EURO BACK IN ACTION, BRENDAN

0

BRENDAN RODGERS will tonight lead his players into his SIXTY-SECOND European encounter when Celtic take on Sporting Braga at Parkhead.

It will be the fourth time the Hoops gaffer has been in charge in a Euro tie this season and the three previous games have ended in draws.

The two goalless deadlocks with Kairat Almaty led to the subsequent Champions League exit when Adam Idah, Luke McCowan and Daizen Maeda squandered their penalties in the spot-kick shoot-out.

The Europa League campaign kicked off in the Serbian capital when Kelechi Iheanacho netted in the 1-1 stalemate against Red Star Belgrade.

HEADSCRATCHER…Brendan Rodgers before Celtic’s Champions League exit in Kazakhstan.

Now Rodgers and Celtic are looking for the breakthrough victory in the 5.45pm start against the Portuguese under the lights in the east end of Glasgow this evening.

Overall, the Irishman has guided the Hoops to 21 wins and 14 draws while losing 26 of his previous 61 outings in charge.

Remarkably, the 52-year-old team chief kicked off his career as Celtic manager with a 1-0 loss to Gibraltar minnows Lincoln Red Imps on July 12 2016. Only James Forrest remains at the club of the 14 players utilised that day.

Thankfully, a week later the Hoops rectified the situation with first-half strikes from Mikael Lustig, Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts on their way to a 3-0 win.
