FORMER Celt Harry Kewell has been sacked by Yokohama F Marinos – after just SEVEN months in charge.
The Australian international legend quit as first-team coach at the champions at the turn of the year to take over the J-League giants, previously managed by Ange Postecoglou.
Unfortunately, Kewell, who spent 18 months at Parkhead after being recruited by the Greek-Australian, has been handed his P45 following a disastrous spell in Japan.
After 23 games, the team are twelfth place in the league, 20 points adrift of leaders Machida Zelvia.
BALL BHOY…Harry Kewell during his 18 months as Celtic first-team coach.
Kewell replaced Kevin Muscat at the club after his former Aussie team-mate left to pursue a role with Chinese side Shanghai Port.
The club confirmed the news in a brief statement that said: “Yokohama F. Marinos announce today that we have terminated the contract with Manager Harry Kewell, who has been leading the top team from 2024 season.
“Further, John Hutchinson, Head Coach, will manage as an interim manager for the time being.”
Kewell, who had a star-studded playing career at Leeds United, Liverpool, Galatasaray and in his homeland with Melbourne Victory, has previously been in charge at Crawley Town, Notts County, Oldham and Barnet.
The 45-year-old Sydney-born operator arrived at Parkhead in June 2022 before leaving on his ill-fated switch to Japan which has ended so abruptly.
