EX-CELT JOINS CUP HEROES

FORMER Celtic defender Efe Ambrose has joined St Johnstone and is poised to make his debut against Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side in Perth this afternoon.

The 32-year-old Nigerian international has been a free agent since leaving Livingston at the end of last season. He spent 18 months at the West Lothian club before deciding to move on, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

Callum Davidson, who led the Perth side to a double Hampden success in the Scottish Cup and Betfred League Cup last term, swooped for the versatile back-four operator following the loss of skipper Jason Kerr to Wigan on deadline day.

Ambrose went straight into the squad and, depending on fitness levels, could figure at some stage in the 12.30pm kick-off.

Neil Lennon bought the often erratic defender to Parkhead from Israeli outfit Ashdod in a £750,000 switch in 2012 before they teamed up again at Hibs five years later.
