Ethics of exposing a vulnerable man, Pythonesque statement

337

You know what I think, defeats from rivals only do limited damage, the toxic poison comes from within.  Internecine strife, Bear on Bear action, can rip Newco apart.

I don’t know what Lee Wallace and our old pal Kenny Miller said to Graeme Murty on Sunday, but if it was along the lines of ‘You are out of your depth, incapable of operating at this level and exposed for what you are’, they would be correct.  That doesn’t make them right, though.

Speaking truth to the boss sounds like a good idea but commonly all it does is isolate you, weaken the boss and make everyone’s job more difficult.  Kenny Miller reached the Champions League knock out stages under Gordon Strachan, he knows what a good manager looks like.  Along with the rest of the world, he knows Murty is vulnerable and out of his depth, but it is not ethically, or tactically, a good thing to expose his vulnerability.

Whatever Miller and Wallace said was almost certainly right, but ethically it is up there with the solicitor-cum-tax advisor-cum-porn star-cum-convict Paul Baxendale Walker, who was Sir David Murray’s chief architect at Oldco and who faced a bankruptcy court hearing this week.

What an absolute shower.

Loved the statements yesterday.  ‘We’re so upset we are going to be quiet’, is Pythonesque.  It sits alongside ‘I fart in your general direction’ as an absurd masterpiece.

Just brilliant that another fan group caught the zeitgeist by telling fans “Millions have been ploughed into the club by the current board”.  So let’s not be hastily apportioning blame to Dave and Co.  I hope neither group realise how much fun they give.

  1. A not implausible Celtic team for next season.

Gordon, Ralston, Hendry, Ajer, Tierney, Brown ,McGregor, Armstrong , Forrest Griffiths and Morgan/Christie.

    Minimum 10 Scots.

Move Tierney to centre back and bring in Miller for Ajer and we have 11 Scots

It is a while since we could have fielded a credible team of Scots.

  2. Dallas.

Thanks for the info and the kind words.

I’m guessing my Dad would have been a bit older than yours, born 1938

He loved Charles Patrick Tully, when he was a youth, young man, but as he grew older his fav was definitely Bobby Murdoch, moving on to the 70s he loved Kenny.

    Night all.

    Enjoy.

I’ve been in KevJ’s presence twice. The first was the Fans Against Criminalisation rally in George Square 4(?) years ago when he briefly made his introductions to a group of CQNrs and then went ‘aff oot’!

The other occasion was at a Q&A evening in Blantyre where the panel included Paul67 and Phil MacGiollabhain.

He certainly is a Celtic Man. But his methods of demonstrating that aren’t commonly replicated by most of the folk that post on here.

    Jobo…

I was at that night in Blantyre, the late Paul mc Conville was the other guest speaker.

A sad loss to the Celtic community.

Kev J is definitely a Celtic man but as you say he has a funny way of showing it sometimes.

  4. I wonder which of Kevjungle’s basic propositions we should agree on.

Neil Lennon is nothing but a cheap board puppet who took the job when Mark McGhee walked away when he saw the budget he had to work with.

Neil Lennon is nothing but a board puppet who brings all the trouble on himself.

The old board where the last true Celtic board to really have the best interest of the fans at heart.

Mark McGhee has Neil Lennon’s number and we should have appointed him instead.

Graham Murty has pulled Brendan’s pants down and has his measure.

Ditto when he mamaged a draw in his second stint.

That supporters who still turn up to watch Celtic are board apologists, sheep, old firm loving idiots.

Then again as an avowed back of the bus, Old firmist, board apologizing sheep season ticket holder I would say that.

A while ago , p67 blogged that newco would limp on in a mess, would challenge for 2, 3rd 4th place, would be financially poor and there would be no let up. I believed him but nothing has prepared anybody for the depths of their pain and shambles and I don’t think they’re anywhere near reinventing themselves in order to survive and thrive. The pain will only gets worse.

In work, ten of us contribute to a weekly accumulator bet @ €2 each (plus fines for poor bets) and we pay five weeks in advance.

I’m working in other schools this week and asked if someone would pay for me.

Here is my (hun boss’ response):

I *would* have paid for you but Eamon got in ahead of me!!!!

And here’s my response to him:

Just as well. I owe a fortune. Just like……

I’m not a great fan of John James, but there were a couple of snippets from the last few days that I did find noteworthy.

The first explains that SPFL wanted the game against Sevco on the 21st but Police Scotland didn’t – 2 Orange marches that day. I checked and one is 1 in Yoker starting at 10:30 and another in Tollcross at 4:30. Powder kegs before and after the game. Maybe they should just have banned the marches!

*That’s a parcel of scheitd; on the day of the black walk which was scheduled for Bellahouston Park we played them at hades in the opening LC game, the big Fife Beckenbauer made his debut.

The genius that was Jock played him on the right wing with the wee mhan playing through the middle, the 2nd goal was to be repeated by George a year later as their greatest player miscued a pass back and Wispy nipped in.

There was no mention of postponing or rescheduling it, the only change was a 3:30 ko. We won 2-0 courtesy of a Wispy double early in the first half and on a sunny and hot day there was trouble in the Celtic end in the 2nd half but it was put down to rival gangs or teams as they were called, rumour had it that the Drumchapel Buck had infiltrated our end tae get at the Cumbie.

BTW I believe you asked about a game at Boagheid where the Bear ran amok, I have no recollection of that and I often went in tae Dumbarton especially if we were playing and that includes reserve games as I have previously mentioned. I was actually there watching our reserves when Dumbarton unveiled their new acquisition from Yoker, Ian Wallace.

Don’t forget the Sons were in the lower divisions for years and only returned for the 1972/73 season and by that time John was down at Palace.

We did win 6-1 on our first visit there with Pat McCluskey, who would later play for them, grabbing a hat trick with Wispy getting Dumbarton’s late consolation goal. Strangely enough Jock left local lad Evan Williams out of the side for that game despite him playing in the games before and after.

  13. Mike,

Are you willing to take full responsibility for your idea?

If you think CQN can get a bit fractious, just wait for the moniker misinterpretations to start.

We could soon rival “Rangers” for splinter groups.

  17. This bit from the Hampden roar article made me…..

    ??

?? the noise level only came from one half of the crowd…

Vanguardia compared the touchline peak level, immediately after each goal, from the crowd of 49,729 to the roar of a lion from less than a metre away, the front row of a music concert, or just short of a jet engine at take-off from 25 metres.

As a Celt who travels the old roads, I expect to be in Edinburgh trying to buy a ticket for our game. Probably won’t win the raffle. Sorry, Catherine.

Most games before the turn of the year is a given. In recent seasons as spring recurs, the wad of notes wafted tells me the target isn’t extra tickets, the money guys are making a pitch for those given a brief.

Sickens me profusely to know CSC bus convenors are earning a week’s wages from controlling ticket distribution.

  19. Apropos of nothing but I always hated hampden during our season there. Cup final win not withstanding.
