Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

It would be in all the papers if PL went into next meeting and demanded LMS is overturned due to multiple faults and withheld evidence . Demanded a 4 year old club has its proper history in SFA publications Also that all unpaid fines are paid.

It really is that simple, Celtic FC as a member club of the SFA should have used its considerable, contacts, experience and resources to use all the information the club knows and is available to them to either protest or formally request your points regarding LNS, Licencing Etc Etc is answered, nothing can happen till they do. the rest is pointing at squirrels

The silence from the club is starting to eat into my faith that they will do the right thing.

the board want Res12 to go away. always have and are playing the guys like fiddles…. anyone who has seen Bankier at th3e AGM will know what sort of person they are deailing with – he despises Celtic fans

    =======

Two things: One It would be shareholders that are being played. See MWD’S excellent post on the subject on previous.

Two: If we are being played how come it’s Celtic who are under pressure to act? The reps have been professional and straight as dies throughout.

Er I agreed we should pay, and keep up with it on an annually reviewed basis. I think that’s more important than the badge.

That’s what the badge is all about

  5. I’ll go go out on a limb here and say that if it’s not found that there’s a masonic explanation for the Grauniad’s mysterious ‘top level’ decision, I’ll eat my hat …

    Absolutely shocking from The Guardian.

We should be shouting this out from the rooftops and demanding to know what the reason behind the refusal is.

It’s getting murkier by the minute.

Can i thanks the res12 guys for being so strong and resolute so far and ask them to continue to do so on our behalf.

The rest of us should continue to provide them with as much support as we can.

    Shocking stuff.

  7. The real question that should be on everyone’s lips is why are the Club unwilling to tackle corruption.

I have yet to hear a plausible explanation as to why the club have never commented in the past 4 years goings-on. It’s not hard to jump to a complicit conclusion.

  10. The issues in Scottish football in regards to it’s governance and to the multi million pound fraud perpetrated at one of it’s member clubs go to the very heart of the Scottish business and political world if we think those involved are going to roll over and let us tickle their bellies we are mistaken.

This has been covered up at the highest levels in Scotland for that very reason, the polite society and handshakers and faker makers will never allow this material to become public knowledge and shine a light on their murky treatment of the Scottish people and their blatant disregard for the rules and regulations.

It will be fought tooth and nail to protect those who invented and still drive the gravy train.

Well done again and again to the Res 12 Bhoys and their team of intrepid truth seekers, you are fighting the good fight against the oldest of enemies..

  12. AULDHEID – I admire what has been done by you and others but the bottom line is CFC have done nothing in 4 years to set the records straight, clean up the SFA. They have done nothing as far as I can see, Never trust people who say they are doing things in the background.. Would Ferrari have done nothing if Mercedes had been found to be cheating with the help of Bernie Eccleston? No they would have demanded he went called in lawyers to be recompensed.

Looks like the dreaded list is upon us again.

The list of people who are asking one simple question, even as many buy a season ticket.

    Dear Celtic Plc,why the silence?

  16. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on 8TH JUNE 2016 1:15 PM

Bear in mind I worked there close to 20yrs ago. It’ll be entirely different now. So season 97/98 as agency staff we were on £3.75/hr. Celtic’s own staff of the same level were on £3.50/hr although they had other advantages. At that time I was in a flat share, the usual stuff for an early 20s man and I got by fine. That said, I had contacts in night clubs etc that meant I didn’t pay to go out, and I also didn’t drink at the time. So I had a really cheap lifestyle. There was no minimum wage at that time.

Permanent staff were basically limited to those in team leader roles and upwards, and I would think were paid on an appropriate level.

That’s the other method they may have used to get to the 500k level. Take the maximum cost to bring one person for living wage level and then apply that to the entire staff – regardless of whether they were already earning above LW or not.

As I said, I’m extremely dubious of that figure.

  17. Might I suggest a letter writing campaign to the Guardian and the Herald (or am I too late).

As far as travelling to Celtic Park goes, I am fortunate enough to live less than a mile from the ground so it’s a 2o minute walk, but know the pain from when I travelled in from Cumbernauld in years gone by. Plod are there on a semi-regular basis at the big roundabout at the Forge (Tesco side) so they could easily convoy buses out. They just can’t be arsed I reckon.

There is one columnist who is known to take newspapers to task for this kind of thing, ignoring the issues in favour of possible advertising loss.

He has an excellent track record on it,too.

    Roy Greenslade.

Aye,he works for The Guardian. But the point is that he is a man for freedom of the press.

If he doesn’t back up our position,we are in real bother.

  19. Read the article about the Guardian situation.

The scottish establishment have closed ranks and are influencing others to follow suit. Institutionally racist country defends its racism. Shockerooni.

The big question is whether celtic are part of that establishment.

All the evidence points to the answer being yes so far.

KLV shouldnt the board deal with these issues? Why is it down to the supporters or shareholders? Unless of course the board are part of all this………..

Doesnt matter to the board now anyway – they got your money. CQN refuses to discuss matters like this.

Is cqn part of the establishment too?

  20. The Scott Trust..

Further to the post earlier about the Guardian taking tens of thousands of pounds from local councils in return for editorial guidance over their review of the “Future of Public Services” Guido got thinking. Is this shabby journalism really what was envisaged by the tax-evading CP Scott? The Scott Trust is in place to “secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity: as a quality national newspaper without party affiliation; remaining faithful to its liberal tradition; as a profit-seeking enterprise managed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.” All very noble.

Amongst the “essential qualities that Scott believed should form the character of a newspaper” are honesty, fairness and “a sense of duty to the reader and the community”. The Scott Trust’ role is to ensure that these values are upheld throughout Guardian Media Group.

So how does touting out control over a feature to the highest bidder really stack up with this?

  23. 2 seats are available in WS2 Section right next to the Director’s Box for any board haters.

Available Season Tickets now down to around 670 going by my OCD count, was 1100 last night. Completely sold out in the few days I’d say.

  24. Afternoon Winnings

I did read the article thanks. And thanks for the update. Its pretty disgusting but thats what happens when the establishment is protecting itself so no real surprise.

I was more wondering why Paul doesnt have it as the main discussion point. Why he isnt questionning the boards silence.

Like I say makes you wonder if celtic and by extension our cqn ownder is part of the establishment?

Anyway the board wont give two hoots about this stuff. season books sold, job done, they can now go back to simply abusing their own supporters like they do.

  29. News of this latest twist in the Res 12 saga will very soon be all over the blogosphere.

I know it has been said that a Board statement on the matter is, like Billy Bunter’s postal order, ‘in the post’. But if they (the Board) don’t quickly see their way to making an actual statement then much of the goodwill generated by the appointment of BR will be flushed down the proverbial stank …
