Evidence is clear: Celtic are back

272

The evidence is clear: we’ve got our Celtic back.  The football on Saturday was better than at any point this season.  Four goals scored told only part of the story.  Odsonne Edouard alone hit the post three times, while Callum McGregor struck the crossbar and Scott Sinclair hit the post with the keeper out of his goal.

Faculties that were so elusive a few weeks ago, like passing and movement, were a joy.  Tom Rogic deserved his Man of the Match award, while Odsonne is back looking ominously difficult to play.  The loss of Scott Brown to injury was a worry, while his replacement, Scott Sinclair continues to struggle to recapture past form.  If you were within a mile of Celtic Park, you may also have heard me when Mikael Lustig was out-muscled for Hibs second goal.

Hibs looked a shadow of the team we expected in the first half.  Anyone who comes to Celtic Park with more lofty intentions than simply defending their 18-yard box had better be on form.  They objectively improved in the second half, but that would have been different if the woodwork did not come to their rescue so often.

I’m not going to tell you I’m confident about Leipzig, but I am looking forward to Murrayfield on Sunday.  We look ready to defend our treble.

  1. Could anyone give me some travelling advice? Travelling over from Ireland for a midweek match in December with my 8 year-old for his first ever game. We’re staying the night but wondering how best to get back into city centre after the match, don’t want to risk walking with him when its dark and we don’t know the way. If we are happy to wait a while are there taxis or buses we can get from the ground, or can we stay somewhere near the ground?

Thank you for the testamonial, BSR can speak for himself.

The most recent comment I heard from Brendan, post the clear the air talks, was that the/a reason players who were wanted didn’t come in was due to players not moving on.

That sounds perfectly plausible to me.

He had a budget, which I presume had a cash ceiling, which would be augmented by freeing up existing wages.

Money was spent, on Eduoard and Forrest and Rogic contract extensions.

Neither Brendan or the club could control the moving on of players considered surplus to requirements.

Disappointment must have been felt throughout the club.

I liken it to a house purchase chain, where perhaps two or three transactions are pending.

However, it only takes one deal not to complete for the other moves not to happen.

Very, very few managers will publicly state that they are entirely happy with transfer dealings.

I don’t wish to rehash an old argument, so I’ll let it go….for now!

    Hugh Dallas & Sons Ltd

The following press releases are from Greg Mailer in his capacity as the SFA’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications:

    Thursday 26 July 2018

Andrew Dallas will be the Fourth Official in today’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship Semi-Final between Italy and France.

    Tuesday 31 July 2018

Andrew Dallas is in Champions League action this week as he and a team of Scottish officials oversee the meeting of Malmo and CFR Cluj tomorrow in the UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round Second Leg.

It’s evident that good news apropos Andrew Dallas comes like his penalty awards in twos. The SFA’s Referee’s Pathway Programme is instructive. Dallas has climbed up eight rungs of a greasy pole to tier 1 and UEFA accreditation. It’s onward and upward for the son of an individual who was renowned for subverting games in his Pope Paedophilic Pomp. Hugh Dallas when confronted with incontrovertible evidence of his abuse of the SFA’s intranet pointed a gun to Regan’s head. If the former discredited SFA CEO had been prepared to look the other way, Dallas would have called off a referee strike. A strike that Hugh Dallas himself fomented as a response to a video diary of cheating that had been compiled by Celtic.

It is my contention that Andrew Dallas is the fruit of a poisoned tree. If the bigotry that existed at a former club from 1872 to 1989 could be incorporated, what better title than Hugh Dallas & Sons Ltd. What better brand recognition for Scotland’s shame?

Prior to yesterday’s game at a ground that has long celebrated the name of the estimable stakeholder of both opposing clubs, Douglas Park, I compared it to an American Civil War reenactment. I contended that the result was preordained. My logic was simple to follow. Given that Gerrard’s charges have been struggling away from home and were desperate to achieve all three points, and that Andrew Dallas was in charge, I put two and two together and arrived at the eighty-four minutes it took for Dallas to subvert this game.

This game was a tale of three penalties. One denied to Hamilton. Two awarded to ‘Rangers’ to ensure that Andrew and his father would be the toast of their Masonic lodge.

Dallas is a clever cheat. The ‘hand ball’ could have been just as easily overlooked had it not been for the prosaic fact that Gerrard needed the points. The dive by Morelos was far from unexpected. It is my considered opinion that Gerrard and McAllister are either coaching or encouraging their players to dive in the box. A yellow card for simulation is not a deterrent. A penalty award that Tavernier will score with unerring accuracy is worth the risk, particularly in a game officiated by an individual with Ibrox leanings where the threat of a caution is minimal.

Andrew Dallas has previous. In a game at Ibrox where Stranraer were the visitors he awarded a penalty to the team of his wet dreams when Nicky Clark lost his balance as he shanked his shot over the bar. There was no claim for a penalty. The players were retreating in anticipation of a goal kick. Dallas to everyone’s amazement pointed to the spot. McCulloch converted the penalty. It was cheating of the first order. Did Dallas cynically calculate that any recriminations from a small club would be muted by a compliant SMSM?

Andrew Dallas has evidently been schooled in the dark arts by his father. Kenny Shiels was sent to the stand at the insistence of fourth official Dallas. Shiels was duly charged with misconduct. Dallas alleged that Shiels had made four disparaging statements in his contemporaneous account to the referee.

The exchanges between Shiels and Dallas were picked up on the former’s laptop camera. As one has come to expect this video diary was ruled to be inconclusive. Shiels was banned for four matches for having the audacity to accuse Dallas of fabricating evidence.

Andrew Dallas is untouchable. If any manager chose to challenge him he would have to be accompanied by a credible witness.

In conclusion I contend that Dallas will do his utmost to ensure that Gerrard clutches silverware this season and accrues sufficient points for UEFA participation.

Ceteris paribus Dallas will subvert the Scottish game for another ten seasons prior to joining the referee’s committee to add the finishing touches to his legacy.

I hope someone can offer you some sound information.

I have been in your situation a couple of times.

Once for an afternoon game and once for a night game.

Unfortunately, getting back to town after the game was a problem.

For the afternoon one, we walk up to Parkhead Cross and phoned a taxi. It never came, but we stopped one that passed after about half an hour.

The second time was the night game. Was with my daughter and nothing for it than to walk back to Queen St. Station.

I was just about fit enough then. Couldn’t do it now.

The walk back was safe enough, due to the volume of fans walking. But the nearer we got to town, the crowd thinned out and by the time we got to Glasgow Cross, we were on our own.

For no reason, I felt vulnerable, as it was well after ten o’ clock.

What I’m really trying to say is, try and secure a lift back to town before you just head off.

  10. Blantyretim & Thomthethim, thanks for the advice. Not worth the risk of walking alone so I’ll either take the bus option or get talking to people on the night try to leave with a group.

With re doubled regard for your comments and opinions.

Only a fool would try to ‘defend’ the Celtic summer transfer window so here goes,

I’m interested in the cliché ‘wasn’t backed by the board’ that clearly coincided with Brendan’s public petted lip in summer just like every other Celtic fan. The cynics concluded instantaneously on the internet at least, that the Celtic dominance was over, and the end was nigh, and here comes endless stories in SMSM about our managers inevitable departure.

This despite Brendan’s further public comments that we move onwards and, upwards, and his obvious on-going affiliation with the club and the job in hand, none of the summer window affects the gate money, it didn’t even affect his decision to turn down the Chinese mega bid?.

Specifically, with respect the ‘right back story’ remains speculation IMHO newspaper fuelled, and made folklore or fact online, I’m not convinced that the plan wasn’t Mikael Lustig fresh back from the World Cup end of story, no spend here.

John McGinn, we learned that Brendan Rodgers would have paid more than the Celtic budget allowed end of story, no speculation there just petted lip.

Filip Benkovic we’d tried to sign two years before and succeeded on loan

Are we to spend outwith the transfer budget drawn by MacKay and Lawwell in order to satisfy the current manager?

‘The board’ we are told were willing to sell Dedryk Boyata but Brendan Rodgers made the call, he wanted to keep Boyata which was fanciful thinking judging by how clear the player made it he wanted to leave, a bit like Dembele on the training ground ending.

Lack of targets in summer is a bigger worry than alleged failure, almost with the first round of games over its clear that some cynisism was merited, but never convinced its all the boards fault for ‘ not backing the manager ‘ more likely its millionaires disagreeing how to, how much to, or when to sell players, or spend Celtic supporters clean hard earned money.

Celtic have bought more players than both Rainjurz and Sevco, we develop few and I look forward to more jam in January, when we’ll no doubt outspend again every other Scottish club including any variation of every Rainjurz FC.

However I would be cautious of thinking we are the real deal just yet. You learn more in adversity. And with that R.B Leipzig will represent a proper challenge. One which may yet again illustrate our weaknesses.

Still require better pace in the right back area.

And with all due respect to the guy, Scott Sinclair should not be anywhere near our first 11.
