European games sap mind and body

149

It transpired that the only team in Celtic’s Europa League group who avoided defeat in their domestic league game last weekend was Lazio, who rested several players in Europe and earned a point at Bologna.

Cluj lost at nearest rivals, Viitorul, Rennes lost at home to Stade Reims, while Celtic went down at Livingston.  No excuse for a poor performance, but these European games sap mind and body.

I can’t stand the pyro boys too and don’t agree with the ‘daftboyishness’ defence put forward on here a few times. It is organised

Interestingly though, we seem to get away with regular small fines for this kind of thing whereas the Huns have to close sections for their singing

UEFA clearly don’t see us as bad as them !

Having recently just returned to the US from a trip home to the front lines of Southern Ayrshire, I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed to find, that in fact, the “Old Firm” is alive and well.

Tims being manipulated by the media, whipped up into various emotional states. Tims in bars openly discussing the hun’s squad and potential. And this despite all the assurances since Valentines Day 2012 from those “in the know” that they’ll never be back, never have a grip on Scottish football again. Refereeing decisions anyone?

“Despite our historic treble treble, the huns seem to be in a defiantly robust state to me, soft loans notwithstanding. They are in a shambles, no doubt, but here they are, trumpeting their own particular brand of hatred, while thinking they have won the league- in October”

Not only hunan think they have won in it October but many confused Tim’s seem to share that sentiment.

    Crazy shoite

  3. Has there ever been a team that features regularly in UEFA competions that hasn’t been charged by them ?

  4. ‘big’ jimmy.

Just read back on your retort to Big Packy’ post of 7 Oct. 7.12pm. A totally and utterly harmless post. Your reply on the other hand was disgraceful. If he is a drama queen, words fail me to describe your pathetic attitude. I have been informed from elsewhere about your ‘perfect’ attendance at Celtic Park.

Your post is typical of why people are leaving here in droves. You proud of yourself? Do you think you are funny? You are about as funny as a wheel going round. Pathetic.

Read your post and thought it sounded a bit harsh….

Then I read back and you are infact 100% correct.

No need for that kind of talk on this or any other forum.

Celtic fans should never talk to each other like that.

  6. Coneybhoy- how many fines, before a stand gets closed? Lots of clubs get fined for similar, but we need to get our own house in order ,or UEFA will do it for us. HH

I’m with you but the only solution is full searches in the standing section to remove banners and fireworks. As opposed to shunting the guys out(previous solution as Adi Dassler points out)

I walked into the jungle earlier in the season with my man bag without a glance

  8. I would like to know why fans need to use them….genuine…ask them why.

Does it help motivate the team ?. Does it enhance the atmosphere ?

And why does it only happen in one part of our stadium ?

    Reason ?

We’re going to need airport type security checks

I’ll drive them to the airport (for the security checks) myself . :_))

  10. ADI DASSLER-I honestly thought sitting in the LL end that it added to the atmosphere

    GLENDALYSTONSILS-VG 😂👏

  11. I watch the games from the North Curve. What I didn’t realise until the Cluj game was that the front section of the ‘cheese triangle’ where the Green Brigade congregate have different coloured tickets to those of us in the upper part. And how I found this out was that when we approached the turnstiles last Thursday (there are 4 of them and generally you can go in any) we were asked to show our season ticket and then, depending on the colour we were directed to 2 particulr turnstiles – so those in the back half were directed to 2 of the turnstiles and those with the front part coloured tickets had to go in the other 2, but only AFTER being searched. Well, I say searched but really just a wee pat down. Clearly, these searches are just going through the motions. Or, if I’m more cynical, maybe the fireworks were taken in my those in the back section (that weren’t searched) then passed over once inside the stadium?

Also, please be careful not to generalise the whole of ths standing section as being The Green Brigade. The standing section houses, I think, 2,800 fans but I understand the Green Brigade’s membership is around 300 – 400.

I can’t remember the game(s) that our Club took the decision to ban the GB for a game or 2. But I do remember that it was only those in the front half that were affected by that.

    Oh, good evening, friends ;-)

I can believe it. There is no doubt they motivate & create the atmosphere & the tifos (in the main for me) are brill but when they know what they should avoid…..???

  13. Jobo baldie-I can’t remember the team we played without them either, but I can remember it was quite.Maybe there being allowed in with the sparklers (because that’s what they were last week) to give them enough rope to hang them selves 🤔

  14. ADI_DASSLER- absolutely agree and canny lie either,my dad wasn’t to pleased with the display

Another UEFA charge for fireworks at Cluj game, sick of these pricks

Bada, have to say I view it differently. Love the energy The Green Brigade bring to Celtic Park, well worth the routine €10-20k fine that invariably follows any show of identity, passion or politics.

It is a game, pay to play! Name me a club, with any soul, who doesn’t get fined by UEFA on a regular basis for an off message banner or pyros? Take it away and you are left with Arsenal.

Important to differentiate between Pyros and Banners versus Racism , we certainly shouldn’t be using the charlatans at UEFA as our moral compass.

  16. SLOYEYBHOY-the Huns got fined £6000 roughly last season for questioning that ref from Sunday and didn’t have to worry about him again until it was irrelevant. We have worse to worry about regarding getting a slap on the wrist for sparklers

  20. MARSPAPA-aw so you’re back😉

Santa Claus isny real, and there isn’t an Easter bunny, and you can forget about the tooth fairy 😉

  21. James Forrest was so invisible the ref missed him getting fouled in the box for a penalty.

I thought he played as well as anyone.

  22. Celtic by numbers has blown a lot of the excuses apart.

I thought at the time that the 2 matters which resulted in the poor performance was:

    1. The Agricultural application of Livingston and

    2. The refereeing of Collum

Livingston players were very physical and made contact with Celtic players right from the start, no contact was avoided every tackle had a follow through. As it became obvious Collum was allowing this then they continued the tactic. Even when Eduoard and Julien tried to give a little back then they were penalised. It was obvious that Livi players were playing to different rules.

Holt knew his players weren’t as good as Celtic but if the game was broken up into lots of short passages by the continual fouling, free kicks. throw ins, bye kicks and corners. Colum was only to happy to comply. The fact is that Collum often plays the “look at Me” game and he is in Charge. The amount of verbal contact with players was huge. Every stoppage had Collum running in and talking to the players. Collum was on Camera longer than any player and nearly visible the whole game.

Collum gave us nothing all day and gave everything one way. This resulted in Celtic players showing dissent on several occasions and then the unfairness of the partisan refereeing resulted in them feeling sorry for themselves.

The new players Bauer, Julien, Boligoli, Elanoussi, Bayo were shocked and even Ajer lost his cool and got booked for mouthing at Collum.

We need to learn from this and the new players have a clear example of MIB tactics in the future. It’s not always a level playing field especially on Plastic

  23. My friends in Celtic,

As stated at the time : I thought the GB display allied with our light show was magnificent and set the tone for a memorable night. However I knew there would be consequences as its their rules.

Many of us broke the law that night. Beeping the car horn, parking on double yellow lines, eating or drinking behind the wheel, maybe throwing the wrappers out the window.

We were possibly in a rush and broke the speed limit heading to the game while listening to illegally downloaded music.

Maybe we didn’t take the car and had a right few drinks prior to entering the ground.

Possibly we took the dog out for a walk beforehand and forgot the disposal bag. We maybe indulged in a harmless smoke in a public area. ( both legal and illegal type of smoke )

Possibly We even gave our youngsters a few drinks while watching the game while planning our next trip abroad during school hours.

In summary many of us broke the rules that night.

Nothing I have stated mitigates the use of flares or sparklers, but every round of Eufa games results in charges to a significant amount of the participants.

It’s not exactly crime of the century and UEFA are known to care more about money than morals.

Nobody should break rules or the law, from the highest government figures to ordinary citizens However in the real world we know that is impractical.

Are iconic displays used on memorabilia worth a fine ?

    I am undecided.

    HH to all.

PS : No answers to my previous question, How many regular participants in Eufa competition have not been charged by them ?

  24. Marspapa-it was good,but I was absolutely pish,and I ended up back in the well 😉

To answer your question,I think every team has had their wrist slapped at some stage.

We haven’t had any part of our stadium shut down yet,I don’t think 😉
