Eye’s oversight

596

You could be forgiven for losing track of Scottish football issues of governance, accountability and oversight, there are so many fronts to engage on. On the heels of CQN approaching Private Eye on the subject of Resolution 12 (granting of licences to participate in Uefa competitions), the newspaper today wrote about the recent Offshore Game Report on the SFA’s dealings with oldco Rangers’ tax affairs, the SPL Commission into Rangers, as well as the awarding of Uefa licences in 2011.

This is what functioning oversight looks like. Organisations with a platform to analyse those in power do so. In the Scottish goldfish bowl, we import oversight from London, which makes accountability difficult and, ultimately, makes governance ineffective.

No review of the Nimmo Smith Commission will take place until the Supreme Court has had their say, but any hopes of accountability you have at that point will rest in interest in the matter from London. We simply don’t have the structures in place here.

  1. Looks like Brendan, is going to take a bit of time to sort through what he has before deciding on who to leave go and who to bring in. I’m OK with that except he knows, we know, the world and it’s mother knows we need to back up Griff with another Striker.

So Brendan please sign a quality striker asap and you can take your time over the rest.

“Rangers” are signing whoever they can get for nothing and doing it quickly. Their only aim is for some kind of quick domestic success.

Celtic will be looking to sign players that Brendan really wants – players for domestic and European success – that is more difficult and will take time and ‘real’ money.

In the last few seasons all of our rivals in SPFL have built mostly ‘Bosman’ squads, with no real challenge, except Aberdeen, to an extent, last season.

Of course, I would be worried if a squad of higher value ‘Bosman’s’ could present a serious challenge to us – it would be a further indictment of the state of the game in Scotland.

The previous Ibrox based club regularly failed to maintain a challenge to Celtic even during the abyss,of their terminal trickery.

The current set up with random jumped up car salesmen, failed directors from various businesses, never mind aged freebie players is a ‘shooty in’ situation for Celtic.

The ‘new Billy Boy on the block’ mentality in the boardroom will bring Sevco down much faster than it sank Rangers, they run at a loss not just financially, they have been beaten by bigotry, before they get on a pitch, any pitch.

Besides we’ve just gotten an EPL manager all to smite Sevco.

Pending the outcome in London…hopes of accountability etc…

If the outcome is in favour of HMRC I think Celtic supporters and possibly fans of other teams will set the agenda. There will be no hiding place for anyone at Hampden or Celtic Park for that matter.

You’ve got to admire BR looking through last year’s games – some of them I could barely watch at the time let alone again. Suppose it’s necessary for him to rate the quality of deal and player we need now.

How so? Running your contract down is often an attractive proposition for players of above average ability and still in excellent physical condition, as they know they will get another club no problem and above average signing on fee.

Its the signings from Accrington Stanley you’d have to be concerned about

Good to see Liam Henderson back at Lennoxtown – hope he gets plenty of chances under BR.

Approaching make or break time for him at Celtic, having been out on loan with Rosenborg and Hibs. I’d persevere with him. Scores goals and can cross a ball. Anyone watching the Euros will see evidence of how the art of crossing a ball is not what it should be…

Niko Kranjčar (pronounced [nǐːko krâɲt͡ʃaːr]) (born 13 August 1984) is a Croatian footballer who is currently playing for the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League. He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also operate as a winger or second striker.he wears DAVID BECKHAM perfume and has slits in his denims at the knees.he is a ROMAN KAFLIK and goes to church daily.he says the rosary 5 times a day and has a MADONNA printed on his team shirt.

He represented two of the biggest clubs in his homeland, playing for Dinamo Zagreb before sparking controversy by making a move to their fierce rivals Hajduk Split in January 2005.[2] A transfer to England with Portsmouth soon followed in August 2006,[3] and after several years of attempting to hold on to their key players,[4][5][6] Portsmouth decided to sell him at the start of the 2009–10 season, opening the way for a move to Tottenham in September 2009, where he was reunited with his former manager at Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp.[7]

Hailed as the next Robert FLECK, Kranjčar was given his international debut by his father Zlatko in August 2004.[8] Since then, Kranjčar has represented his country in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008 and UEFA Euro 2012. So far he has won 81 caps for the Croatia national team, scoring 16 goals in the process. His latest match for the national team was on 15 October 2013, and he missed 2014 FIFA World Cup because of an injury.RAB is currently JETTING into SEVCO’S training ground at AUCHINLOCH furra medical and a photo shoot.asked to name his favourite SEVCO player he replied”greigy harold davis bobby shearer n.BAZZA”..he then gave the finger to waiting fans .

  14. Many thanks for the words of encouragement re Mrs TET this morning, what a difference when you see a specialist, esp one who listens and is open to suggestion :-)

    Thanks Bhoys.

  15. If I was Brendan Rodgers…..

    First thing I would be trying to sell/offload Mulgrew (0), Fisher (0), Commons (0), Ambrose (1.5m), Ciftci (0.75m), Scepovic (1.25m), Izaguirre (0.5m), Allen (0.75m) and Mackay-Steven (0.75m).

I would try and offer Forrest, Johansen and Rogic new contracts. I know Forrest and Johansen are coming off terrible seasons but they are both internationals capable of playing at that level when on form. If any of them don’t sign I would add them to offload/ sell list. We probably will have to sell one of Johansen/ Bitton to fund new signings anyway.

Moving forward that would leave us with a squad of 20: Gordon, Bailly, Janko, Lustig, Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Boyata, Tierney, Ajer, Bitton, Johansen, Brown, Henderson, Roberts, Forrest, Christie, Rogic, Armstrong, McGregor and Griffiths.

3-4 quality new signings (striker, left midfielder with goals in him, sub left back + 1) on top of that would have us in a good place.

Take you point with regard to certain quality players running fown their contracts.

I was alluding to the Accrington Stanley and the mid to late thirties type, looking for a final pay day.

In saying that, at the moment, many clubs e.g. Ross & ICT bring them from non-league and Irish leagues, straight into their first team.

The outlook worries me in the long run – to use horse racing vernacular – if you only have to win a ‘seller’, you don’t buy and train a Group One thoroughbred.

  18. NIALLO83 on 22ND JUNE 2016 4:35 PM

I’d keep Izzy ahead of Forrest (if we can). For years we struggled to get a single decent LB, and as soon as we have 1 good one (KT) and decent cover (EI) people want to throw one away. KT’s young the chances of a form drop are quite high, or if he gets injured we’d be back to the old days.
