After losing the second leg against Salzburg in last season’s Champions League 3rd qualifying round, Qarabag eliminated Twente Enschede on away goals before having a good Europa League group stage.
Draws home and away to Saint Etienne, a home draw against Inter after a two goal defeat in the San Siro, and a win and a loss against Dnipro is enough form to suggest Celtic have a match on their hands.
On the positive side, Qarabag are also preseason, play on grass and Baku, their home city, is four hours ahead of Glasgow, so they will have a small jetlag adjustment to make for Wednesday’s game. The final whistle will go after 1:30 in the morning Baku time. Players find the latter part of any big game tiring, more so early in the season, so we have to push hard late in this game. Qarabag will be vulnerable as concentration wanes and legs get heavy.
This tie feels very much like the Shakhter Karagandy play-off tie two years ago. Shakhter arrived with a solid two goal lead, but an impassioned Celtic Park pushed us over the line. A similar intensity will be required on and off the field on Wednesday.
What’s our chances? Not sure, but we’ve a serious challenge on our hands.

Morning all.
Dire, weather-wise down here. There was a wee bright spot earlier. A group of young woman were going through a training exercise on the verge between the putting green and the play park. Why they weren’t in a gym I don’t know. Brave souls.
Hope we show the same spirit tomorrow. Don’t let anything get us down.
Charlie absent will cause a problem- high balls to the back post.
Charlie present will cause a problem- getting skinned for pace.
Charlie is a problem.
Charlie getting nutmegged by a tortoise could be a problem!
Kano Foundation are looking for volunteers for their collection at the league opener on Saturday. I signed up for it so if you can spare an hour before the match sign up too.

Good stuff TD

thomthethim,
Your appraisal of Charlie, sadly, is spot on. Could Lustig do a job as an emergency LB? We have plenty of options for RB.
Got back home at midnight last night and it was a seriously hot 45 C. That’s 113 in old money – at midnight.
Must have been fairly large brown envelopes that the Qataris were handing out a few years back. Not the kind of weather for playing football in.
Still it’s a peasant 26 C in Baku apparently.
That it does BT that it does :)
Just saw that news about the player being refused entry because of visa problems. That has to be wrong.
TD67 at 7.46 thanks for that …..greetin at 8.10 a new record for me.

Does he have enough time to get in via Calais?
You can get a visa in the Calton :)

#DundeeUtd to sign Liam Henderson on loan from
#Celtic
Would be good move. Can’t even make our bench in a friendly. A full season’s first team experience, with a team who try to play football, would be great for the Bhoy and the team.
Anyone know if Scott Allan’s agent ( John Viola I think) is a fan of the dark side? Think he is an old boy of St Leonard’s in Easterhouse and a Bhoy growing up. But I have noted some fairly sycophantic comments attributed to him about Rangers generally ( to include the Mint, Barry and Craig Moore) . Of course it might just be business and he has represented several Celtic players. Alternatively maybe he is a member of the Mo Jonhston/Sean Connery dyke-jumping club and certainly some of their fan sites have him marked down as one of them. If the SA deal goes through his name will feature in post- deal discussions as was the case when Elbows joined them. Mibee Viola is still a good tim but I don’t recall McMurdo feeling the need to make sycophantic comments about us.
Gary67, it’s a good move for him. Hope we’ve got a clause saying he can’t play against us :-)
Great move for the young lad, he’s in good hands at United.
Good Morning!
Breakfast is served…

28 July, 2015,
I can assure you John Viola is not one of them.
Grew up with him in Easterhouse.

Excellent start to the day.
I just can’t get enough, right enough.

What`s the story with the visa refusal?

Was fine until this morning, woke up and thought about tie and the butterflies kicked in.
Possibly most important tie of the year, win and we are guaranteed 8 more European nights.
Some people here scoff at what they call the fearties and adopt the attitude, we are the mighty Celtic we should have no fear of the diddy teams. Times have changed, just because their names don’t trip off the tongue doesn’t make them a diddy team and our recent European exploits doesn’t inspire a huge amount of confidence,
Having said that I think we’ll get through, I always do, I just wish someone would tell those bloody butterflies.
I doubt if the Italian msm would go with this headline “Seria A needs a strong Parma” naaaa it wouldent be mature. :)
Has ming managed to get a few million through customs yet …? ….must have been a right shock when he started looking closely at the books…….bless him
Disappointed at Liam going
Should get rid of the deadwood resource draining loungers before young Liam
Seriously disappointed, had high hopes for Liam
I know it’s a loan but he should be at Celtic before others
Jungle Jim Hot Smoked
One of the Quarabag players, a Brazilian lad, couldn’t complete the paperwork to have his visa application processed in time. The British Consul in Baku has been praised by the Azerbajan authorities for his help in obtaining visas for their squad so it must be a particular issue for the player involved.
Morning all, in need of a bit of help/advice. Going to the Killie away game in two weeks with my missus, boy and daughter. The boy and I are season ticket holders so can get tickets with our season ticket however cannot get another two for the missus and daughter who are not season book holders. I need two more client codes so that I can get four tickets together. Is there anyone who is not going but would be willing to let me use their code to buy the tickets? Hope this makes sense!!
I will post my email in a bit if anyone can help. HH, CB
For one reason or another, Deila doesn’t think that Henderson is ready to hold down a first team spot.
However, he is too good a prospect to be limited to cameo appearances.
Therefore, it makes sense to loan him out, especially to a club that will develope him along lines that are compatible with Celtic’s.
A good move, in my book and when/ if Johansen moves on, he should be ready to stake his claim.
TTT
I appreciate that part of it but what about the deadwood?
North Cyprus (formerly Baku) Bhoy
Yeah I met them on Saturday night, but I couldn’t stay too long. I’m playing myself tomorrow night and then I’ll go down and watch the game with them. If I can handle playing 90 mins. in the heat then Celtic can. It’s not the heat that hurts, it’s the humidity. Here’s hoping for a dry wind on the night.
I love living in the old city, it really is something else and I get dropped off at the Maidens Tower every night, but I’m way up the hill a couple of alleys east of the Italian Embassy.
We kick a ball around way up the back of the old city up by the Burc Restaurant. The kids are a good laugh and they do play with jumpers and a burst ball; brings back memories.
