Familiar demons

358

In any other season, the three points would have been secured by David Turnbull’s exquisite free-kick on 82 minutes, but the fragility around everything Celtic at the moment convinced no one the game was over.

A Hibs free-kick in added time saw three Celtic players get in each other’s way on the goal line, leaving three unattended attackers ready to pounce around the six yard line.  Another free kick conceded in a dangerous area, another example of defensive disorganisation and another tale of woe as Hibs scored their first goal and collected their only point in four games.

With Ryan Christie unavailable, David Turnbull moved to the right, allowing Tom Rogic a rare start in the advanced point of the diamond.  This may have worked on paper but on the field, it only demonstrated what a valuable asset Turnbull has become in the middle of the park.  15 minutes after moving into his accustomed 10 position, Turnbull won and converted a free kick that should have been enough against a Hibs team low on confidence.

Instead, the demons that haunted Celtic for most of the season returned.  Diego Laxalt conceded the free-kick, Turnbull was beaten to the header, Conor Hazard flapped at the second ball before Shane Duffy and Callum McGregor simultaneously attempted to clear, only managing to usher the ball in the direction of Nisbet.

After the game, I realised I felt worse after we equalised in added time against Hibs in November than on losing a late goal last night.  The points dropped in November felt significant, I cannot say the same about last night’s.

    …………..

I think Motherwell beat Celtic 3-2 on more than one occasion during the 1970’s.

At Celtic park and at Fir Park . I was at a Scottish Cup game at Fir Park and Celtic and Big Shuggy Edvaldson were superb in the 1st half, and The Celts were 2-0 up at half time…Game over…or so we thought…

Motherwell came out in the 2nd half and tore us to shreds…and winning 3-2, with the help of Willie Pettigrew and his sidekick Bobby Graham.

NOT a happy day for us Celts.

Boris Johnson wouldn’t countenance the death penalty being reintroduced. It’s about the only positive thing I can think of to say about him.

The one I’m thinking of it was Big Billy on the wrong end of a Willie Pettigrew led Motherwell attack…

    Similar story……same ending

Cheers SQUIRE…Ive listened to both those songs since the 1960’s.

they are STILL very potent and relative all these years later…SADLY !

  6. Dare any supporter criticise board or management.

Instead we should be remembering being founded in 1888, wtf

  7. TBF – I like her also. She is one of that generation who has made her music all her life. Not someone who want a couple of hit songs and a retirement pot.

SD – great links. Thanks for them.

  8. MUSIC…

    On a more cheery note…

As a Glesga Punter all my days, I always fancied myself not only as a Fitba player but also as a Dancer in discos and Pubs etc.

I have a brilliant VIDEO MUSIC Playlist on my SMART TV.

I just go on Youtube and play Music Videos and Ive came across BRILLIANT Music Videos that not only show the original videos for certain songs, but there is a CHANEL Called ” KM Chanell”…and on that you can listen to songs from way back and Today etc…with GREAT Dance Videos which show youngsters and some older folk Dancing to a particular song(s) from all over the World.

For example…HADDAWAY, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS, MICHAEL JACKSON, ELVIS, CORNERSHOP, LAID BACK, THE ARCHIES etc etc…which have all been ” Redone” into dance versions….Superb stuff…and some of those dancing Babes are very pleasing on the eye !

    LOL.

I think positive constructive criticism is always best, but this is a blog so criticise in the way you feel most comfortable with! 😊 Unfortunately there is PLENTY of topics that are fair game for Celtic at the moment. 🙄 🤨 😊

I would also say that whatever narrative Paul67 puts up on his leader, the real Agenda is set by those who post, so keep on posting (and/or scrolling on by) , as you see fit! 😊

You make Boris sound principled there. He’s an opportunist who’ll happily blow with the wind of public opinion.

The game we are both referring to was January 11 1975 at Celtic Park. Motherwell won 3-2 with goals from Pettigrew (2) and Graham, with Deans and Hood for Celtic. Just watched the clip on Utube and it seems that both Billy and Roddy were both playing. Doubt if that happened too often.

  14. MAGMA 67 @ 8:12 AM,

Well I’m afraid that’s not the way it works is it?

A direct quote from Dermot Desmond in a quality news outlet versus social media hearsay.

We need to go with the official quote don’t we?

And the hearsay was proven wrong so many times…

“Brendan Rodgers did a moonlight flit”

    – lies, BR left under a negotiated settlement thrashed out between Celtic and Leicester City as the 9 million settlement that Celtic tried to keep quiet proved

“Brendan Rodgers tried to take all the backroom staff with him, including John Kennedy”

    – lies, John Kennedy didn’t know BR was going, in fact he is on record as saying BR wasn’t going. Also the settlement had a figure for each Celtic employee who went to the Foxes, each person was negotiated.

“Leicester City would have waited until the summer”

    – lies, Leicester City sackef their manager as they were in free fall, they wanted someone in straight away to arrest the drop off. Leicester City approached Celtic and the business was concluded above board. BR at a Leicester City press conference denied the Foxes would wait, said they wanted someone immediately, he stared Peter Lawwell can verify that.

All in all you are blackening a persons name from social media hearsay when there is hard evidence to suggest all negotiations and transactions were above board.

Lots more examples… so little time…

    Hail Hail

From what I’ve read about him by people who know him it would be about the only thing he would not compromise on.

    …..

The Scottish Cup defeat at Fir Park also happened….sadly.

Big Shuggy was Man of the Match when half time came…I dont know what happened in the Celtic dressing room at half time…but what a turnaround.

Stop Press. Peter Lawwell announces that he is going to pardon himself a la Trump, even though he still maintains that he has done nothing wrong.

I don’t know anything about the young lad Scott Robertson who has been recalled but what a glowing reference Gillingham boss Steve Evans gave him.

The type of lad who I hope can succeed with us.

  20. Would Scott Robertson get a game with us after the self-isolating ends?

Would be a shame for his development to resort to sitting on a bench.

Ronny Deila slated the Celtic squad’s fitness levels when he became our manager much to the annoyance of Neil Lennon we seem to have returned to those days.Brendan Rodgers brought with him a far more professional approach to player’s fitness and sport science…wonder how many supporters would take him back with a newly appointed CEO…I would.
