Extra week training in July has huge impact

2173

I was concerned about a trip to Estonia after hearing Hearts struggle in their home leg against Estonian opponents last week, so news that Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps beat Flora Tallinn was welcome, although the concern was tempered as news arrived that Hearts were three goals up in the away leg.

The lesson here is that in July, one more week’s training has a huge impact on performance.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with how training has progressed thus far, but it’s only when players put multiple 90 minutes under their belts that they are ready for competitive action. There’s not necessarily a great deal of work to do to overcome Red Imps (no offence intended), but qualifiers come thick and fast thereafter. Despite beating Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana yesterday, I expect Celtic will be more motivated for Saturday’s game against Maribor.

It gets serious from now onwards.

    3 hrs to registration deadline for Q2 ties though being honest if our current squad can’t beat the Imps easily then we shouldn’t be there.

    As I’ve posted before the declines for registration for CL Qualifying are :

    * List A has to be submitted by the following fixed deadlines:

 * 7 July 2016 (24.00CET) for all matches in the second qualifying round;

    * 21 July 2016 (24.00CET) for all matches in the third qualifying round;

    * 8 August 2016 (24.00CET) for all matches in the play-offs;

    * 1 September 2016 (24.00CET) for all further matches from the first match in
the group stage

    * 43.08  For the three qualifying rounds and the play-offs, a club may register a maximum of one new eligible player on List A after the above-mentioned deadlines, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected. Such registration must be completed by 24.00CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match and the club’s association must confirm in writing that the new player is eligible to play at domestic level at this time.

    I’m a couple of weeks after you. been to most of Majorca, but not Santa Ponsa, till now. Apparently we are near the beach and central. That’s according to Mrs Dawn, probably half way up a mountain

    Stewart Robertson, the Sevco managing director, withdrew his name for consideration in the SPFL board elections tonight. Their official site says it’s so he can spend more time on his day job. In fact I can tell you that he did it because he was told he faced no prospect of winning … only the certainty of a humiliating defeat.

    Wow. That’s what happens when you don’t score when you are on top.

  13. 50 shades of green on

    Think one of the other officials informed the ref for the penalty there.

    Why lead with your arm? Looked a pen to me.

  14. After these tournaments we usually see our referees influenced by the way it was officiated . Expect to see penalties galore from corners for the first few weeks , well against us anyway .
