European football disinformation

657

I’m hoping suggestions Stefan Scepovic and Kris Commons are struggling for fitness for Thursday is a classic attempt at European football disinformation.

Back in July I wrote about Commons “dependence on one creative talent feels like an unnecessary vulnerability”.  We remain (unnecessarily) dependent on our only creative talent, as subsequent games without him have established.  If he’s not in the starting line-up, we’ll need a radical change of system.

Bringing a second creative talent to the club should be a priority.  On this subject, I hear Bosnian fulcrum, Semir Stilic, who we were reportedly interested in a few years ago, before he detoured for a indifferent spell in Turkey, is now back in Poland with Wisla Krakow and eclipsing his earlier form for Lech Poznan.  We could do worse.

Shocked and stunned at the news Rangers International’s nomad, Daniel Stewart Securities PLC, have had trading in their shares suspended by the Stock Exchange as they were unable to file their accounts to year-end 31 March 2014 on time.  The Ibrox club’s board will be incredulous that the diligence they carried out to ensure they were dealing with an advisor of standing overlooked some fundamentals.

Four days out from the Great Scottish Run, which I’m doing for the Foundation’s work for Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty.  This is our Foundation, established and run by Celtic fans for 19 years.  It’s an important part of the story of where our club came from and what’s important to our mission.  Any donations here, from £1 up, are welcome.

Thanks to everyone who has helped.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon warned his players about losing their domestic focus following their first defeat of the season.

Lennon’s side warmed up for their Champions League opener with a 2-1 defeat by St Johnstone in Perth.

That’s one point out of six in the last two league games. It’s not acceptable

    Neil Lennon

    Celtic manager

“I think some players are not concentrating on what they should be doing and thinking about the Champions League,” said Lennon.

“Some players never turned up. They need to buck up their ideas.”

Kris Commons fired Celtic in front and had a penalty claim turned down after Gregory Tade’s equaliser.

“I haven’t seen it again but from, where I was, it’s a penalty and a sending off,” Lennon said of Steven Anderson’s challenge.

Rowan Vine fired an 80th-minute winner for Saints and though Lennon was critical of his players’ attitude, he insists his players are not taking getting carried away with their status as overwhelming Scottish Premier League title favourites.

“I don’t detect that among the players,” he told BBC Radio Scotland.

“What I detected was a listlessness, we looked leggy at times and there was no real urgency about our play.

“We did create some chances but we weren’t sharp enough to finish them off and defensively, at times, we looked poor; not committed enough to challenges, letting people run off us.

“We got off to a great start and never capitalised on it. We probably thought after we scored that it was going to be easy and games are never easy.

“We looked like strangers at time and some of my main, consistent performers were very, very poor.

“I’m not going to answer any more questions on Champions League games before SPL games because I just think it’s festering into the players and they look like they took their eye off the ball.

“That’s one point out of six in the last two league games. It’s not acceptable and that performance wasn’t acceptable.”

Celtic host Benfica on Wednesday and Lennon urged his side to improve.

“We need to get back on the horse very quickly,” he added.

“There’ll be a full house and I’m expecting a big performance from them.

“Today’s performances was needless and unacceptable and I’m very, very disappointed with them for the first time in a long time.”

  11. Still seeking advice…..

I have c&p this from the club website-

‘Only those supporters registered with the Ticket Office by 28th August will be able to purchase a ticket online or via booking line on 0871 226 1888* Booking fees apply online/via booking line.

New customers should call 0141 230 1967 (booking fees apply) or visit the Ticket Office to purchase tickets.’

I am not a registered supporter and i assume the 0141 230 1967 number is for the ticket office which is only open until 5pm.

I cannot get to Paradise until about 7.30pm so it will be closed by then.

Does anyone know if it is possible for me to buy a ticket online and print it out despite not being registered?

I do not want to purchase a ticket that i cannot print or get to the ticket office to collect.

Not sure how i can do this?

1930 might be OK as it’s a 2005 kick off.

Paying for it and collecting will be almost as long as just turning up but you will at least be able to pick your seat and guarantee you will get one.

I’ve never done the print at home thingy but sounds best if available.

It was 8 out of 9.

His league only record at the start was right good.

  24. Re Michael Stewart, from what I’ve seen of him talking on TV, he seems to give an objective opinion and talks sense. On the talking sense front, I’ve noticed a difference in some of Hugh Keevins comments since he ‘retired’, e.g. Said tonight that “Rangers made a mockery of liquidation” in that they continued to spend beyond their means.

Tomorrow, I hope that Ronny goes with the right formation with a solid midfield and a front two pairing rather than one and two,’wingers’.

  25. Geordie Munro
