Europe a sideshow to league duty at Fir Park

1000

A Europa League tie against Rennes on Thursday would normally set midweek pulses racing but when Celtic have such a crucial game ahead in the fight for second place Neil Lennon has a major decision to make, does he rest players for the Motherwell game?

Sunday’s game at Fir Park is set to become one of the most important games of the season for Celtic and I’m sure Neil would prefer a clear midweek to prepare for it, but resting players, with the inherent increased chance of defeat, could further damage fragile morale.

Celtic need a confidence boosting win but they need heads focussed on beating Motherwell even more. The consequences of defeat on Thursday are unpleasant, but the consequences of defeat on Sunday are incalculable.

No one can deny that this week is a make or break week for Neil Lennon. Regardless of the result though I believe we have enough evidence to give reasonable grounds to look around for a new coach.

    1) An abject failure to turn around team tactics after having at least 45 minutes of a first half for even a blind drunk to see what was wrong. Our beating at Ibrox when we shamefully let 4 goals past us is the case in point.

    2) The most bizarre substitutions and panic manoeuvres making the reshufflings of the deckchairs on the Titanic look like a spirited and material attempt at averting disaster.

    3) Publicly slating players for results that are down to his incompetence.

    4) Splits in the dressing room, probably and largely in part to the last point.

    5) Being 12 points behind in the league.

    6) Being third in the league.

    7) Cosying up to the Owner and the PLC in defending CRAP financial policy.

    8) Losing the rag and being hyper aggressive in front of the cameras.

    9) Buying dud after dud in the transfer market.

    10) Not playing Chris Commons.

This is of no doubt an unpopular list of things to list about our incumbent, nevertheless it needs to be said and said again.

    Those are the facts.

Points 5 + 6 should be enough for anyone to go.

    Sorry.

    Morning all

Off topic but a reason to be cheerful: the second season of “Forbrydelsen” starts in a couple of weeks.

I plan to spend the rest of the day thinking about Sofie Grabol and her jumper.

‘It seems that Britain (sic or should that be sick) cannot attract a suitable standard of judges because the salary is not enough. I mean how can anyone survive on a mere £172,000 a year’

Lord Hamiton’s remarks about judges’ pay relate solely to Scotland, nothing to do with Britain, the Scottish legal system being one of the three Scottish institutions to have survived the Union of Parliaments (the other two being the education system and the national religion, the Kirk).

  7. Just looking at the RTC blog and the Companies House document. Looks like the huns have sliced up the assets and assigned security for part of them to Close (asset finance) for a cash advance. What assets I’m not sure, the most liquid ones I’d imagine and the players can be ‘liquidated’ more readily than most I’d think.

I think the plan may be completely unraveling for Whyte, this is a desperate measure and surely challengeable. The Floating Charge was so old there was no way it was alienation of assets, it pre-dates the EBT, but to then vary it in favour of a new creditor has to be challengeable I’d think.

Anyway, looks like they’ll rumble on until at least January. Why on earth would he do this if it was not for that very purpose. £2m a month is it to run the place? £8m cash advance secured on the contracts of Jelavic and one or two others and you can pay HMRC the small bill, Rapid Vienna their next installment and trip into the transfer window.

Anyway, my amazement is that this all goes on pretty much without censure by the hun hoards. Can you imagine for one minute all of this was going on at Celtic Park with a shadowy figure pulling the strings. The absolute certainty is there would be a sit in/encampment at Celtic Park that would make Dale Farm look like a Brownies summer camp sausage sizzle.

I honestly believe we care more, Celtic is more than a Club for all it stands for while over there their club exists primarily as an outlet for supremacists.

Aye, the great thing is that although the victim gets it in the first episode, the flashbacks throughout the series means that she (I bet it is a she) earns more than a High Court Judge! I bet they are jealous and wish now that they had not dogged drama group.

The problem with High Court Judges is their attire. If they ditched the robes and wigs and wore woolly jumpers instead, the causes of justice would be served more, er, justly, and their earning potential would increase accordingly.

  13. With all thye rumours that are posted on here why doesn’t anyone post bthe name of Craig Whytes major backer. We all know who it is. In fact WMD, Vmha and BT discussed it before the Hibs game (I think). Go on. We slag of off our own with apparent impunity. Time to go for the shadowy money man behind Wavetower. Except he is not so shadowy being a major financial player in Glasgow’s business world.

That’s about the gist of what is happening.

So what does he sell off this month and next to cover bills.

Expect another 3 floating charges around pay day time, 26th of November a week or 2 before Christmas due to early BACS run in December due to Christmas holidays and pay Jelevic dues in November.

The more he does this, the more I believe he thinks he will win. Whether him winning benefits Rangers or not I’m not so sure but I do envisage a siege of Motherwell and a flit to Mars for the Whytes while Glasgow night club moguls dance the night away richer.

Anyways, I’m reading ‘The White War’ by Mark Thompson just now, about the fighting in WW1 between the Italians and the Austro- Hungarians.

It’s been quite revelatory; even by the low standards of WW1 the fighting in the Adige and the Adriatic coast was pretty frightful, and all driven by the Italian desire to retake what they felt was rightfully theirs.

‘I honestly believe we care more, Celtic is more than a Club for all it stands for while over there their club exists primarily as an outlet for supremacists.’

I have long held the view that most ‘good’ ‘Gers supporters (IMHO probably the majority, but not necessarily even a significant number of their dyed-in-the-wool, weekly supporters/season book holders) are uncomfortable when, in rare moments of clarity, they realise just what a wretched club they have been brought up to support.

We humans are prone to atavism, however, so this ‘uncomfortable-ness’ doesn’t stop occasional lapses; a good recent example being the scandalous singing from most of the Hun support at Hampden during the 2011 LC final.

So while being a fairly broad church these days, Celtic is a club without any of this supremacist baggage/garbage.

It’s also why Celtic (the brand) continues to be popular beyond these shores, while being up to one’s knees is not.

  23. Got a couple of puzzled remarks last night over whether my mate was called Paul or Kevin.

Paul asked me why people were referring to him as Kevin and Kevin queried why somebody called him Paul.

To explain….I have TWO pals. I am doubly blessed. One I go to the games with during the day and the other I fall over in the pub with at night. Sometimes even Pat, Tony, James, Andy, Gav, Willie, Dave and Andy M also converge on the hostelry. I tell you the jokes we have at trying to remember who we are! Had to feel sorry for that “David Deans” character last night as he was ferociously roasted even after it became apparent that he was a confused sort of soul who’d mixed up “The Fields” and “the famine song”.
