In these times, when most of us do not face the dramas of war and siege, football acts as a proxy. The ancient part of our brains are conditioned to be tribal, which is why our tribes, all of us still on earth, are here. Those without that instinct died out long ago.
It was all there on the desert last night. Two magnificent tribes fought an epic battle. There were no bad guys, but the best of the good guys won. It was a triumph, football may never again be blessed with a cliff-hanger like that on such a stage.
Messi is right to stay for a lap of honour in international football. Win, lose or draw, he deserves the acclaim coming his way.
On Saturday, Celtic were as dominant as I can recall them at Aberdeen. It would have counted for little were it not for Callum McGregor’s late winner. Results: first and last. Our challengers have a modicum of momentum since appointing Suits and Brogues, give them no encouragement. Even better if we leave it late to let them believe we will always pull something out of the bag. Extinguished hope is brutal.

Irish community today
This Irish community in Argentina is the largest in any non-English speaking country in the world and is the fifth largest in the world. The Irish community in Argentina still try to keep up the inherited traditions and to rescue those other traditions that have been lost over time. It is estimated that there are over one million Irish descendants in modern-day Argentina.[12][failed verification]

Many years ago when I was living in Ireland I heard a superb prog on the radio about Irish folks who were living in rural Argentina, their traditions were so ingrained that you could tell from their accents where they originally came from, Cork, Leitrim etc, quite fascinating so it was.

That Postecoglu weekend just booted obsessive pig sick Sevco bias into touch for yet another Merry Celtic Christmas? It’s a squad game and Ange delights in the five sub rule , two games in Parkhead now and much munching of pies for Fatty.
A perfectly functioning Celtic doesn’t just win difficult away fixtures, our victories include that common cause, clearly enjoyed by many nationalities and cultures. Having a better squad, having a leader, and no time for napping makes the bhoys smile.
Celtic remain a miraculous football club,in a city where darkness pervades round every corner even if it’s just in the form of the milkman or the Amazon man. All along the wrong side of the Clyde from quay to quay, news portals for their next door neighbours born from succulent lamb that went plain bad, not baa.
A blanket sports news editorial, that makes fanzines that were created before the club look respectable and misses the evidence ignored by not one, but now two including video assisted referees. Thanks to the same ‘advances’ Celtic supporters have the proof on digital tap, no TV replays, no comment, cheating stacked up, against Celtic’s only likely rival.
No scrutiny, no revision, no tax , no neck helped kill one club along the way of its maniacal pursuit of Celtic. Hamdump and SMSM seem hell bent on doing it all over again in the masonic merry go round of rule breaking, loans, and lone Rainjurz the categoric licence thieves.
Merry World Cup weekend before Christmas Mr Brown Brogue.

Another early rise for the Oz faithful for the Livi game, some of you
bhoys will know what it’s like now after the Sydney cup, it’s one of
those duties you just have to do.
Got a feeling the hun will be battered by an Aberdeen backlash
after the stinging criticism Goodwin and his team got for that backs
to the wall performance against the bhoys, so I expect fireworks and
no doubt controversy which usually follows the bigots about.
Garden now, loads to do after a weekend partying down the rebel
peninsula, reckon I’m dried out enough to push a lawnmower, well !

How do tickets for the final of the World Cup get distributed when no one knows who will be in the final until a few days before?
On the assumption that several thousand go to sponsors, VIPs etc, they still have 10x1000s to give to the supporters of the two participatin teams. Do they go on sale after the semifinals?

Re coppers filming fans…
I was at Saturdays Melbourne Victory v Melb City game that saw the fans riot and injure the City keeper and a cameraman.
Exiting the stadium, I asked a couple of strapping riot cops if they’d caught the culprits (the cops only came onto the park after the Victory fans had returned to their seats)
Being a bit pre-occupied with trying to look hard and surly, the rozzers would only grunt unintelligibly.
Until one held up a sophisticated-looking camera on a long pole…”Got plenty of nice pictures” he claimed.
Mibby the global model of policing is changing from direct intervention, to after-event door knocking ?
Not sure how many nice pics and door chapping happened after the legendary Battle of George Square !

Hi Quadro
Kept watching for you at our sesh in the Dub, but seen
your post now , and seen you were at a game.
What’s with the wee tadgers all wearing black at the
Melbourne game, is this a new craze ?
H H. Mick
Aye MICK; I follow Western Utd locally and our Sunday game clashed with yer Riviera riot ;))
Dunno about these wannabe ‘Blackshirts’ – Philmac always shows pics of Sevvie-following Nazis wearing all-black. Could be a new uniform for Mussolini/Mosley fanboys and girls? The black balaclava is an essential accessory for that garb.
In time for Xmas, the weather turns! Love watching the fitba and topping up my tan in the AAMI East stand !

After the draw was made, tickets for all games, including knockout stages and final, went on sale online. Those tickets could then be surrendered back into the pot, where the purchaser’s team drops out at the group stage, for example.
Taking England fans as an example, at each knockout stage they would have pre-purchased tickets. Having been eliminated at the quarter-final stage, the fans would have surrendered their tickets for the semi-final. These could then be bought by France and Morocco supporters.
Similarly for the final, Moroccan and Croatian supporters could surrender their tickets, to be taken up by French and Argentinian fans.
Surrendering tickets was not compulsory. Eg England fans could have kept their tickets and attended the semi-final and final.
The above applied to both paper and digital tickets.

Quite a lot actually. For months after the George Square riots, hardly a week went by without pics of huns appearing in the papers with requests to “contact the police if you know this man” and in a few cases “woman”.

To be fair, in a crowd of thousands in a square, a lot of crimes are not known about or detected until after the event, when police footage is examined. There were a number of live arrests on the day as they happened, eg police assault and vandalism under the noses of cops. In such a large crowd, you can’t expect police to see every criminal act as it happens, far less rush in and arrest the perp every single time.

I sure don’t expect police to see every criminal act as it happens, far less rush in and arrest the perp every single time… do you?
But in this Melbourne game riot/invasion, we watched the Victory ultras swarm onto the park unfettered by a thin line of crowd security and without any police intervention; in that time, we saw the City keeper assaulted with a steel bucket with little security or police protection.
Right after the Victory neds retreated back into the stand, a line of polis THEN came onto the park to stand in front of their ‘terrace’ where some missiles were chucked at them. But they didnt lay a glove on any of the neds they saw lobbing stuff etc. Mibby they feared exacerbating the situation.
Mibby, as I suggest, the policing model is about pick em off one-by-one afterwards.
Makes sense as long as there’s no immediate threat to other attendees, esp including families w kids or oldies.
