Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

  1. If Neil Lennon is playing to win on both Thursday and Sunday he may want to consider himself Alan Thomson and Johan Mjalbys for first team selection in front of of some of the imposters who will no doubt be in the starting line up no matter what

And for the benefit of the team he may also want to consider burying his differences with Commons and give him a starting berth

Ps you know who you are no apologies for last night

  2. My last post was to Murdochboy.

MWD I want to win both games but if given a choice, a victory against well on Sunday for me, we ain’t good enough for Europe this season and it’s affecting our performances in the league.

I understand where you’re coming from but at this particular juncture we need to get some consistency and for that sole reason I think NL needs to pick his strongest team for Thursday and make it categorically clear a win is the only acceptable result. We need this team to get settled and overcome their fragile confidence by winning matches.

I don’t think we can cherry pick which matches we want to win, the players need to acquire a winners mindset and that means approaching every match with an uncompromising will to WIN.

  4. There’s been a lot of calls to play some of the youngsters on Thursday night. How much younger can the first team be? The average age on Saturday was under 23. I would like to see McGeogh, George, Watt etc, but the time to do that is when we have a settled, consistant team with a bit more experience in it. The worst thing we could do is throw in promising young talent into the first team just now, especially at Celtic Park, where they would be crucified by the moaners in our crowd as soon as they made one misplaced pass.

  5. Murdochboy, I don’t know which way our manager will view it and I’ll be interested which way he does set out his team on Thursday/ Sunday.

In my head it’s simply to concentrate on the important 3 points, Neil will feel the pressure to put on a performance on Thursday, so who knows?

Cheers for the reply and HH to ye!

I’m looking forward to Thursday’s game as I’m hopeful it’ll be the season’s turning point.

    Gotta go.

  7. Kayal33 if we go on a decent run in the league with a settled team then the young uns have no chance of getting on the park as we’ll be looking to win the league, this is an opportunity for 1 or 2 of the young team IMO, re the moaners well who cares about them …. Not me, they’re part of the problem, in the old days in the jungle we used to lift our team by encouraging them and supporting. The newco support obviously don’t get it :>)

ps not saying you’re one of them by any means.

I am predicting and expecting Celtic to win on Thursday night,in Europe, and again on Sunday at Fir Park.

Good luck and best wishes to Lenny and all the players.

Show them we can do this.

In a settled, winning team, they can be introduced one or two at a time, get first team experience over the season with less pressure than throwing them into a shambles like we have at present. Jock Stein managed to introduce the likes of Dalglish, McGrain, Hay, Connolly etc. over a period of a few years into the most successful team in our history.

  10. Maybe if Neil Lennon was playing to win both Thursday/Sunday he would be big enough to ask for some help and let us know who he is asking for the same help

There is no shame in asking for help

There are people on this blog most days asking for help when the have difficulty in fathoming out a problem they are incapable of solving themselves

    Hi,

Can someone please copy and post the latest article from Rangerstaxcase blog, as I can’t access the link from work?

    Thanks in advance

  13. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

Try the youngsters on Thursday… If that doesn’t work, we can give the ball boys a run out on Sunday?

I think we need experience, I thought that for last 4 transfer windows but experience never came…

Get Commons in, get Hooper out( for a rest), give Paddy a chance, play Sammi in midfield…Kayal steps up in mid with Vic, Mulgrew at the back, stokes up front… We might just see some character coming through. These guys need to realize they are playing for CELTIC and their careers..

  14. Celtic rumours just tweeted ” expect to see Kris Commons return to the side this week”

We have to give it a go against Rennes, a victory there would do wonders for the team and their confidence..

    In amongst them Celts!!

A foggy start to the day in the valley…

  15. I don`t believe there are as many Hunfiltrators an here as some seem to think. What I do believe, though, is that there are many who behave like Huns and reflect the changing nature of the Celtic support. For me, Celtic are not just my team. They represent something. Because of that, winning is not as important to me as it is to some others. As long as Celtic continue to represent what I believe in, I will continue to support, “win, lose or draw”. If they cease to be that entity, I will no longer support them even were they to win everything. Pretty simple, really.

My last post seemed to cause a bit of confusion on the Interwebs. I guess that the big cheesy ironic grin on my face did not translate to these dull, grey pages. Some seemed to think that I was saying that Sir David Murray is poised to make a comeback in the lives of Rangers supporters. In fact, I was suggesting nothing more than he has the ability to selflessly act to help Rangers. I say selflessly because there is no path for Murray to return the £1 he received for his shares. For the avoidance of doubt (a phrase we will meet again), Sir David Murray’s only path back to Rangers is to buy his way back in. There is more chance of Neil Lennon wanting to own Rangers than Murray. That part of the club’s history is well and truly over. (Few seem to understand the extent to which Murray has lost control of MIH and its subsidiaries. It was Lloyds who wanted a deal with Whyte on these terms.) Before moving off this subject entirely, we will take a look at some of the other details of the contract that sold Rangers to Craig Whyte’s Wavetower.

A section of the Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) labelled 8. CONDUCT OF THE TAX CASE sheds light on how the (Big) Tax Case is being managed now and clarifies who is responsible for what. I will summarise this section below:

■The Seller (i.e. Murray MHL Limited) is responsible for negotiating with HMRC “and agreeing a full and final settlement of the Tax Case on behalf of the Company”

■Rangers shall not make any admission of liability regarding the Tax Case without the written permission of MHL.

■Rangers shall make no attempt to communicate directly with HMRC regarding the (Big) Tax Case

■MHL is paying for all of the legal costs of Rangers’ appeal and Rangers must use MHL’s chosen advisers / lawyer

■Rangers promised to not terminate the employment of Key Witnesses- one of whom is Martin Bain!

■Rangers still have the right to settle with HMRC on terms of its choosing (presumably communicated through MHL)

We can discuss the significance of these points (and its apparent contradictions) in the replies section of this blog).

After a seemingly coordinated attack on bloggers from the mainstream media this weekend, I was especially tickled to read that the SPA also states:

For the avoidance of doubt, the Seller shall not be required to make any payment on behalf of the Company in respect of the Tax Case.

This will doubtless be a revelation to the long line of print and radio hacks who reassured Rangers fans for months with tales that David Murray (personally or through the company that bears his name) would pay any tax liability. I have been keeping an electronic scrap-book where I maintain clippings of the articles and audio from these professional beacons of truth. It will make a fun coda to this project to post this material online once the dust has settled. This site can become a permanent monument to quite how wrong Tom English, James Traynor et al have been for so long. We will also be able to compare their writings of late to the early revelations of this blog. Interesting? Maybe not, but it will amuse me no end.

After finally keeping a clean sheet, andlooking pretty solid defensively on Saturday, I wouldn’t change the back 5. The only change would be swap the full backs over, Adam on the right, Mark on the left. Ledley MUST play centre midfield, and I’d partner him with Wanyama. Kayal. If Commons is fit he should return. I would drop Hooper and Stokes after Saturday and play with one up front, Sammi (can’t believe I’m advocating his return). Give Paddy a start and tell him prove he’s a first choice first teamer and not a sub.

Your team is too “attack minded” sir.

McCourt and Commons are not the answer for this game;they can be lazy, lack pace and won’t tackle back.

Granted, your team will score goals, but they will also concede.
