FA Prem goes international below Uefa radar

793

The existence of the Premier League International Cup, a tournament for under-21s, which the FA Premier League launched this is a fascinating development.  It’s a toe in the water for the Premier League who are running a multi-nation tournament out-with the auspices of Uefa.  A consequence of excluding the European governing body is that all games must be played in the territory of England and Wales, despite Celtic and seven others of the 16 teams residing outside that region.

Uefa retain exclusive rights to hold tournaments across multiple territories, although this definition accommodates the existence of the Welsh FA and Welsh teams participation in competitions run by the English FA.

The Premier League has a broken business model which they have been unable to resolve for a decade of more, as they hae studiously avoided growth in their key TV revenue stream stalling.  When it does, innovative solutions will be required.

As far as Celtic are concerned, I’m delighted we’re there.  In the absence of NextGen this will be a valuable addition to the youth players’ development this season.

Foundation News:

I’m up for the Zip Slide from the top of the Jock Stein Stand to pitch level in front of the Lisbon Lions’.  Never done anything as ridiculous in my life but it’s a one-off opportunity for a fee of £30 plus a commitment to raise £125 for the Foundation.

Pile in here, if you’re brave enough for the Celtic Park pitch…………

Not had more than a glance at the annual report yet. Statements dated 12 September? Hmmm.

    Big cup winners, good evening,

I share your concerns but trying to enter the English Premiership whorehouse will bring only nasty EPLs such as debt or Cashley Coleitis.

We can improve via the CL.

BMCUW, I am just too young too remember Alfie. I’d be interested to hear from the guys on here what the reaction was to Alfie signing for us. I bet the deidco fans gave him a hard time. He must have been that era’s version of McGeady.

I’m pretty sure Corkcelt isn’t a hun too. But he could’ve been ☺.

  11. BT, he is a cruel man that BMCUWP’s.

….PFAyr, revolutions take time, and don’t always come in a single wave.

Ronny will get there, he needs time, and support.

Neither of those are in infinite supply of course, but 8/9 league games isn’t enough to judge.

  19. Good evening all.

I’m so pleased so many of you are of the same opinion as myself. We have a very poor team at present. Why? Celtic had the best defensive record in the UK last season, we now must have near enough the worst. We have the same backbone of that defence but with one addition, who has proved himself worthy of the job. Our midfield last season was superb, as where our forwards and strikers. I am so angry, as an ordinary ST holder and passionate supporter, what is happening to my team? Our players appear to have lost all sense of direction or any kind of will to win. Can anyone see a common denominator?

Anyhoos, how is everyone tonight, I hope you are all well. :-)))

    BMCUW, DOC, and DD,

If anything I would have expected a backlash from deidco fans. It makes sense that the “businessmen” took him under their wings.

Tbh I don’t remember much of Alfie as a player, saw some footage. I recall he played in the Scottish Cup final when Andy Lynch scored the winner from the penalty spot?

Can’t have been easy for him.

Really nice post, one of very few on here these days, cheers

  23. Hugh Dallas Fae Bonkle, I remember very little, he played only a few times, from memory. Scored a handful of goals, but I don’t remember any disgruntled comments.

I was only ten at the time though.

BMCUWP’s will fill you in on details, he is much older:-)

  24. DD,

They’re only sitters if we have the players up front having a bad day in front of the goals.

To me, it’s too regular, part down to our quality of strikers!

I hate being negative about Celtic but our outlay was £2,500,000 on a striker that has warmed the bench.

To be really honest, most supporters I speak to off the blog reckon, the huns could beat us now with a little help from their friends…maybe that’s the crux of the matter.

Howdy, bud. Aye,there’s definitely something far wrong.

The defence had better protection last year, but that doesn’t even begin to explain the problem

But what might illustrate it is that our keeper is probably our best player so far.

  31. Hugh Bonkie & BMCUW, Its perfectly true every male in my family for hundreds of years were masons. The type of masons who build houses & Churches. I assume its the same in Scotland but in Ireland for centuries Trades were restricted to families. You could not get accepted into a Trade unless your father was in the Trade. Even to this day most of my male cousins are masons by Trade. The Family thing is gone now and Trades are open to everyone but its only in the last 40 years or so that this has happened. I’m a Shinner & a Celt never a Hun.
