  1. I am beginning to think that all those penalties we don’t get in the SPL……

    Are a blessing in disguise…

  2. GREENPINATA

    Tom McLaughlin,

If you are still about. You were correct in your viewing strategy.

I stayed up with a cargo, watched most of it with one eye open and I’m now knackered, half cut with a mad sore head .

And I’m got Mrs GP moaning about me drinking at this time of the morning.

Nomatter what she says, I think I’m a good singer

Thanks for that. Really made me laugh and cheered me up.

I got up at 3am and opened a bottle of wine.

As soon as the final whistle blew I switched off the TV, cleared my shit and went to bed. Before attempting sleep, I had a quick glance through CQN and noticed comments like…

    GG misses another penalty

    1-0 Everton

    2-0 Everton

I thought, wtf? Have I crawled into a parallel universe?

After another 2 or 3 comments, the penny dropped. It’s a penalty shoot-out. Well wha’dya know?

I got up at 12 noon, ate some of my own homemade chilli and opened a can of Holsten.

“Drinking at this time?” she said with a tut tut embedded in her tone.

“It’s 20 past 12 in the afternoon. The pubs are open,” I replied. “Anyway, there’s no ginger.”

    “There’s plenty of water.”

    No answer to that.

  3. ANERICA AND CNADA IN THE SUMMER –

    —————-

“We were just missing a goal and we missed some great chances and their keeper pulled off some good saves. I think that was much more like us in terms of our general play and laying out football. I was just disappointed there weren’t any goals for the supporters but in terms of our performance, I was happy.”

Postecoglou admitted he’s relished taking Celtic on tour in his homeland – and hinted there could be more trips further afield in the future after their clash with Everton Down Under. He said: “I am not really the sentimental type. We got the job done here with Australia and it was a great night. You kind of move on from those things and always look ahead. It has been great to be back home and just brilliant to see the support we have had.

Not me personally but the football club and walking the streets of Sydney and just seeing Celtic shirts everywhere is just brilliant to see. We know the enormity of the football club but the distance doesn’t diminish the passion and the supporters are just as passionate here watching the team play.

“This is the third time now that the club has been here in the near/distant past. The club realises that its reach is global and in every part of the world there are Celtic supporters. You have got to share the love around and we may go to other areas first.”

  4. why GG was allowed to take another pen after his previous horror shows beggars believe, if he has to think prior to shooting he is hopeless.

We have assembled a group of players that can win the SPL but that’s about it and I suppose for most that is enough but we are miles off the pace when it comes to finishing and defending at a higher level.

We defo require a proper goalscorer and 2 or 3 defenders with strength and pace that can play within our style .

  5. we need the players we have to take more of the chances they are given.

big geo is a star in the making.

  6. Weebobbycollins on

Giamoumakis will never be a star in a Celtic team. He may well score an important goal or two as he has done in the past but he will never reach the heights of a true great.

    Again, just my opinion…

  7. and is that how we are to judge players now ? true greats ?

for all the celtic dominance these past 25 years, how many true greats did we have ?

    unfair comparisons i would say.

when i watch gei i see a player giving all the effort and making a contribution.

    he scores important goals.

  8. Saint Stivs

Agree with you entirely,I believe he should be given the starting position more often ,to show his true worth.

I like Koyoko but I think if Gia was given his opportunities he would score more.

And I fully understand they are two different types of players HH

  9. No point practising penalties though is there?

Or so the soi-disant experts on here would have you believe.

  10. bigrailroadblues on

Good afternoon all from stormy Blackpool. I maybe stuck in the pub for hours, have some sympathy for the devil. That’s Mrs BRRB. 😂😂

  11. ernie

Of course the players practice pens.

It’s common practice at every club- ours is no exception.

    Surely, you know that

I can’t recall any “expert”, whether sir-disant, appointed or reluctant, saying that there was no point in practicing penalties.

Some may have said that you can never recreate the pressure, at training, of taking a competitive penalty.

But it takes a lot of twisting to turn that into there’s no point in practising

  12. A few saying that we need a new striker. Which I agree with.

Our 2 at present, miss far too many one on one’s.

I’m sure our super recruitment guy will have someone lined up for January

  13. As a PR exercise, this was a disaster as in a global sense we never won a game.

Sydney, very average,Everton many missing,a scratch team,we should have put them and the inflated English League attitude to bed.

Those fans in Australia will.get this cast up for years, hence my opinion this was a disaster, trying to consolidate our reputation you don’t damage it for money.

    Dissapointed.

  14. agree re GG is never a goalscorer , would let him move on once our top scouts find a replacement and don’t let him anywhere near the ball if we get any pens, that’s what should have happened after his last pitiful effort.

  15. Caught the last half hour and watched some highlights. I thought the bhoys played exceptionally well. The wind and playing surface looked like it was making things very difficult. Unlucky not to win. Everton were poor. Agree with the general sentiment that a new centre forward is needed.

  16. Just finished watching the game.

The EPL? The best league in the world?

Mibbes aye, mibbes naw but Everton are a poor team (IMO).

  17. lets all do the huddle on

    “As a PR exercise,this was a disaster”

“Those fans in Australia will.get this cast up for years”

    ——

    😄😄😄😄

    what a tool

  18. My God we have two ctrickers who were brilliant last year and are going through a bit of a tough time they don’t become poor overnight i would be more concerned if we were not creating chances.Give them a break.

  19. I enjoyed the game thought we played well ok didn’t score. The fans looked to be having a greater. Some people are never happy.Roll on 17th December.

  20. For those who don’t understand the joy brought when a Celtic team tours, here is my post from just before the game.

    GG on 20TH NOVEMBER 2022 2:28 AM

There was a load of angst because we lost in Sydney and I’ve no doubt there will be a similar reaction if we lose to Everton later tonight / tomorrow.

There was a some expression of sympathy for the Aussie supporters, seeing their team defeated.

Believe me, there is no need to feel bad for the local support.

As an expat I remember with great affection a 14 hour round trip to Cleveland where we actually won against a South American side whose name has slipped my ancient memory. I do remember Chris Sutton scored, I think. The score was meaningless. We were all there to celebrate being Celtic fans and identifying with the other fans from all around the States.

Similarly with a trip to Hartford, a couple of memorable games tailgating in Philly and Giants stadium, where we were sharing beers and burgers with fans we had never met before, simply because they wore the hoops.

It’s not the score that matters. It’s the feeling of togetherness and solidarity with fellow Tims, to celebrate our common love and identity in a far broader gathering than we normally attend.

So no matter the outcome, let us all celebrate for our faithful fans down under.

    ‘GG

  21. Weebobbycollins on

Fifa cheating already. Can’t have the hosts losing a goal so early. More cheating to come…

  22. Do we really think the whole squad should be practicing penalties so we can win a shoot out in a meaningless friendly in Australia?
