Eye’s oversight

596

You could be forgiven for losing track of Scottish football issues of governance, accountability and oversight, there are so many fronts to engage on. On the heels of CQN approaching Private Eye on the subject of Resolution 12 (granting of licences to participate in Uefa competitions), the newspaper today wrote about the recent Offshore Game Report on the SFA’s dealings with oldco Rangers’ tax affairs, the SPL Commission into Rangers, as well as the awarding of Uefa licences in 2011.

This is what functioning oversight looks like. Organisations with a platform to analyse those in power do so. In the Scottish goldfish bowl, we import oversight from London, which makes accountability difficult and, ultimately, makes governance ineffective.

No review of the Nimmo Smith Commission will take place until the Supreme Court has had their say, but any hopes of accountability you have at that point will rest in interest in the matter from London. We simply don’t have the structures in place here.

  2. Ronaldo – sometimes the difference between a very good and successful sportsman/individual is a touch of arrogance – Cristiano is a great sportsman and from what we read – a decent human being.

  3. The remaining orders for Res12tance T-shirts will all be sent out this week.

There are now no more available and the promotion has ended.

Thank you to everyone who purchased one. This has now successfully funded the cost of the legal fees associated with the submission to UEFA.

One shirt was sent to Wullie Currie last week. May he rest in peace.

  8. Thierry Henri says Portugal bench sent a note to Ronaldo and he believed it said “Play out for the draw”.

Danny Murphy said, “I find tgat strange cos surely they’d want to avoid England.”

Sometimes arrogance can be so funny to behold.

Lineker and Ferdinand so delighted they don’t have to play Portugal that they can barely speak. Then try to pretend they weren’t bothered!

  10. In their usual arrogance the English have already written off Iceland. They will be a more difficult opponent than Portugal who are a one man vanity project with an over the hill, suspect defence. Iceland will play against them the way Slovakia did, defend in numbers and try to hit them on the break. England should still win but will be more difficult than they think, and a defeat (on pens ;-)) wouldn’t be a surprise.

  11. Ireland make four changes, new centre back pairing

    Randolph

    Coleman Keogh Duffy Ward

    McClean Hendrick McCarthy Brady

    Murphy Long

Interested in seeing how Duffy plays, seen a few Celtic supporters suggesting he’s one we should be looking to sign

  12. Gary67 –

To be honest, when I watched England v Slovakia, I actually wanted England to win, but over the 90 minutes, I thought England were very poor. Their basic ball skills were suspect and their passing and movement in the final third were woeful.

You tend to really notice the lack of basic skills more when you are seeing them perform among the more technically gifted continentals and it stands out a mile.

England’s biggest problem going forward is their paucity in front of goal and Iceland can beat them. I’d prefer England to win, if only to see them up against a Spain or a Germany in the last 8.

Have to say I want England to lose every time they play. Probably more because of their arrogant press/media than the overrated players in their team. They are usually involved in decent games at major competitions but still want to see them lose.

  14. Interesting situation tonight.

    Albania 3rd place already out.

It’s between Ireland and Turkey to see who goes through.

Any win for Ireland and they go through. Any other result and it’s Turkey prigressing to last 16.

    Ireland can do this.
