bhoy – Duran – could be a tidy player.
Good pace, good feet, good finisher, and looks to be fairly athletic/physical with it.
Aside, there was a lot of chatter about Maloney and Fozz not being around for the period following the end of the season. While it’s true that neither had been appointed to the coaching team for the coming year, Maloney was a fulltime employee in his capacity as Professional Player Pathway Manager.
Besides any annual leave, if MON wanted him to hit the scouting databases, analyse our set piece defending or put out the cones for the kids, Shaun would have done what he was telt. Point being, he was in the building and, I’m sure, was earning his (PPP Mgr) wage .
Fozz on the other hand was signing on.

So, in the last couple of weeks Celtic FC were honoured by the City of Lisbon, with Lisbon hero Jim Craig and Chairman Brian Wilson attending the event at a specially adorned Stadium of Light. Shaun & Mark confirmed as Martin’s Asst coaches, while Ross Grant joins as speciality coach from Hearts. Our CEO, Chairman & Manager attend event with Association of Irish CSCs. Celtic FC play in Dublin against Shelbourne (attended by Dermot, Mike & Brian) with a team including CCV, some on loan returnees, a number of our youth prospects and a favourite of mine, unlucky with injuries, Adam Montgomerie. Oh* and several members of the Celtic squad visited ‘Children’s Health (Ireland) in Crumlin, along with the Scottish Cup which we won er last season. News too of new forward signing……
