EX-CELTIC FAVOURITE UP FOR GRABS

ONE-TIME Celtic favourite Jason Denayer is about to come up for grabs.

The Belgian international defender, who had a hugely successful one-season loan at the Hoops from Manchester City in 2014/15, is on his way out at Saudi Arabian outfit Al Fateh.

The 29-year-old, 35 times-capped centre-back was a hit with the Parkhead fans as he won the title and League Cup and was also named the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year during his time in Glasgow.

Ronny Deila wanted Denayer for a second campaign after his impressive dovetailing with Virgil van Dijk in the middle of the rearguard, but was disappointed when the elegant stopper moved to Turkish giants Galatasaray on another temporary switch.

TWO OF A KIND…classy centre-backs Jason Denayer and Virgil van Dijk with the League Cup after the 2-0 win over Dundee United at Hampden in March 2015.

Following a spell at Sunderland, he moved to French side Lyon in an £8million four-year deal in 2018.

Denayer continued on his soccer travels when he left the Ligue 1 team to join Saudi Pro League club Shabab Al Ahli and then onto Al Fateh in July 2023.

European clubs are bound to be alerted to the fact that player is on the brink of coming up for grabs and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported: “Jason Denayer set to be available as free agent as his contract at Saudi side Al Fateh will be terminated.

“Mutual agreement reached with Denayer to leave in the next hours.”

There was a time when Celtic would have been at the head of the queue to sign the classy back-four operator.
