Fan zones and flags

230

As we predicted months ago, Glasgow will be open for the Euros, the Scottish government yesterday went to the extent of confirming 6,000 spectators could attend the Glasgow Green Fan Zone – with testing optional.

It was made clear to me by sources inside Holyrood that the Westminster Government would ensure games would go ahead at Wembley and there was no way the Scottish Government would have a flag waving exercise in London without the same exhibition of a different nation in Glasgow.

All of the key indicators are pointing in the wrong direction and international holidaymakers face renewed restrictions, but flags, and all that.  No wonder the hospitality industry is in uproar.

  1. Excuse me, but I thought I was on the website where the host thought fans should have been back inside stadiums months ago?

He seems very confused at times this guy …

  2. A point of note.

SKY reported at the weekend “Tottenham end talks with Conte”. Today they are reporting “Crystal Palace end talks with Espirito-Santo”. Why is the reporting of a similar situation with Eddie Howe that “Celtic miss out on…..”

Do the Media have an agenda?

You should know that ‘Cult Opponents’ adopt what’s known as The Bain Principle, named after the former Labour MP for Glasgow NE.

If The Scottish Government say you can’t get into football grounds, ‘Cult Opponents’ demand the right to do so. If SG say however you CAN go to football grounds and fanzones, then COs say that’s wrong and that you shouldn’t.

If the Scottish Govenment say ‘white’, ‘Cult Opponents’ will say ‘black’.

And for what it’s worth I think fanzones at the current time are lunacy.

If the Huns causing mayhem in town is a spreading event then so is a fanzone even if or maybe even more so because the participants are not trying to kill each other.

  5. We are being played.

After the Euros expect increased controlling measures.

Took the words right out my mouth, apparently the big bad proddies were preventing Celtic fans from attending games when it was perfectly safe to do so.

‘’sources inside Holyrood” aka Lanarkshire Labour Mafia making petty political point.

  9. In ACTUAL Celtic news ….

Yokohama got beaten in the Emperors Cup today by a team called Honda FC.

    From Japan’s FOURTH tier.

So this is what the rest of the day online is going to be about if youi’re looking for Celtic related news.

Shame we didn’t wait to agree compensation … we might not have needed to pay any.

having been following Paul’s comments on this all season, the point I took was that he was pointing out the double standards of the Scottish government; especially for football. I didn’t get anything from it to say that he was against the fanzone ( i must say that i am against it, and believe it is reckless ). Just that he had pointed out that the SG would allow it when they believed it suited them, regardless of the science.

    Indeed.

While leaving himself open to the same charge.

He can’t bang on now about how bad it is there are going to be fanzines and 6000 at Hampden while he has been advocating all season for access to football grounds.

    Especially because Peter said so.

I think the board’s desire to have fans at CP was motivated by financial rather than political considerations.

And I think it’s reasonable to assume that 1. fans zones do create an unnecessary risk 2. if fans weren’t being allowed into stadiums in England fans zones wouldn’t be allowed in Scotland and 3. if it was club sides, rather than national sides involved there would be no fan zone.

Political considerations are overruling public health considerations.

  16. The SNPcult will always facilitate Scotland The Brand regardless of consequences. Nationalists always back the CAUSE over PEOPLE.

The Tartan Army(i.e. the SNPcult at play) was always going to be indulged if Scotland reached their first competition for 20 odd years. Let them into the stadium and set up a 6000 Fan Zone – again CAUSE over PEOPLE.

The fact that Hampden was smack-dab in the middle of G42, the worst infected area in Scotland was ignored – the CAUSE always comes before PEOPLE.

    SNP Mantra:

HEALTH? – Let’s keep waving the Flag.

EDUCATION? – Let’s keep waving the Flag.

ECONOMY – Let’s keep waving the Flag.

Well that’s more a reflection of your mindset than anything else.

You have to engage with the argument itself, in isolation. Disregard who is making the argument, and disregard what other arguments they might have made in the past.

Understand your point: I thought you were typically more bullish and committed than as carelessly apathetic as you claim. Another way to handle silly wee publishing errors is to say “Our bad, we’ll fix that one up easy”

I just can’t remember you coming onto Paul’s place of late with anything balanced, complimentary or optimistic ; and the incessant morbidity and scorn on here (not exclusively from you btw) is viral like and – even tho I can be critical – I sure don’t want to catch a fatal dose.

Keep an open mind is a good motto for me – I hope we can all smile together in support of our beloved Celtic very soon. Even if one-tactic muscat gets a support gig.

  28. Funny how I never really thought about the name Union Jack until good old JBH started on about keeping the Union Jack flying. So I asked my wife, the bright one in the family, why it was called the Union Jack? She didn’t know so I, as you do, googled it. I wonder does the JBHcult know whu it was aptly named? See below (my usual cut and paste job).

The name ‘Union’ first appeared in 1625. There are various theories as to how it became known as the ‘Union Jack’. The most plausible one is that when a small flag was mounted on the front of a warship (and a selected number of other ships) it was called ‘the Jack’.

Now, is that not a great reminder of the symbolism of the JBHcult?

And so you call me a terrorist

While you look down your gun

When I think of all the deeds that you have done,

    You have plundered many nations

    Divided many lands

    You have terrorized their people

You ruled with an iron hand.

And you brought this reign of terror to my land.
