As we predicted months ago, Glasgow will be open for the Euros, the Scottish government yesterday went to the extent of confirming 6,000 spectators could attend the Glasgow Green Fan Zone – with testing optional.
It was made clear to me by sources inside Holyrood that the Westminster Government would ensure games would go ahead at Wembley and there was no way the Scottish Government would have a flag waving exercise in London without the same exhibition of a different nation in Glasgow.
All of the key indicators are pointing in the wrong direction and international holidaymakers face renewed restrictions, but flags, and all that. No wonder the hospitality industry is in uproar.

Is it party politicking to call out the Scottish Government for allowing a facoured fan group to gather but no others to do so?
The London situation is different because they do allow fan attendance at live events already; they are continuing a more liberal approach of not banning everything (and yes the British Govt. has done so much wrong during this pandemic) but the later allowance of small crowds has not proved to be one of these major faux pas. The Tartan Army should not be traelling there in numbers and should be called out forcibly by everyone, including the Scottish Government.
It is a legitimate position to feel that , with Covid still threatening a comeback, we should restrict heavily. The Engish Authority can be guilty of Covid-endangerment under that charge but not be accused of hypocrisy.
The charge of hypocrisy only falls on the political group that banned every small gathering but then allows crowds of 3k plus 3k more for a favoured group.

I would give Lions Roar a bye on this. He is a commited Yes Supporter but he is prepared to call out the SNP Government and has nothing to prove or disprove on that count.

More seriously 150,000 lost lives in the UK due to inadequate preparation and action in dealing with a global pandemic including the Scottish Govt failing, the fan zones in comparison to the sacrifices that so many have endured are completely unjustifiable, the UK is having increasing numbers of infections due to variants
I’m opposed to the fan zones in a global pandemic with the numbers of covid infections rising, everything else IMO is politicking
