In these times, when most of us do not face the dramas of war and siege, football acts as a proxy. The ancient part of our brains are conditioned to be tribal, which is why our tribes, all of us still on earth, are here. Those without that instinct died out long ago.
It was all there on the desert last night. Two magnificent tribes fought an epic battle. There were no bad guys, but the best of the good guys won. It was a triumph, football may never again be blessed with a cliff-hanger like that on such a stage.
Messi is right to stay for a lap of honour in international football. Win, lose or draw, he deserves the acclaim coming his way.
On Saturday, Celtic were as dominant as I can recall them at Aberdeen. It would have counted for little were it not for Callum McGregor’s late winner. Results: first and last. Our challengers have a modicum of momentum since appointing Suits and Brogues, give them no encouragement. Even better if we leave it late to let them believe we will always pull something out of the bag. Extinguished hope is brutal.

“Messi really is some player, as good as anyone there’s ever been, but still a little behind Maradona and Pele”.
‘As good as..’ but not quite.
How does that work?
I see that the Argentina player, Alexis MacAllister traces his family to the Glens of Antrim, in fact from Cushendall. I hear the locals are impressed, but have been heard to ask,
‘winning a World Cup os ok but can he hurl?’*
* for those not aware Antrim is the hotbed of hurling in Ulster and Cushendall and the surrounding area is the hotbed of Antrim hurling, nothing else matters, not even the World Cup!
The older generations in Argentina may argue that both Maradona and Messi werent even the best players to come out of Argentina, Thomas Felipe Carlovich. There’s a good article (sorry i cant post from the app) on Football Italia about the desire to find the greatest, can we not just revel in their glories.
Im glad for Messi and Argentina (Mario Kempes 1978 started it for me), France and Mbappe already have world cups and im sure they’ll start as favourites for the next world cup, with everyone else, bar Englundshire of course who think just as Jamie O’Hara that because they play in the EPL they should be winning trophies, he epitomises the modern day definition of “Gammon”

Excellent post…Well done to you
Like you I couldnt bring myself to watch one minute of the Qatar Sports Washing Fest
Thankfully its over now….
Sorry i didn’t know that other fans were also being filmed. Celtic fans were less than 10 per cent of the capacity and no sign of any others being filmed.

You never give up do you?
Boring as f888 so you are.
C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s common for visiting fans to be filmed at most, if not all stadiums.
In most cases, visiting fans are grouped together, Pittodrie being a case in point, making it easier to film them.
Only people like Ernie believe it only happens in Scotland. In fact he believes it only happens to Celtic supporters.
Imagine if a flare is thrown from the terrace and someone is injured – a player, ball boy or steward etc. If a police camera caught the culprit, even a Celtic supporter, would we claim that his human rights have been violated?
Walk down any high street in any town or city and you are being captured on CCTV. If you are doing nothing wrong, walk on.
Walk on………………through the wind…………….walk on through the rain…………………..
C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nite all!
I will update the Superbru table On Thursday after the 2 midweek matches finish on Tue and Wednesday this week. The first batch of prizes will be awarded after the fixtures on 28th December are completed. Although we have some games postponed into he new year, it will be the points total at the end of the night on the 28th which will determine the top 3 winners (I will accept any games played in the final 3 days of 2022 as contributing but the deadline closes on 31st December and 2023 starts the second half of our competition).
Those who missed last week’s deadline can still do the 2 midweek games (and the postponed fixtures, I think) so you can keep your points up to strike in the 2nd half of our comp.
Once again, thanks to all participants
Nothing to say about Aberdeen’s tactics, Paul? Was this not the “winning football” style you have been urging Celtic to use in Europe? Hmmmm, didn’t quite work out too well…..
A bad day indeed for old firmists and “title race” lovers!
Great to see the captain back – controlling, leading, scoring. We are truly fortunate to have him.
Buzzing for Wednesday night and return to Celtic Park or Parkhead depending on preference.
Compared our next 8 games to that of our closest domestic rivals and it is interesting.
No doubts who has the tougher program.
4 home and 2 away in league for us plus a home cup tie and a hampden semi
4 away and 2 home for them plus a hampden semi and a tricky away cup tie
I would hope we can emerge 12 points clear after the 2nd complete round of league games and with in the next round of both cups and thems out of at least one cup.
The clamour for more 11th hour crazy loan deals like Ramsay at the end of January would be great.
They didn’t look great against the hibees burnley78. I think they’ll drop points soon. Much has been made about Goodwin’s tactics against us but it was a huge compliment to us – we are scoring goals now and we will continue for the foreseeable.

Elderly fans like yourself have nothing to be concerned about, so that’s OK.
Another world record in number of complaints about Jeremy Clarkson.
Shouldn’t stadium CCTV be used for this?
I’m speaking from a position of relative ignorance but I’d assume this is more effective than a human holding a hand held device.
What if they break wind loudly and it is recorded and retained.
Is this by any chance connected to the failure of Ibrox CCTV to catch the culprits who hurled objects at current and former Celtic goalkeepers?
A Morton supporting pal went straight to cappielow for a game v saint mirren couple of years ago directly from his workplace and still wearing his overalls and a company issued hi Viz jacket.
He witnessed scuffles at cartsdyke station . Along Hamilton Street and even in the wee Dublin end. Worst he has seen in years.
He said there must have been intelligence as police were well drilled. In the right places. Horses. Dogs . And vans. But worst he thought was filming of the fans himself included by special police and even a drone.
No shrinking violet he was worried with all that footage he would get a chap on the door and arrested and his benefits stopped
SAINT STIVS
You’re lying. Ernie says it’s only Celtic fans who get filmed.
Back to heavy handed policing.
There are several clips circulating of the onion pears getting some dished out by polis who were also filming them as they tried to go between tunnels to unveil their latest utter shite tifo.
Quite funny actually.
As an aside aside.
I saw my first FTK graffiti today.
The more things change and all that
Le Bleus were mere spectators for most of the ninety minutes last night as the Argentines were in total command. One wonders why the French were so much off the pace was it due to this virus that hit their camp?
His team may have been down and out but Mbappe , what a player at still only 23 years old he is , single handedly dragged his team back into this contest to give us an enthralling 30 minutes of extra time with Messi and himself trading punches to give us that penalty shootout.
Great to see Messi finaly get his hands on that elusive World Cup medal. Delighted for the lad who has given us such wonderful years in his time with Barcelona.
Quite surprised to see such large presence of Argentine supporters and the low turnout for European teams. Must be a lot of wealthy people in Argentina.
Must not forget Calmac’s terrific strike on Saturday the equal of anything I saw in yesterday’s match.
Interesting to read how 28 of the players in the World Cup squads come from ‘Les banlieues Parisians’ which is literally the poorest of the poor housing estates in Paris.
Obviously not all in the French squad but it is great to see how football can still provide such a positive escape for people growing up in difficult backgrounds.
Evening all.
Happy birthday to the living legend that is BIG JIMMY.

The numbers from the big two South Americans were down to significant airline subsidy for direct flights and some late deals offered to ensure support and energy for some of the less privileged non European teams.
A lot went on behind the scenes to ensure the visual which went out around the world looked good.
It’s amazing what a few spare billion can do for public image.

I think you are right. They are very fragile. We are not. One defeat for them and I do think it could come tumbling down.
15. Pope Francis used to work as a nightclub bouncer in Buenos Aires
The first-ever pope to be born in the Americas was Pope Francis, a Porteño born to Italian parents. After his appointment to the highest position within the Catholic Church, interest in his personal life started to grow which led to the revelation that he had previously worked as a nightclub bouncer in his home city of Buenos Aires.
