Four years after making his debut, that was Dane Murray’s second league appearance for Celtic. He has also played in five cup and qualifier games. So let’s be clear, yesterday’s defeat at Tynecastle is not on him. Dane was about as ready to play in that game as you or I.
Yesterday’s problem in central defence was a consequence of decisions elsewhere. Look at this analysis by Atreides on Twitter.

Gustaf Lagerbielke sits alongside four others in the elite Ball Playing Defenders category in Liga Portugal. To give you an idea of what that means, those others’ Transfermarkt values are: Inacio (Sporting) €45m, Debast (Sporting) €30m, Silva (Benfica) €32m, Kiwior (Porto on loan from Arsenal) €25m.
Lagerbielke hardly broke sweat for Braga at Celtic Park this month. He has the metrics of a potential top talent and Braga are developing that potential. He has exactly the profile of central defender we would be delighted if Celtic spent €10m on. He is sitting among players with values ranging from €25m to €45m, and we had him and threw him away. Had he been at Tynecastle yesterday, Celtic would probably have won the match.
Then there’s Maik Nawrocki, who returned from injury for his first appearance of the season yesterday, when he strolled through a 0-3 win for Hannover 96 in 2 Bundesliga. I can only assume that Auston Trusty was on the bench for the third time since 2 October as he is not yet fit enough for even a Kieran Tierney-like return to action. Although, 24 days after appearing on the bench has the feel of a full preseason to it.
I wish I was confident of things improving in the January transfer window. Hearts will again spend a fraction of what Celtic spend, but are again likely to get far more for their money. I doubt that Celtic would even consider signing the profile of players who have put Hearts top of the league.
My biggest worry: if the most important man at the club right does not take responsibility, we will not improve. No more Honda Civic deflections, please. Until the boss says “This is my fault”, an excuse will always be found and failure is baked in.

Anyone in the frame ?
Careful what you wish for CFC.
Goodbye and thank you Brendan Rodgers. Some wonderful times and memories over two periods as manager, but sadly he seemed to have run out of ideas. New energy, approach and hopefully enthusiasm required.
Brendan has resigned apparently

Celtic Football Club can confirm that football manager Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation. It has been accepted by the Club and Brendan will leave his role with immediate effect.
The Club appreciates Brendan’s contribution to Celtic during his two very successful periods at the Club.
Brendan leaves Celtic with our thanks for the role he has played during a period of continued success for the Club and we wish him further success in the future.
The process to appoint a new permanent manager is underway and the Club will update supporters further on this as soon as possible.
We are pleased that during this interim period former Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill and former Celtic player, Shaun Maloney have agreed to take charge of Celtic first-team matters. Further details will be confirmed shortly.
Hail Hail
“Back him or Sack him”
It’s maybe too late…I think he’s gone already.
Lawwell should be the one away with the quiet man 😡
Brendan is one of our greatest ever managers. He obviously feels he’s can’t get any more out of the players and he has and has decided to step aside. I believe he is a true Celtic man.
Hoping Ange is brought back until the end of the season.
When I said earlier that MON was the board’s identikit manager I didn’t think they’d take me literally 😂
Brendan gone.
And breathe
Lawwell…Paul67…Burnley78…get their wish.
Welcome back Martin and Wee Shaun…
Interesting times…
Had a feeling of inevitability about it…hey ho…
well you got what you wished for but the wrong one has left.
Thank you Brendan Rodger’s for all the fantastic football memories, the amount of trophies won was exceptional.
Now over to our world class board and executive to deliver and deliver big time on our next manager, please no ‘back to the future’ appointment!
Perhaps we will know all about it later…..in book form. All the best Brendan for the good times we enjoyed with you as manager of CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB.
Elite manager who has my respect but lost his mojo. That rubbed over the team and the supporters. Complained too much about lack of signings but did t give board confidence he could ID a player. Few shots at goal against Kairat should have led to his sacking (and he was fired although not the official comms)
Martin O’Neil as interim is a concern since we do t have players that fit his playing style. Who do we want? Who can attract players in January.
I’m happy as this gives us best chance to bounce back – not guaranteed tho!!

Desmond statement this is going to get messy
The Board Are a Disgrace
The board are scum — they sit there doing nothing while Lawwell and his merry men get away with it again.
Every single board apologist helped cause this. You’ve sat on your arses for years defending these clowns while the club goes backwards.
Don’t try to dress it up — we as fans deserve so much better. This board have screwed over a manager who brought us success and genuinely wanted to keep us improving year after year.
They sold Idah and didn’t even bother replacing him. No ambition, no plan, no clue. They should be hounded out of the club. But instead, the same folk will get all giddy over the next appointment and let this board repeat the same mistakes again.
This lot are not fit to run Celtic Football Club. They’ve failed us time and time again. It’s about time we stop accepting it and start demanding real change.
Wow!
Brendan out Martin in!
Wow. That statement from Desmond. Wow.
A club in shambles but I’ve never read a character assassination like it. Will finish Rodgers in British football.
Wow.
Desmond not pulling any punches. Backing P67 to the core. Who would’ve thunk it!
Faithful through and through.
See you all on Wednesday night.
YNWA
Cue gushing lead tomorrow on how Shaun is super development focussed and were lucky that the Board has MON’s experience to call upon…
Brendan had to leave as it was toxic and distracting from the key issue of Board failings. Surprised the Board went for MON who remains a hero to many and if he is dragged down in all this creates yet more friction.
We definitely do not have the squad for MON’s style – no power, no height, and no good striker up top. Going to (still) be a slog.
Well feck me – just turned on the laptop.
Ironic, that the subject of the text below should step in now that we are driving on the hard shoulder.
How we laughed when they appointed Barry to unite the support.
“Speaking with a freedom that made him a chatterbox of gloom, he seemed to foresee a future of managing decline while Celtic cut their costs. O’Neill envisaged Henrik Larsson and others departing, and much smaller salaries available for supposed replacements who might prove inferior. “If it is the case, we’ll have to get used to life in the slow lane,” the manager said. Why, all the same, should he remain at the wheel of a club trundling nowhere in particular?
Angry fans feel duped but the Celtic board are no villains. Despite European runs that have raked in £20m in the past two seasons the accounts now show that the overdraft has crept higher, to £18m. The directors want to call a halt to the losses. It is not feasible to operate in the red every year and, if the club were eliminated from European competition at an early stage, the financial pain would be excruciating.
O’Neill can appreciate all of that, yet still refuse to have his own career stifled in the process”
I take it Kennedy is away ,that will be right 😡
Wonder what the 1st song will be on Wednesday.
The zioinist/establishment appeasing c*nts in the confy seats will be getting it both barrels.
DD hadn’t missed Brendan. I’m afraid Brendan’s smartarse nonsense has come back to bite him big time.

Wow. That statement from Desmond. Wow.
A club in shambles but I’ve never read a character assassination like it. Will finish Rodgers in British football.
Wow.
Sounds like rumours of no NDA are true and Desmond’s getting out early. Don’t think it will end Brendan’s career – it’s fairly obvious that we’re a bit rubbish and there’s ample “independent” folk saying that (Go Ahead sporting director for instance. Nicholson’s shrug).
Desmond rather undermines his lecture when he has the brass neck to say “every penny is invested in the club” when there’s literally tens of millions sitting in the bank that we don’t know what to do with!
That’s some statement from dermot. Throws Rodgers under a bus a train and a tank. I know Rodgers looks after Rodgers BUT I do know he asked for players in the summer and the board didn’t deliver.
I’d prefer dermot maintained council and get ahead of new manager – as it stands the media will have a field day and the negativity around our club will just get worse.
A few days back I read Brendan’s Honda Civic comment in disbelief.
Same tonight when I read Dermot’s statement.
These things are usually polite and anodyne.
PLB, as he often does, nailed it.
was MON in the shower when he was asked to come back ?
No way has BR signed an NDA, DD trying to get first punch in
Wow…..looks like some of us were right and the less cerebal were……..not right.
The guy was never a Celtic fan…..a money-daft, narcisstic, ego maniac that the lesscerebsl couldn’t see through.
We WILL win the league this season now.
Cany wait for Martin’s press conference tomorrow.
PeterLatchfordsBelly @ 10:17 pm,
Nonsense…
The Celtic hierarchy are a joke in European football.
No one in England takes a blind bit of notice about the “pub league”.
I’m sure Brendan refused to sign an NDA thos time.
So Celtic PLC are trying to get their revenge in first.
Brendan will not take this lying down.
The Toxic Board will be exposed for what they are….
This is not Celtic Football Club
This is Celtic PLC
Hail Hail
The Bada Bing @ 10:29 pm,
Great minds Eh!!
Fholk ought to remember it was the Celtic Executive who flew out to Brendan Rodgers holiday home and begged hom to come back to Celtic with false promises.
Brendan Rodgers delivered on every part of the deal and called out the charlatans for reneging.
Hail Hail
Oh dear. That all escalated very quickly and nastily. Sadly, Martin has had his day and has already said that Hearts will win the league. Maloney meanwhile is a failed manager. It’s all gone to cock.
Why is Desmond putting statements out and not the CEO?
I’d imagine BR will get an agreed payoff
