EX-CELT BONE, 75, PASSES AWAY

JOCK STEIN paid £25,000 to Sheffield United for Jimmy Bone in 1974 as he looked to add power to his frontline.

The energetic Scotland international striker had demonstrated what he could do in his days with Partick Thistle.

It was Bone who steered in one of the Firhill side’s four efforts past the astonished Evan Williams in Celtic’s astounding 4-1 collapse in the 1971 League Cup Final at Hampden, one of football’s all-time shock results.

Unfortunately, the strong-running attack-leader could not reproduce that form in the green and white hoops and netted only one goal – in a 2-1 home league win over Dunfermline in December 1974 – in his seven appearances for the club.

He moved to Arbroath after just one season at Parkhead.

ON THE RUN…Jimmy Bone in one of his rare Celtic appearances.

The much-travelled Bone also played for Norwich City, St Mirren, Toronto Blizzard, Hong Kong Rangers and Hearts.

He also earned two caps for Scotland, scoring in a 4-1 World Cup qualifying win away to Denmark in 1974.

Bone had a stint as player/coach at Gayfield before going on to manage Airdrie, St Mirren, East Fife and Stenhousemuir on the home front as well as Power Dynamos in Zambia and Wits University in South Africa.
He had a stint as caretaker boss at Partick Thistle and assistant roles at Ross County and Chester City.
Jimmy Bone has passed away at the age of 75.
All at CQN and Celtic fans everywhere send their condolences to Bone’s family and friends.
