In these times, when most of us do not face the dramas of war and siege, football acts as a proxy. The ancient part of our brains are conditioned to be tribal, which is why our tribes, all of us still on earth, are here. Those without that instinct died out long ago.
It was all there on the desert last night. Two magnificent tribes fought an epic battle. There were no bad guys, but the best of the good guys won. It was a triumph, football may never again be blessed with a cliff-hanger like that on such a stage.
Messi is right to stay for a lap of honour in international football. Win, lose or draw, he deserves the acclaim coming his way.
On Saturday, Celtic were as dominant as I can recall them at Aberdeen. It would have counted for little were it not for Callum McGregor’s late winner. Results: first and last. Our challengers have a modicum of momentum since appointing Suits and Brogues, give them no encouragement. Even better if we leave it late to let them believe we will always pull something out of the bag. Extinguished hope is brutal.

Another inspiring article Paul. It was a colossal match at the weekend and the game in Quatar was a classic.
Celtic are a part of the Argentina story, obviously as fierce adversaries in the 60’s and 70’s but also for the visits by Maradona and Messi to Celtic Park, as those guys sought to get further impregnated with football.
However, as you succinctly put it in your article on Friday, Scotland in 2022 is “a society drunk on a lack of oversight or accountability” and I would add, with all its priorities wrong. I played football in the school playground with kids who had Messi’s ability, guys you could never get the ball off. But each and every one was an individual and different. Individuals are difficult to mould for coaches and for teachers. Instead of recognising the talent and fomenting it, the scottish presby way has been to tell people to not be so flashy and to know their place. Only individuals can change the mindset in scottish football.

This time last year as we went into the winter break 2nd Rangers (51) were top of the table 6 points clear of Celtic (45) both having played 20 games.
When we returned in January, the old pre covid rangers also returned, scared of crowds, terrified of their own supporters, booed at half time and fulltime by ra paeople who follow followed. Their bottle collapsed in particular they can barely get 3 wins in a row away from home.
For the calendar year of 2022 look at this for a sequence, read it and try convince me that Mick will do any better ? the next two fixtures will be interesting Aberdeen and County away, they struggled for draws earlier this year, lets see if plucky gers can get some points on the board and some refereeing assistance.
I personally doubt it.
