Exhilaration lands on hard plastic Rugby Park

All of that exhilarating football from Tuesday lands on the hard plastic surface of Rugby Park on Sunday, as Celtic return to the ground which last year cost Brendan Rodgers his 100% trophy record in Scotland, then resulted in an even worse performance and defeat in the league.

This will be Kilmarnock’s first home game since their hilarious win over Newco.  Their three games on the road since then resulted in a win at Tynecastle, and defeats to Ross County and Dundee.

They have not lost at home since August, when St Johnstone thumped them 0-3 as Derek McInnes rested several players before their Conference League trip to Norway.  That record will be tested by the flowing fabulousness of the champions.

For Brendan, this will be a rare occasion when he has a full squad to choose from and no game to worry about for two weeks.  He may choose to leave Cameron Carter-Vickers’ knees on the bench, but otherwise, I expect a full strength team to start, and get the game won early on.

    Kilmarnock have decided to postpone converting to a grass surface until the start of season 2026/27 which is the SPFL deadline.

     

     

    The Rugby Park club were due to get rid of their artificial surface at the end of the current season but have now decided to leave it in place for another year.

    Not sure Nawrocki has been given a chance. I don’t recall him letting us down ever when going into a settled team.

     

     

    That said for me I would play (if possible) the players who have previous experience on what is a unique (even amongst plastic surfaces) pitch.

     

     

    Eg Scales and Taylor. McCowan and Forrest. Idah for physicality but definitely the energy of Kuhn.

    We’re about to enter another 2-week international break, so I don’t get this clamour for key players to be rested on Sunday. Yes, if a player has a knock or has recently returned from injury, by all means leave him out or bench him.

     

     

    Kilmarnock away can be a tricky fixture so I say we go full-strength and make the changes if and when we’re a couple of goals to the good.

     

     

    I’d possibly start Idah and bring Kyogo on later but that’s about it, barring injuries.

    Tom – agreed. We did not look particularly great at home against Dundee a few short days ago after making a number of changes. It took the arrival of the subs for things to improve dramatically. Start strongest XI and adapt as necessary.

    Not sure nawrocki doesnt have the skill or talent to make the team as when he has played he has looked good

     

     

    There must be something in the background keeping him from making that leap

     

     

    Look at scales whose heart , desire and determination are now, not in question

     

     

    I would think nawrocki should be trying to emulate the bold scalesy in all he does

    Reading BRs comments today on Greg Taylor,you would be hard pushed to find a manager issue so many glowing tributes to a player.Its obvious,what he thinks of the guy,how much he wants him to stay.So what’s the problem?.I can’t see GT looking for ludicrous wages.He has done his time,played out of his skin every game,and the manager is desperate to keep him.

     

    The player must be due a wage and a contract that will give him,and his new family, the security to finish his time with us.

    i am willing to bet everyone of our players no matter where they are from grew up playing their youth football very often on plastic pitches.

     

     

    and indeed much of the training regime as well.

     

     

    i dont believe it is as big a problem as it is paited.

     

     

    style of passing fast might be a bit off, but i dont believe the surface causes extra rigour on these elite athletes.

     

     

    who of our players has been injured on a plastic pitch ?

     

     

    if it was the case why have 3 across our facilities ?

     

     

    it is just an excuse, quit it, and focus.

    Greg Taylor has been criticised by many on here myself included ,but he has made a huge contribution in his time,Ange made him a far better player with the inverted FB role,which Brendan has adopted as well. He has seen guys come in on far bigger money, without making a contribution. Footballers are self employed businessmen, they will sign up to the best deal they can get,I’m sure currently he could get a lot more in the English Championship, good full backs are very difficult to find,I wouldn’t think he’s wanting mad money,but he deserves the best deal he can get .
