Failing up in football

330

European football news this week featured Vincent Kompany “failing up”.  After overseeing Burnley’s relegation from the topflight of English football, the affable Belgian was appointed manager of Bayern Munich.  Charm gets you places, people!

Hot on the heels of that, the Newco chief executive James Bisgrove handed in his resignation, he’s off to work his magic in Saudi.  If Bisgrove ever gives a seminar on job interview technique, sign up.  This is the guy who, as commercial director, booked Newco at the Sydney tournament in 2022 for less than half the fee Celtic’s commercial director, Adrian Filby, negotiated.

Newco are both delighted at Bisgrove’s work in his various roles at the club, and totally OK that he’s moving on.  Suggestions that churning through three managers and three chief execs in 18 months is a sign of a club in perpetual crisis is unworthy of you.

I seem to remember that Henrik was on about £40,000 a week at Celtic and ge would have gone to just over £50,000… How much could Celtic pay him now compared to the EPL… or sadly the Championship. The difference in wages now is the biggest barrier to Celtic keeping players especially the ones who will happily sit in the reserves of a mid table premiership team whilst making multiple millions a year.

  7. Dear oh dear,I see Mr Forrest trying to have a pop at me on his Blog, for having a pop at what he put on yesterday. He does not like to be pulled up,does Mr Forrest.Only brain dead sycophants survive on his comments section.Have a read.Doing everything but denying he said” 12 million is a lot of money,we could get 3 or 4 in for that”But he did..This from a guy demanding the Celtic Board back BR to the hilt with” Quality signings.Calmac has come out personally and said we must sign Bernardo.Fits every criteria.James not really agreeing with our Captain, thinks there is better out there.Unlike James,I won’t be dogmatic, and refute that.Maybe there is.

Unless you are lucky,Kyogo,Hatate,Maeda,Ange knowledge,or Jota,CCV,projects that came good, buying quality costs money.

  8. For his name is McNamara he’s the Celtic Bhoys right back his forte it is turning defence into attack

    Yip get your drift.

Odsonne Edouard on 70k a week, – Celtic cannot compete with that if we are to be a viable profitable business operating on buying from within what we earn.

It’s where we score over our only domestic rival, who are already being scrutinised by FSR. Celtic could easily afford to buy ‘oven ready’ CL players but paying them the type of wages they could earn elsewhere is not possible, hence Eddy being our record buy some time ago.

Of course pot 4 teams across Europe don’t tend to pay EPL type wages, and we must find a balance, even if it means special rates for special players like Henrik Larsson.

  10. It’s always been operation GTF out of Scotland

Whilst its nice to skelp the huns year in year out this last decade

We all know we are operating in a broken model

We will always be finding gems and polishing them

Then watching them dissapear over the border

Be good to keep those players and build a team worth making a dent in europe

    The roll of honour today

BRRB, Calton Tongues, Leggy, Disco Deek, SFTB, An Tearmann, the Lurking Tim, Carpe Diem, BelmontBrian, Fred Colon. A fine bunch of Celtic fellows.

  12. So what do we do?

    the model has brought us-

    MO’R

    Starfelt ‘n CCV

    Frimpong

    Wanyama

the advanced model has given us

FF and big JH and with a bit of luck KF and Hatate

which has been added to the Tierney, calmac, JF

which has been added to broonie, stuart armstrong etc……

so, in short the model has been successful by most measures.

So what the f do we do?

The Keane , Graveson, Keane model has been shown to be a dead end

    Darned if I know!

How did Celtic Ladies manage to win their league?

    —–

    Yip SFTB.

    Remarkable.

Not dissimilar to the Lisbon Lions.

How Jock managed to win the big one with a bunch of guys who struggled to get into the Scotland team was a mystery.

  16. HORSE RACING….IF NOT interested just scroll on by…

I had a good day at EPSOM yesterday with some Winners at odds of 11/2 ( Twice), 9/2 ( Three Lines) and 7/2 ( Early Odds ).

The BEST Bet was ” The Big Race…” THE OAKS” at 4.30. I had the Winner on Three separate Lines, but I also managed to get the STRAIGHT FORECAST ( Twice) with Two different Bookies.

The FORECAST Paid £48.35 for a £1.00 Stake.

    Not too shabby.

    LOL
