FORMER Celtic boss Tony Mowbray has been sacked by West Brom – after just THREE months in charge.
The one-time Hoops manager and centre-back signed a two-and-a-half year deal in January as he returned to the dug-out after his cancer battle.
However, the 61-year-old gaffer’s comeback to The Hawthorns has been cut short in dramatic circumstances after being axed following the team’s 3-1 home defeat to Derby County yesterday which leaves them six points adrift of the play-offs.
Mowbray’s assistant Mark Venus, who was his No.2 at the Hoops, also got the boot.
HAPPIER TIMES…Tony Mowbray arrives as Celtic boss in July 2009.
Former Scotland international midfielder James Morrison, an ex-player at the Midlands outfit, will take over in a caretaker capacity while the second-tier club search for a long-term successor.
Mowbray spent nine months as team boss at Celtic after arriving from West Brom in July 1 2009 and leaving in March after a disastrous 4-0 loss to St Mirren in Paisley.
He has also managed Hibs, Middlesbrough, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland.
Morrison will be the FOURTH boss ex-Hoops winger Mikey Johnston will have played under since his £3million switch last summer.
Carlos Corberan signed the Republic of Ireland international before moving to Valencia in December. He was replaced by Chris Brunt on an interim basis before Mowbray returned.
