Every ounce of energy and backing required

257

Thoughts of strikers we might have in the future should be nowhere near minds as we prepare to take on Dundee United at Celtic Park tomorrow.  If it’s Johnny Kenny up front, back him.  Same goes for Shin, Daizen or even Benjamin Nygren (don’t mock me, he knows where the goal is better than anyone in the squad).

The return of Martin has expectations sailing higher than they have been since his departure last month (it feels longer, right?), but there are reasons to be cautious.  United bossed the same Celtic squad three weeks ago and have already taken a draw at Tynecastle and Ibrox this season. Anything less than 100% from the champions and they will do so again.

This game is reminiscent of that pivotal match against United four years ago this month.  With the score at 0-0 and Celtic down to 10 men, Liel Abada scored a 90th minute winner to give us the chance to go top of the table next time out.  That Celtic team is one we all remember fondly.  They built the platform for the subsequent trophy haul, but even they needed to squeeze every ounce of energy and backing to get the result.

The same tomorrow, please.

  1. THE EXILED TIM on 9th January 2026 6:14 pm

A couple of days ago MoN said that wee Shaun had been working behind the scenes looking at players, I think it was his first presser, not sure, now again I may be wrong but I was under the impression that when Wilf came in Shaun left, again I could be wrong, but if he didn’t infact leave, why was he looking at players ?

    Definition of a total shambles

    ____

Shaun went back to his role as pathway manager. He’s only been looking since him and Martin came back, when he realised we had heehaw list to come in early January. Shambolic doesn’t do it justice.

  2. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game under MON and especially not seeing a back 3 of Trusty, Ralston and Tierney looking lost.

  3. How the hell can Sevco afford all these new signings….fees & salaries? …….how is it possible without breaking the FFPFSR FFS rules n regs…..thank god we don’t sign players….

  4. Expect a few loan players, who aren’t getting a game but want to force their way into world cup squads.

  5. Good evening from a very cold Vale park for the FA cup tie against Fleetwood. First game for our new manager who hasn’t won a up tie for over 3 years – what could go wrong.

I wouldn’t like to be in the padded seats if we lose tomorrow HH

    Plenty of free Mars bars….

  7. I think there are two ways of looking at the lack of signings: the first is that the targets Nancy had specified to make his system work (steady…..) have been binned or Martin has been allowed to view the scouting reports and videos of performances to see if those players can fit the new system.

The second is that there are no targets identified and the Board will enact their now customary list of “January” excuses which is slightly different from their summer excuses.

The glaring gap in our forward line isn’t going to fix itself and was evident, indeed made worse by the Board’s own actions by the sale of Idah, at the end of the summer window. After the calamitous four week period of Nancy’s reign the signing of a centre forward is all the more acute.

Hopefully this highlights yet again how substandard our recruitment processes are and actions are taken to rectify these issues.

There are currently no easy fixtures for Celtic, confidence is very low and it would be helped by a few new recruits to assist in the second half of the season.

    1003 @ 6.46 – aye, they supposedly spent a net £20m in the summer.

Guessing their January signings will take them north of £30m over 2 windows 🤔

I was shocked when I read a couple of weeks ago that any even moderately large signing needs formal Board

Member sign off. Ludicrous. The Board should sign off on aggregate spend and let the executives do their job.

Domenic McKay just interviewed on the tele box there.

Didn’t know he was running the rugby equivalent of the Champions League.

He sounded quite posh. I wonder what school he went to?

Would rather wait till the necessary changes have been made in summer before we ‘buy ‘ any players. Whoever did it in the last window didn’t do it very well, and shouldn’t be trusted.

Loan deals selected by MON ‘ n Shaun, recruitment team requires root branch treatment with a new HFO to work with the next permanent manager.

Re, your post earlier about Kaio Jorge,I agree.I have known about him for a while.Turkish Sports Media,on a different planet from Scotland, and he has been a brilliant prospect, and now the finished article.Had a rough time at Juventus, couple of injuries, now fully fit, unstoppable. Not sure if your valuation would be accurate, although with Brazillian clubs you never know.Skint or rich.Worth an enquiry.Guy at Brentford running riot.

Anyway, your thinking out the box is what our club sadly lack.Brilliant spot.

2 years ago we were sniffing about Bristol looking at Semenyo.Think they wanted,£10 million,we were lowballing around 6.Look how that ended.

Those who stand against the club’s rise are not merely opponents, they are obstacles.

Obstacles must / will always be removed.

2 games into the transfer window – no striker and you lot wanted one – you’re not getting one – suck it up

just behave – do as you’re told and unite (tho not all of you – just some of you)

getting more feckin arrogant, duplicitous and deluded by the week

surely nobody in planet football can be this incompetent

the board and their supporters are surpassing themselves when nobody thought that was possible any more

wonder if mon will eventually tell them to GTF too – i doubt that he’d happily be just a “human shield”

there will be 6 empty seats where some of my family sit tomorrow.

(they wont let anyone else have them either)

I’ll drive another couple over to the stadium – soon to renamed the Parkhead Library

  18. What’s this I hear going all around Town?

Bout the Celtic not signing strikers.. Did Brendan no sign Kelechi Iheanacho for that very role, shortly after signing off the sale of a forward who had scored around around 30 goals in a season and a half? Or was that another Brendan? One planning his getaway on a magic carpet. Course maybe Kelechi will come good, maybe one day he’ll be able to catch the No. 64 bus to Auchenshuggle without pulling up….

    Maybe one day…..someday….

  19. Two weeks. After tomorrow we have Falkirk away,SC,Bologna, away,Hearts away.

Looking to sell before they buy.C,Mon,you know its the way they work.

  20. spikeysauldman on

kyogo gone, idah gone, kelechi (hamstring gone) – you’re right celtic mac – all this shyte about not signing strikers is just that – how could i be so wrong – BR really hoodwinked me there – is he still here – i’m not sure anymore

  21. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on

Signing strikers on a free the day after the window shut. . … . . .

One of the core jobs of a football board, especially with significant funds, is to ensure the squad is adequately prepared for the season. Failing to secure a necessary position during a months-long, pre-planned window is a fundamental failure of duty.

The people in these positions must be removed as it shows a reckless disregard for the club’s competitive prospects. This is Gross mismanagement.

There is no point in pruning the branches when the poison is in the roots.
