EUROCHECKER – HOW CELTIC’S EURO RIVALS GOT ON THIS WEEKEND…

CELTIC drew 2-2 at home against Hibernian on Saturday, but remain top of the SPFL Premiership going into the international break. After the great result in Brussels on Wednesday, we see how Celtic’s European rivals got on this weekend.

Next up for Celtic are the powerhouse of German football, Bayern Munich. However, this season has been more challenging for the Bavarian club after a sluggish start to the season and a 3-0 defeat to PSG in Paris saw Carlo Ancelotti sacked.

The Allianz Arena side started life without the Italian with a trip to the Olympiastadion against Hertha Berlin. Interim Willy Sagnol saw his side lead a 2-0 lead after Hummels and Lewandowski scored either side of half-time. However, there was a comeback brewing and goals from Salomon Kalou and Ondrej Duda brought the scores level.

There was also a major injury concern for the Bundesliga Champions as Frank Ribery was forced off injured, which would potentially rule him out of Celtic’s double header against Bayern this month.

Bayern Munich’s European opponents on Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Bordeaux on Saturday at the Parc des Princes. The Ligue 1 side, who are unbeaten this season scored five goals in the first-half to blow the south-west side away. Goals from Neymar (5′ & 40′ pen), Cavani (12′), Meunier (21′) and Draxler (’45) put the game beyond doubt from Bordeaux 31st minute goal from Sankhare. However, the second-half didn’t see as many goals from the free-spending Parisians but Kylian Mbappe popped up and scored in the 58th minute to make it 6-1. Although, Unai Emery’s side conceded a late penalty to Silva, which finished the game off at 6-2.

Celtic’s own midweek conquests, Anderlecht played Standard Liege in a crucial match at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Brussels. On the back of their defeat to the hands of the Hoops, Anderlecht thanked loanee Henry Onyekuru for the only goal of the game as the side ran out 1-0 victors with the goal coming in the 89th minute.
