EX-IBROX MAN INSISTS TITLE IS ‘TOO CLOSE TO CALL’

ANDY GRAY, self-confessed Ibrox fan who spent one season at the club, insists Celtic should NOT be awarded the Premiership title.

The former hitman, now working as a media pundit at the age of 64, reckons the title race is “too close to call”, despite the Hoops leading by 13 points with only eight games to play.

Neil Lennon’s champions were poised to lift their ninth successive crown before the coronavirus pandemic outbreak brought the campaign to an emergency halt.

Football is at a worldwide standstill with UEFA announcing plans to conclude the 2019/20 season by the end of June, a schedule that is believed to be unrealistic.

That could force governing bodies to make a decision on whether the current campaign should be abandoned.

It has been reported SPFL and SFA chiefs are not interested in voiding the season and would prefer to ratify final positions in all four divisions as they stand.

That would see Celtic, Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers declared title winners of their respective leagues.

However, Gray, who made 14 appearances for the Govan club in season 1988/89  believes the destination of the trophy isn’t guaranteed.

Discussing whether leagues should be voided and titles handed out, fellow beIN Sport presenter Richard Keys remarked to the ex-Scotland international: “Celtic shouldn’t win in Scotland, either.”

Gray replied: “No championship that’s unfinished should be declared finished.

“In Scotland, it’s even closer [compared to England].

“It’s close and it’s not close as it might be or should be.

“But it’s too close to call still.”
