EVERGREEN CELT’S 17 IN A ROW

JAMES FORREST left it late last season to maintain his sequence of scoring in every term in sixteen years.

Celtic’s evergreen winger popped up in the fading moments of the final Premiership game of the campaign to fire in the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with St Mirren at Parkhead on May 17.

Forrest, 34, who has picked up a record 26 major honours at the Hoops, made it 17 in a row when he slotted in the champions’ third goal in the hard-fought 3-1 triumph over Aberdeen at the same venue yesterday.

The hosts had missed a sequence of chances, had struck woodwork three times and had seen Dons keeper Dimitar Mitov pull off a string of spectacular saves with the encounter heading for a 1-1 stalemate – until the 88th minute.

SEVENTEEN IN A ROW…James Forrest prepares to sidefoot in Celtic’s third goal against Aberdeen after a perfect pass from Callum McGregor (extreme right).

Kieran Tierney headed in the second goal after Benjamin Nygren had claimed the opener in the first-half which had been nullified by a 74th-minute strike from the Dons’ Kenan Bilalovic.

Two minutes into added-on time, Forrest struck when he tucked away a neat left-wing cross from Callum McGregor.

A beaming wing veteran, speaking to Celtic TV afterwards, said: “To play at this club for such a long time has been unbelievable and I’ve enjoyed every minute.

“It’s great to help the lads and keep going. I think that all the boys showed character on this occasion.

“Hopefully, we can kick on from here.”

Up next for Wilfried Nancy’s Bhoys is an encounter with Livingston in West Lothian on Saturday.
