FA Prem goes international below Uefa radar

793

The existence of the Premier League International Cup, a tournament for under-21s, which the FA Premier League launched this is a fascinating development.  It’s a toe in the water for the Premier League who are running a multi-nation tournament out-with the auspices of Uefa.  A consequence of excluding the European governing body is that all games must be played in the territory of England and Wales, despite Celtic and seven others of the 16 teams residing outside that region.

Uefa retain exclusive rights to hold tournaments across multiple territories, although this definition accommodates the existence of the Welsh FA and Welsh teams participation in competitions run by the English FA.

The Premier League has a broken business model which they have been unable to resolve for a decade of more, as they hae studiously avoided growth in their key TV revenue stream stalling.  When it does, innovative solutions will be required.

As far as Celtic are concerned, I’m delighted we’re there.  In the absence of NextGen this will be a valuable addition to the youth players’ development this season.

Foundation News:

I’m up for the Zip Slide from the top of the Jock Stein Stand to pitch level in front of the Lisbon Lions’.  Never done anything as ridiculous in my life but it’s a one-off opportunity for a fee of £30 plus a commitment to raise £125 for the Foundation.

Pile in here, if you’re brave enough for the Celtic Park pitch…………

Not had more than a glance at the annual report yet. Statements dated 12 September? Hmmm.

Celtic will not and should not be allowed into England.

A lot of those who support this notion support it for monetary reasons alone.

The English football model has plenty of growth potential.

I see the annual report is out with full Director salaries details. Nice wee £500k bonus thank you very much. Ker-ching, butstill shy of that magic million though and a £100 year on year sacrifice.

Yes, it does unfortunately their growth involves carpetbagging and encroaching on other nation’s football. The 26 counties being a prime example.

  5. English football model won’t allow in CFC in a million years unless forced to do so politically.

I agree they have plenty of growth ahead. The 39th game will come to fruition. All other domestic leagues will suffer because of it. The gulf will grow- the income for the EPL from broadcasting abroad will outstrip their domestic income soon.

We are pretty much competing with England League 1 now, just about.

Apologies, From a previous post, I got the impression you wanted them back to further currupt our game in this Country…..really pleased that you are not one the ‘o.. firm brigade HH………AND FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY YOU, AND OTHERS WOULD STILL GO TO SUPPORT THE CELTIC…..

However, I’m sure you will understand that some, like myself, will never want to enter the same stadium as that hate-filled / vile lot…..I am really enjoying supporting my Club in a non-corrupt league …….and……it was bad enough spending a lot of money on supporting Celtic when I SUSPECTED corruption ……now, with James Forrest etc revealing the ongoing corruption, and the SPFA / ignoring it to get their favoured crew back, I will have an issue continuing to spend over £2k per season to shore up a corrupt SPFL …….

Hopefully, though, the Law will catch up with all of them soon……funny how we’ve heard NOTHING from BDO / HMRC ………!!!!!!!!????

I was engaged in a Twitter conversation yesterday with TBB when he said with 100% accuracy

    ” TBB · 22h22 hours ago

@STVGrant SFA/SPL blew it when they put the commercial worth of the Game before it’s values. Without its Values the Game has no worth at all”

My response was that I think most supporters expect their club to reflect their values (hence our relative success compared to our former main rivals) and that Celtic, because of the ethos we lay claim to, which reflects high values, are in the greatest danger of not standing up for what is ethical.

Other clubs might be happy with good results/performances but as “more than a club” we set ourselves higher targets.

Sooner or later a stand has to be made to protect those values or we become just another club.

I’m not sure how many others see it in that way but it seems to me that the last thing that can be allowed to happen is for Celtic to diminish because they did not stand up for the values we all here fall out about, then fall in about, but above all cherish.

Total SFA reform, driven by clubs who value ethics more than money is required.

There has not been a greater opportunity to do so than now. James Forrest has put the spotlight on where all clubs problems lie. The rules system in place depended solely on trust and Rangers FC broke that mould. That will come out undeniably.

A similar situation cannot be allowed in our game again and all clubs, not just Celtic, although we have probably the most to lose, had better waken up to the jeopardy they are putting the game into by not governing in a fit and proper manner.

But what else can you expect when the President fails that criteria?

  8. Paul67

Is there anything to prevent similar next year but hosted in North Britain ? Or West Britain ?

  9. Correction.

“which reflects high values, are in the greatest danger FROM not standing up for what is ethical.”

  10. Yet another Celtic move into English league article. It’s not going to happen. Why we waste so much time talking about this is beyond me.

Is keef dakshun stooping to incite racial tension in the lead up to what should be reported as a potentially fantastic contest between Ireland and Scotland…!!??……or is it the wording of the header being slanted to generate interest ?……in other words, a cheap shot / ploy …. !!??

The game you may be thinking of:

January 3rd 1976, Celtic 3 Dundee 3. GS played but didn’t score although he certainly scored plenty for Aberdeen against us.

Thanks for that. I can just remember it was dark and I thought midweek. Had also thought he’d scored, but if not he certainly made an impression.

    —————————————————-

Why should Celtic not be allowed to compete in England. It is where the best teams in these Islands play.

It is not monetary reasons alone ( although that will be a by product ) it is to play in a more competitive environment that is befitting of our status.

Unless we join an English or European league then our downsizing is guaranteed to continue. Regardless of what fiscal policy PL & DD embark on.

We have simply outgrown our domestic set up in both infrastructure and ambition, not to mention “sporting integrity”.

Yes the English model has plenty of growth potential and in terms of achieving that potential the biggest asset would be Celtic. Mutual reward.

Our viewing figures across the globe would match the best of the top three EPL clubs and our club could once again reconnect with our Irish support.

We owe the SFA and Scottish football nothing and this would be the ideal scenario to demonstrate our disgust for their actions.

We pay top prices, so why not play top teams.

The same dismissive tone is used by pundits on tabloid radio every night. “UEFA will never allow it”. I’m not sure if they realise about the joint Ukraine-Russia set up that will in the pipeline (don’t know how the political situation has affected this).

The biggest obstacle as far as I’m concerned is convincing the English clubs and police that it is worthwile letting us in. I think some sort of European Leauge set up is maybe more likely but either way change is coming. The leagues are evolving slowy but surely. The pundits are terrified by the thought of change or maybe they are just too daft and lazy to consider it. Celtic may not be part of it but they will have strong a case for being involved and I certainly hope they are.
