Expectations from QC report

1044

There appears to be a degree of confusion over the report Rangers International FC PLC have commissioned into the conduct of its directors.  This report resulted from the revelation that Craig Whyte was a director of Sevco 5088 Ltd, the company which paid for exclusivity rights and had an irrevocable agreement to buy the assets from Rangers administrators, Duff and Phelps.  Several RIFC directors were unaware of links between Whyte and Sevco 5088 and were so concerned they demanded this independent inquiry.

In short, the board need to know if information given to them by fellow director, Charles Green, is wholly correct and reliable.  Another PLC has also told the stock market they have made a report to the Serious Fraud Office, for a company director, this cannot get more serious.

The report is unlikely to come to any hard conclusions as to the legal status of assets like Ibrox Stadium, that is a matter the courts could later take a different view of, or of the club’s entitlement to associate membership of the SFA, which will be a matter for Mr Ogilvie and his board.  It will more likely do little more than inform the RIFC board if they have reasons for alarm.

On becoming aware of a potential serious corporate matter directors must take steps to confirm any disputed information, consider potential consequences for the company and correct any stock market announcements which were subsequently found to be inaccurate.  This is the road the RIFC board have gone down.

If the report indicates that the courts are unlikely to rule that Sevco 5088 Ltd can be considered a part of RIFC group, and that its entitlement was inappropriately assumed by Sevco Scotland Ltd (now The Rangers Football Club Ltd), the directors will then, and only then, have enough information to decide if some of their worst fears will be realised.

If Mr Green found his grilling by STV difficult, he will find the forensic accountants and lawyers no less taxing.  In answer to their questions I wonder if he’ll say, “Define Craig Whyte”.

Congratulations to the under 20s on last night’s win, and on their fourth successive double.

Listened to the commentary on CTV and the two bhoys singled out Paul George and Callum MacGregor as their motm, but also congratulated all involved for a good team effort especially in the second half.

Expect to see a few of them make an appearance in the remaining games leading up to the Cup Final.

    Well done the young Hoops!

When I was back in Motherwell recently, I drove to St Luke’s chapel where I was an altar boy many years ago. I wanted to go to mass there, just for old times sake and also to show my Aussie missus where I served on the altar and where I was raised in the faith.

St Luke’s serves the Forgewood housing scheme where I grew up, and which as you probably know, has a very chequered history, to say the least.

I was surprised on discovering that there was a Sunday mass listed as “in Polish”. We duly went to mass there the following morning and afterwards I spoke to the priest and asked about the Polish mass.

He explained that Forgewood now housed a fairly substantial Polish community, which is something I was not aware of, and which was a very pleasant surprise to me.

I am an old curmudgeon who has supported Celtic for many years and have some great memories. However, unlike many of you younger bhoys I have never believed Rangers would truly die and we would have seen the back of them now there sorry saga has been going on for a while now and all sorts of slight of hand appears to have been going on down Ibrokes way with very little or no punishment at all.The msm havnt dug into the goings on but have rather continued to try to spin the story positively ie who they want to sign the size of there war chest etc as I have allways suspected the establishment will help them in any way they can.Rangers will not die completely but they are in danger of killing the rest of us with boredom.H.H.

I believe they will be deducted a quarter of the points they had from last season. I think it’s around the 17 point mark.

The rules were changed after Rangers wennt into administration.

I would see them going down. Why do you think Brown was installed at Dens Park? It’s been no secret in football circles. I have been putting it on this blog for months. Hearts could be finished.

  15. Hearts are currently 11 points ahead of Dundee.

Under new SPL rules, if they go into administration they would face a penalty of one third of the points won last season, rounded up to the nearest whole number. 52 points last season, so an 18 point penalty by my arithmetic.

That would leave Hearts 7 points behind Dundee with three games left. Potentially this is very good news for Dundee …

Enjoyed last night congratulations on a fine win, security ring OTT body searches, sniffer dogs all for a youth final? audience largely made up of weans………….obviously austerity hasnt reached the police budget yet

At Hampden last night we were given the closest thing we may get to an answer when the Parkhead side’s development squad won their fourth Scottish FA Youth Cup in a row, at the expense of a Dunfermline Athletic side of which no fewer than nine have been pressed into first-team action for Jim Jefferies’ administration-ravaged Irn-Bru First Division side this season.

It was a bit like a science lesson on the evolution of the modern-day footballer.

Although this was night and day from the eight-goal romp against Queen of the South here last season, this success, coupled with victory in the inaugural Scottish Premier League Under-20 league, confirmed Celtic’s dominance in the youth game.

The jubilation was genuine as captain for the day John Herron was joined by injured captain Marcus Fraser to lift the trophy, but if recent history is anything to go by there remains much to do if these players are to make the grade at Parkhead.

“I think there will be a couple who have caught the eye of the fans, the directors and the chief executive who was here tonight,” said John Kennedy, the Celtic coach.

Despite hosting Airdrie United on Saturday still needing a result to preserve their first division status, Jefferies had given under-20s coach John Potter carte blanche to pick whomever he pleased, and it said it all that there were worried looks in Dunfermline areas when Alex Whittle limped off early on.

“We more than matched them for the majority of the game,” said Potter. “The more important game comes on Saturday so they have to dust themselves down and go again.”

Celtic started with four of the team which won last year, with places in midfield for last year’s captain Jackson Irvine, and Callum McGregor, as for the second time this week, a youth final drew a respectable crowd in Glasgow.

As in the Glasgow Cup final between Celtic and Rangers, a small band of fans released smoke bombs and a green flare pre-match, and spent a while taunting their opponents with chants about liquidation.

But it was all largely good natured and there was no repeat of the seat throwing which marred Monday night’s final at Firhill.

Dunfermline fans had travelled through in big numbers as well and it became clear early on that this was to be no repeat of last year’s mismatch in which Celtic were 4-0 up by half-time.

Indeed, deprived of notable players Fraser, Joe Chalmers and Lewis Kidd to injury, it was Celtic who started the match nervously.

A mistake by Eoghan O’Connell within seconds gave giant striker Blair Henderson an early chance which Celtic scrambled clear. Italian goalkeeper Leonardo Fasan then had to look lively to stop Scott Mercer latching on to a Grant Munro cross.

Celtic calmed their nerves and before long Fasan’s opposite number Ryan Goodfellow had produced a fine tip-over to stop Irvine from scoring from John Herron’s cross and Bahrudin Atajic’s header fell narrowly beyond a post.

In a match refereed by a category four official for the first time – official Scott Lambie did fine, brave enough to book Herron for diving – it took just eight minutes after the restart for the first goal to arrive. Atajic headed Paul George’s cross towards Herron, whose looping header rebounded off a post but was turned in by Jamie Lindsay.

Atajic then found room away from 17-year-old Lewis Martin, the impressive Dunfermline defender, to head past Goodfellow.

You feared for Dunfermline then, but these boys have been hardened by first-team football and Allan Smith, a wee buzz bomb of a forward, slalomed past two defenders to score with a low shot.

At that very moment, Kennedy was readying striker Denny Johnstone to come on, and it proved an inspired substitution when the brawny striker – another member of the Scotland Under-19 group which will travel to Belgium later this month – found a clever header back across Goodfellow’s boughs to make the game safe.

    THREE TO WATCH

    Bahrudin Atajic (Celtic)

The Swede, of Bosnian descent, spent his formative years at Malmo much like a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Atajic lacks similar physique but boasts nimble footwork, an eye for goal and flair. Hit and miss last night but highly regarded at Parkhead.

    Paul George (Celtic)

The Irishman has been regarded as the coming man for quite some time now, having made his full debut as a 16-year-old in a pre-season friendly against AZ Alkmaar three years ago. Development has been delayed by a double leg break but a lively left winger.

    Lewis Martin (Dunfermline)

Only turned 17 last month but the willowy defender was an unflappable presence in the Fife side’s rearguard. Shaun Byrne and Allan Smith also impressed.

A Scottish FA judicial panel will rule today on whether former Rangers chief executive Charles Green broke rules by using racist language.

The businessman was charged with “bringing the game into disrepute by making comments in a media interview of an offensive and racist nature” and “not acting in the best interests of football” following comments made last month.

Green had referred to then Rangers director Imran Ahmad as “my Paki friend” in a newspaper interview.

The Englishman was initially unapologetic in the face of criticism for his remarks but later issued an apology.

A disciplinary hearing was scheduled for April 25 but was postponed until May 2 at Green’s request.

However, STV understands the businessman will not now appear at the hearing in person.

Green stood down from his post in April, following a series of allegations made by former owner Craig Whyte about the takeover at Ibrox.

Green said the “negative publicity” was causing a “distraction” for the club.

Well as much as I don’t like Bomber Brown I think Dundee remaining in the league would be good for the East Coast. We’d retain Dundee Derbies and they have a decent travelling support.

I don’t like hearts but losing them from the league would mean us Celts wouldn’t have a club to spank who we really enjoy spanking (apart from Aberdeen who we take for granted as a spankable team).

  19. If Hearts go into admin just wait for the Sevco cheerleaders in the MSM saying we need Sevco in the league.

  20. Good goals in the U20 game on that link, pick of the bunch was the Dunfermline goal.

Three headers almost from Celtic one rebound off the post tucked away nicely.
