FALLEN IDOL ‘COULD RESURRECT CAREER’ AT CELTIC

JORDAN IBE could “resurrect his career” at Celtic in a transfer move that was first mentioned in CQN in August last year!

The 24-year-old former Liverpool winger will be up for grabs when he is released by Bournemouth only four years after the south coast outfit paid a club record £15million to lure him from Anfield.

London-born Ibe has been told his contract – believed to be in the region of £40,000-per-week – will not be renewed when it expires at the end of next month.

The player’s move to Eddie Howe’s side has flopped spectacularly with only five goals in 92 appearances in all competitions. He has had a mere four outings in this campaign.

However, ex-England international Kevin Phillips reckons a switch to the nine-in-a-row champions would be the perfect kick-start for Ibe after four years in the wilderness after failing to live up to his early promise on Merseyside.

The much-travelled striker, who played for Watford, Sunderland, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Brom and Leicester City among others, told Football Insider: “Jordan has frustrated people. He has a load of talent but it has not quite worked out.

“He might go to Celtic, play week in, week out and be winning football matches.

“It is amazing when you play for a side that is winning games you do not get as many injuries or pick up as many strains because you want to play every week.

“That could be a great move for him.

“Go and resurrect his career and show everyone what a top player he is.”

Last week, during a question and answer session on Twitter, Ibe admitted he had “no regrets” about his time at Bournemouth and added: “Just need to apply myself and work myself hard.”

Neil Lennon may be light on the flanks as he begins preparations for the club’s tilt at 10 in a row. He allowed Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan to leave for Preston and Inter Miami respectively during the January transfer window while Australian international Daniel Arzani is heading back to Manchester City after his two-year loan stay that was jinxed by injury.

He also has £2million Marian Shved waiting in the wings to show what he can contribute after just a couple of cameo appearances during the season.

Lennon’s No.2 John Kennedy admitted yesterday the club only need “two or three” additions to the present squad to be successful in the new campaign.
