Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

And so now the talk is of a 25 point penalty being applied three years in a row …

Which part of this do people – maybe even some of the people at our OWN CLUB – not understand??

The RULES are the RULES or there are NO RULES.

If Rangers go out of business the registration is available and would be put up for tender. The club which takes that license, as with every other occasion in which such a license has become available STARTS IN DIVISON 3.

No punishment invented on the back of a fag packet will suffice. No punishment short of that which exists already should be considered.

This effort to find an “acceptable” level of punishment SHORT OF WHAT THEY DESERVE and short of what would happen to EVERY OTHER CLUB IN THE LAND – INCLUDED CELTIC – is a waste of their and our time.

    NOTE TO CELITC:

The RULES must be followed. As they stand right now. The rest is absolute nonsense.

RobertTressell – Vote Yes for Strike Action on 30th November – Do you like Chicken Chasni?

You were saying earlier that ‘punitive taxation’ discourages the rich and damages the economy. In other words you think the government should ‘incentivise’ the rich so as they don’t go to the Cayman Islands for real instead of just sending their mail there, BUT you think they shouldn’t give incentives to encourage less well off people? You rail against public services and the cost of them but don’t want the government to take measures to lessen the burdens and costs on the NHS by encouraging better diets, less drinking and less smoking? It is utter childishness to suggest that people can do what they want to themselves and it is no one elses business. You are flying in the face of the religion you profess to practice too.

My poor, confused friend, that is a pretty poor rant by your standards. I am used to dining on better fare.

Let’s see if we can break it down into Chicken Chasni sized chunks, with some creamy Sag Bhaji and a freshly baked Peshwari Nan on the side:

You were saying earlier that ‘punitive taxation’ discourages the rich and damages the economy

‘Yes’ ‘it’ ‘does’. You can put any amount of scare quotes around it that you wish, but it is an empirical fact. Comment is free and facts are sacred, and all that.

In other words you think the government should ‘incentivise’ the rich so as they don’t go to the Cayman Islands for real instead of just sending their mail there

No, I merely commented on the futility of punitive levels of tax, since they disincentivise economic activity and encouraging tax avoidance, thereby defeating the purpose behind them (unless that purpose is merely to slake a crude, inchoate desire for class warfare, consequences be damned).

BUT you think they shouldn’t give incentives to encourage less well off people?

Actually, if you had bothered to read what I wrote before clambering atop your high horse, you would have seen that quite the opposite is true. I even explained how the government can best help the poor.

You rail against public services and the cost of them but don’t want the government to take measures to lessen the burdens and costs on the NHS by encouraging better diets, less drinking and less smoking?

Yes, because, as previous, we don’t elect governments to be our substitute parents. The State isn’t Mummy or Daddy, it’s not their job to tell us how to live our lives. Following your logic it would be OK if they installed cameras into every home to make sure the citizens did their morning star-jumps before breakfast, because it would reduce the costs on the NHS (God bless it, envy of the world). State services exist for the benefit of we, the taxpayers. Not the other way around.

It is utter childishness to suggest that people can do what they want to themselves and it is no one elses business.

No, it’s called being an adult. You get to live your life as you see fit so long as you obey the law. Do you see?

You are flying in the face of the religion you profess to practice too.

What a puritanical, authoritarian little prig you are Robert.

I think we get enough moralising from religious figures, ergo we don’t need it from politicians or from other self-appointed arbiters of what’s best for other people.

So wind your neck in. (thumbsup)

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

I dare you, my ‘friend’ Philvis, to read your reply to me again, this time recalling the lessons you were taught in the use of ‘logic’ when you were at Hogwarts Acadamy for the Hard of Understanding and then point out to yourself the obvious flaws in each and every one of your replies to my points.

I think I shall leave it at that; you have, yet again exposed yourself as a wannabe Boris Johnson. Particularly on your last point.

If you really cannot see it then, well, your quite simply an educated man who is just not very smart.

Have a pleasant Halloween. Although it is entirely your choice whether or not you do (don’t write to Liberty about me!)

  7. James Forrest – In my own myopic little world, I had never heard of this rangers newco proposal until I read it right here on CQN. Now whether it’s the source or merely a vector, it’s playing a part in putting the proposal in the public domain. I’ll leave you to ponder whether that’s for good or for ill.

We seem to have proposed a theory, then all spent the next two weeks discussing and agreeing why it can’t possibly be allowed to happen. While other more sympathetic outlets have picked up on all our theorising and given it a more rangers-orientated slant.

What puzzles me is how anyone can have got a lead on the proposed strategy of a company which doesn’t exist yet, and whose owners aren’t identified yet. Did someone simply blue-sky this whole thing up?

I hope for those ‘newer’ bloggers of the last few years can appreciate how far things have fallen for Paul’s glass to have finally been tipped half empty.

He used to be the eternal optimist – much to the frustration of some.

Now its time for others to face up to reality.

All successful teams by in large have the right recipe of ingredients , which blended together helps to make that success.

Some ingredients are so miniscule some might disregard them as an irrelevance, to their ultimate peril in my opinion.

I am going to give you one such ingredient which to some on here may seem like that miniscule and irrelevance, however to me is something significant.

The Celtic players not being at Celtic Park every day before and after training.

Again in my opinion you can not underestimate the significance of how a modern day footballer’s ‘mind’ / ‘feeling of self worth’ is affected with the adulation that follows a big win, from the fans Monday – Friday.

It must have them feeling 10 feet tall all week long – and come the next match day that confidence must transcend onto the pitch from kick off.

Equally – and as important, is the look on those same faces after a poor result. On top of that, they would have that beautiful Glasweigen elegance, in how they tell you to your face exactly, to a word – what is on their mind!

What better way for those players to see and hear exactly what they contributed to.

It makes them feel a part of Celtic and Celtic more a part of them.

Its something which that at a prawn sandwich club like Man Utd probably wouldnt make any difference.

However, as those of you from the sweaty sock land will know more than me – the sight of a Gallowgate pensioner in his 30’s with a stench of booze strong enough to make you fail a urine sample walking up to you and telling you with every 4 letter word in the dictionary that he was less than impressed with your previous performance – would prey on the deaf!

Hope to God that’s not true….but hardly a surprise. It’s what they do.

Maybe Christine Grahame should be looking at more simple statistics than the ones her and ilk are so good at not losing. For example, comparing how many times Celtic Management staff and players have been victims of assault compared with any other club in Scotland.

  17. The Moon Bhoys on

I agree completely, whoever approved the appointment of Lenny & co is culpable and should resign, who in their right mind would put 4 complete management rookies in charge of all team affairs, an incompetent person that’s who. On here the hun accusations fly around quite freely without any basis whatsoever, well I put it to you that a hun couldn’t have done a better job of sabotage on us than that.

Presumably it was the same incompetent who agreed when Lenny told him he didn’t need a mentor. If the rookie manager of any football club ever needed mentor it was obvious it was ours, Celtic is not the club to be gambling with to that extent. Financially competent they maybe but that’s where the competence ends.

And you cant blame Lenny for taking the job and trying to get his mates in as assistants, most of of us given the same opportunity would do the same. Our problems run a lot deeper than Lenny and co, whoever is making these negligent management appointment decisions will have to go before our lot improves.

Total try-on. They put one toe in the bath last week with the 25 point deduction story. It was obviously un-officially greeted with a big NO THANKS from the others. Now it’s 25 points for three years. Mmmmm. They’d still be in the SPL and enjoying the financial benefits as opposed to spending three years trying to get in , and the financial consequences of trying to maintain an SPL set-up throughout.

They are attempting to exploit the fact that there are rules (and I use the word loosely given the debacle with the refs last season), which appear to be written in pencil.

The EUFA rules and the Corporate Law rules are written in ink. That’s where we should be focusing our attention.

  19. Is there any chance of the following happening ?

    Broon comes back

Kayal doesn’t have to do a couple of jobs and his overall performances improve

Wanyama is told to break up anything 10 to 20 yards in front of our 18 yard box

Mulgrew and Rogne benefit from the clear roles ahead of them and kick the crap out of the little round thing if it comes near our box

The forwards realise there won’t be any harum scarum stuff during the match, calm the fupp down, start defending in the opposition 18 yard box and pressurise the hell out of the opposition

We go on a good run of results

There is apparently a winding up petition in circulation this evening seeking the appointment of a provisional liquidator. I am told it is a petition by a creditor on the basis of alleged inability to pay debts as they fall due. That in turn suggests an undisputed debt which is well overdue but has just not been paid, no doubt while Whyte “looks closely” at it.

It may just be someone making a bit of noise to try to get the attention of the necessary people in order to get paid a relatively modest sum of money. But depending on whether and if so when it is presented it might have the potential to force Whyte’s hand. It would be a gutsy call for a judge to put in a provisional liquidator, but this is exactly the sort of case for which they are designed.

    the moon bhoys,

    100% agree.

But a lot of celtic fans are culpable too, especially in the light of the rookie traumas of brady and barnes. I was mocked on this forum the day Neil was appointed when I said the board had no business appointing a rookie as manager of Celtic FC. Some of us were too fast to let our hearts rule our heads and let themselves be shafted.

Lawwell has pulled some stunts in his time, but turning up at supporters events with Lennon (a fans’ hero) sitting beside him, and asking, ‘who do you want as next manager?’ really took the biscuit. Someone at one of those meetings should have stood up and said ‘no offence neil, I’d love to see you as boss one day, but we need someone with experience, and Mr Lawwell you have no right resorting to such emotional blackmail.’

By the way, like you I also don’t blame Lenny one bit. He thought he could do the job and he knew he might never get the chance again, so he took it. God bless you Neil.
