Having strained a hamstring against St Johnstone on Saturday, it is not credible to expect Giorgos Giakoumakis to play any part in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final. We have surely learned from recent experiences that strained hamstrings require proper rest, to prevent a more serious injury.
Kyogo’s return to action was a joy but too brief for him to be considered as starter anytime soon. He will be fit to torment defenders in small doses only for a while. That leaves us without our MVP in recent months and our MVP from the first half of the season in a hugely important cup tie.
There are reasons not to be too concerned. Celtic have scored nine from eight different players since the last goal they conceded, Matt O’Riley is the only one to have broken the sequence by contributing more than once. This team contribute goals from all over the park. Maybe Hampden will see Greg Taylor get in on the act!
The post-split fixtures are likely to see us go to Ross County and Dundee United, with Newco, Hearts and Motherwell at home. Hopefully the game at County’s tiny Dingwall stadium is not material to the title race. The SPFL have known the scenario for two days now, so let’s hope the fixtures come out this afternoon. When you live in a Scottish bubble it is easy to forget many people have difficult and expensive travel arrangements to book just to see their team play football. At the very least they deserve as much notice as possible.

THE LONG WAIT IS OVER on 11TH APRIL 2022 2:57 PM
The `New Firm` would be logical but calling them The Old Firm has a delicious irony.
Anyway, it will either catch on or not. I will certainly use it :-)))
As the constituent parts of the top six were known by tea-time on Satruday, is there any GOOD reason why the fixtures have not yet been released?

one deliciously cruel irony of them promoting it as a term , their supporters are going buck mental about it.
they were ok with using it in general language terms and around the fixture as a way of giving the continuity myth a sign-post. and their fan media used it all the time.
after last weekend it is so toxic even for them.
the daft wee blue flags.
the archways
their won supporters getting selfies with ange and daizen.
whats a bear to do,
accpet they went bust and started a new club would be the answer.
wah wah wah
as much as “the old firm” usage was a horrendous own goal, I do wonder if anyone in the PLC would be having a word saying you cant do that without our permission, and we say no nay never nomore
Here’s hoping the real hun meltdown begins next Sunday…they deserve it.
You’ve got to wonder what the issue is with publishing the post split fixtures
The Glasgow Derby Celtic V the Old Firm…
Another bonus of calling them the Old Firm is that the media use the “old firm fans cause trouble” headline we all know who they mean..(we did anyway)

For Sunday’s match, the Celtic support has been denied the opportunity to rally behind the team with a tifo. We therefore encourage all fans to play their part by bringing the Irish tricolour to the match.
On Easter Sunday, we go to war under the flag of Ireland.

I took one of the hampden pics, 85 cup final. i got a wee shiver there watching this.
easter sunday an awe.

Hot Smoked – the speculation was they were waiting on yesterday’s game to see if they have to make adjustments to avoid us winning title against them. On that basis it should have been announced today.
YORKBHOY on 11TH APRIL 2022 3:20 PM
That`s a really good point .
Can you imagine how it would be if many thousands of Celit fans started using the term in reference to them alone? Every negative comment re The Old Firm would be seen, albeit subliminally in many cases, as a negative report on THEM :-))))
Trying to fix getting us to tyncastle likely , and programming madden , Walsh , Beaton, Robertson .
DENIABHOY on 11TH APRIL 2022 3:27 PM
Thanks. I thought that might be the case but , as you said, we should know by now.
THIS IS THE OLD FIRM
hahahahahha.

Sorry, the logic escapes me. If I was the *Rangers barrister standing up in court defending the breaking of the Sydney contract because of the ‘Old Firm’ label was not being used, I would be saying to the beak, “well m’lud, even Celtic supporters’ blogs use the phrase liberally day in and day out” – that it is nuanced and used as ‘so-called’ banter is superfluous……. the phrase is ‘alive & kicking’.
Celtic took ownership so it could not be used as a marketing tool by every Tom, Dick & Harry – the strategy worked, as seen in Sydney. Why then would Celtic supporters give it oxygen? Sorry, I see no logic in it.

Perhaps surprisingly but, of those three ref`s, Walsh is the one I least want to referee our games.

Page one paragraph one of the Sydney Super cup website…
Sydney will host a historic match-up between Scottish teams, Celtic and Rangers in
the Old Firm Derby
as they kick off the newly created Sydney Super Cup.

Looking at it from the legal aspect of usage of the term, I can see where you are coming from ( though I doubt very much its use by Celtic supporters would hold water in any Court) but I am not talking of its legality. I am talking of the consternation in those who have ignored the demise of Rangers and use the OF term as one of their tools in furthering the pretence. Imagine, as I say, the consternation when Celtic supporters actively use the term in reference to Sevco alone. Can you really not see the wonderful , ironic humour in that?
Just thought of what the logic may be. Up to a few days ago, if anyone referenced the ‘Old Firm’ on CQN, they were labelled a “hun” – now it seems that if you don’t mention it, you will be labelled a “hun”….you couldn’t make it up🤐🙃
or if you dont mention it, and get annoyed that the piss take from celtic supporters in using it , well maybe its because …………….
JHB
You just did ! :-)))

That goes to show that the reasons put forward to withdraw were spurious. The “most successful club in the world” line was also used in the marketing blurb.
Imagine if Celtic had withdrawn as was the view of some – when asked why, would the club have said ” because the Green Brigade told us to”

Yes I did – but surely with justification…..poetic licence????
I don`t see that `poetic licence` covers something that didn`t even remotely happen but I think, for the sake of sanity on the blog, I will try to refrain from making any more comment on the matter…….other than the fact that i find calling them The Old Firm pretty darn funny :-))))
Cheerio for now.

I’m confused.
Are we playing ourselves..?
;-)
So we play Ross County away on the 24th?
THE LONG WAIT IS OVER
Those are ‘thems, the old firms’ games.
SO if VAR is voted in for next season, the cost of it will be paid for by the clubs and, as things stand, we foot the largest bit of the bill:
“According to figures from the BBC, the amount each club will need to contribute will depend on their final league position this season.
The team that tops the table this season will be issued with biggest bill – paying 16.29 per cent of the total cost.
Second place will be required to fork out 11.67 per cent of the costs.
The pay scale drops as you travel down the league table with this seasons 12th place club paying much less than half than the champions – contributing 5.63 per cent of the total costs.
As the league stands, Celtic will be the team paying out the most as they remain six points afloat at the top of the Scottish Premiership.”

Thanks for posting the schedule.
I’m surprised at it. If we beat Riss County and the Old Firm lose at Motherwell, they will be 9 points behind. With our goal difference advantage, that would effectively make our game versus the scruffy hillbillies the league decider.
I thought the SPFL did everything in their power to prevent that?
